Many thanks for some local to me knowledge that I was ignorant of. I will go for a ramble to see some of this amazing history for myself, driving down from Heanor towards Langley mill I always thought there was some litter filled forgotten railway route below the road close to the bus garage.
Brilliant stuff!! Thanks for doing this most local of lines to where I grew up. At the time I didn't know much about the local railway history. I've only just got my head around the complexity of the area. Parallel lines, colliery lines... All long gone. Big thanks to Phil/John/Dave.
I remember the stone pillar’s being intact for years at the Hammersmith junction Walk round there regularly and the Ripley greenway great video as always
Thanks for doing the video really enoyed it. The railway station house at Heanor still exists. It has been converted into a bungalow behind the platforms that you said were in field.
Wow! I never realised how extensive the railway was around there but as you said in your video they started closing it a long time ago. Was a surprise to find this video recommend by RUclips you must be doing something right keep at it! 👍
Another top quality video, thank you 🙏 any plans to look at colliery lines in South Yorks? Rossington, Maltby etc? Most are easily accessible, look forward to the next one, cheers,
Another great video pretty local to me did cover a same bit of the line in a video I made back in 2007 the bit on the footpath aside Mansfield roat at that time there were still some of the Midland railway boundary markers (iron posts with oval tops and the initials Mr on them there's still one or 2 aside the end of the Cromford canal at Langley Mill) nestled in a fence which looks now to have been sadly redeveloped keep up the great vids looking forward to the next one
Missed a few things here. A huge bridge still stands in Hammersmith behind a park. Also heanor Station House is still there just behind the wall, and you can follow the track bed alot more than you seem to have. Good work tho
The Bridge in Hammersmith i think you are refering to is a farm under - bridge that you can see near the A38......pretty certain its on Private Land so we gave it a miss
Some fantastic Derbyshire railway history in that one WR, great stuff. I've always wondered why these wonderful cuttings are filled in, and they even have the audacity to cover up the platforms!!!! Is Hammersmith Station easily accessible, I'd like to get down there for a ferret around in the Autumn, it looks fascinating.
There's a footpath that goes through Hammersmith Station. I believe you can access it from Butterley end around the Reservoir, but we parked up under the a38 bridge and its a 2 min walk to the platforms.
@@WobblyRunner The abutments were incredibly impressive, it appears that someone is cleaning them too which is nice, I love it when people preserve history like that, especially if it's anything to do with railways.
i live right next to ripley greenway the old rail way and i never go down there, used to play down there as a kid, my favourite memory was this old guy who used to go down there with his wheel barrow and dig out coal from a trench that ran along the line of old pit road i think it was called, oh and marmite sandwiches in the grave yard lol
Brilliant.. I live Ripley and that was so interesting...
Cheers Simon 👍
Nice to see some local history

Haha.
Yes. Quite complex around there isn't it. I have to admit to feeling quite overwhelmed when looking especially around the Butterley works

Walk round there regularly and the Ripley greenway great video as always
Cheers Andrew 👍🙂
Great video. Being a local lad the multitude of lines coming out of Ripley has always interested me.
Cheers Andrew. It's a fascinating area. Lovely area you've got there too 👍🙂
Top vid LADS fighting against the summer green stuff 👍

I've got some south yorks stuff in the pipeline. Waiting for autumn for the vegetation to start to die down now. Its getting tough. 👍

Yes, the Heanor station house is just visible on the video as you cross the road to the park. It's usually overlooked but it's on the map you showed.

👍 cheers. You're right. Some cuttings filled, some not. I'm glad they didn't fill the one in at Ripley and built houses on it.
