    In the late 1960's two pool players at the Bellflower Place near Los Angeles, one from Texas and and another from Alaska were bragging which state was richer. The guy from Texas said "Texas has more oil" then the guy from Alaska said "We have more gold". The guy from Texas said, "Take your gold and build a fence around Texas and we'll buy it!". It's not surprising that Texans are willing to throw their money into the pot.

    I hate that all in for the $600. You have to think your up against at least A/K minimum. Maybe check and try and get a free turn or check fold. You have little else except a gutter to 7.

    • @PokerJeezus
      @PokerJeezus  Год назад

      The pot size is $1,670 and I have $645 remaining. The SB and BB shoved preflop, the straddle and UTG+1 have both checked to me when I shove, with a few players behind me left to act.
      Give my remaining stack size compared to the pot size, I think it's a spot I need to just go with.
      I just ran the equities against the hand that wound up calling me (player who checked UTG+1) and he was around 53% equity, I had 39% and we had 8% to tie. So I'm actually not doing bad when you factor in the pot is more than 2.5 times my stack size when I shove

      In his defense, he already had restraddled to $320 so had half his chips in the pot anyway. He didn't look at his hand though, he just wanted to gamble and put the other half in blind. He was getting a good price given the size of the pot, although he wound up getting dealt a pretty crummy hand in that spot, at least it was coordinated somewhat.

    Complains about playing in a bad game with nits and cold calls a straddle on the button first hand with KK 😂

    • @PokerJeezus
      @PokerJeezus  Год назад

      Well, I'm a nit too, I don't want to be in a game with a bunch of me! Also, I usually try to utilize a "pulling" strategy. Rather than pushing players out preflop, bloating pots and trying to get it headsup or three-handed with a positional advantage, I try to keep pot sizes manageable and draw more players in.
      My reasoning is this:
      1. Maniacs and strong pros will have a hard time running bluffs when up against 5+ opponents in PLO
      2. Weaker players are pulled into the pot and see the flop. These are the people you will make your money off of long-term, so I want them in the pot for the times I hit, because they're the ones paying off with 8-high flushes, top and bottom pair, idiot ends of the straight draw, etc.
      Now in this particular episode at the crazy table it didn't really matter what I did, since they were willing to call 200-600 preflop 5-6 ways, so you just had to hit flops AND hold because these guys had no fold buttons.
      And don't get me wrong, I know my particular approach isn't the most profitable one, it's just the one I've found works for me. Back when I played in Tampa there was a pro who I believe is the best in the room and he crushed with a "pushing" strategy preflop, but he also had much deeper pockets than I do and other forms of income coming in as well (rental properties, etc) so he could afford to increase the variance a bit
