what i love about the 85-93 cars is just how dirty, beatup and missing parts by the time the race ends. like they are not racing just fighting, now days the nascars can barely hit each other and you barely see cars driving without hoods or other panels.
Pretty F'N Nuts Dale trades paint with Alan for the lead and spins out but avoids getting lapped or at least so I think but he comes back to win the thing later. 87 was Dale at his most dominate and when he truly became a force when he won back to back titles for the first time
**POINTS STANDINGS and WINS before the 1987 RICHMOND 400 (3 of 29):** #3 Dale Earnhardt Sr (345pts with 1 win, GM) #9 Bill Elliott (345pts with 1 win, Ford) #15 Ricky Rudd (-32, Ford) #75 Neil Bonnet (-43, GM) #17 Darrell Waltrip (-52, GM) #90 Ken Schrader (-55, Ford) #43 Richard Petty (-70, GM) #26 Morgan Shepherd (-71, GM) #22 Bobby Allison (-85, GM) The best rookie of 1986, Alan Kulwicki (Ford #7 in 19th), barely got 2 top20 results to start the year while Geoff Bodine (GM #25 in 20th) ran out of fuel in the Daytona 500, then had to retire early for a mechanical problem. Rusty Wallace (GM #27 in 22nd) retired very early in the Daytona 500, then almost got a top5 for the next race. Meanwhile, Tim Richmond had to skip the start of the season for “pneumonia” (it was AIDS) Drivers listed are the season's current top8, last season's top8 plus the rookie of the year before and whatever race winner that doesn't fit any of those 2 descriptions. Yes, I’m using the unsponsored names of the races. In Richmond's case, the earlier race is the Richmond 400 while the later one is the Capital City 400.
A great display of racing (almost 120 laps of racing without an incident from the start)... immediately followed by 2 heinous acts by pro drivers · ACT #1 = Despite the race being quite young and having just restarted, Dale Earnhardt Sr bodychecked the shit out of Harry Gant, who lost control of his car in the dirtier half of the racetrack · ACT #2 = Shortly after the following restart, Morgan Shepherd wedged himself on the inside of Bobby Allison, who responded by punting him on the exit of the corner. This caused a tremendous pile-up that damaged many cars. None of the 2 absolute assholes were penalized for their actions somehow!
Loved the old Fairgrounds track!
Same here. You know what I *also* love? Everything on your channel lol. Great stuff! Thank you for posting it!
These old Richmond races are the epitome of "if you dont move him, someone is going to move you!"
This is the only race i got to go and see live here. A day i will never forget. Me and my papaw had a great time
Bless you for uploading this specific race.

Real body panels vs fiberglass stuff, that's what makes all the difference

Haha the year Elliot hated him with a vengeance 😂😂😂😂
back when the cars looked like something you could walk into a dealership and buy
They were racecars inside like the current ones BUT then you had to attach real body panels to the cage, quite interesting stuff
this was the first full race I watched that Dale won thanks for uploading
The Greatest Of All Time!
00:40 working on 12 hours sleep..sounds like hell ken lol
You had to be a special kind of person to work for Alan Kulwicki
Yea, I'm glad he came back and said 12 hours over the whole week, I was about to say that sounds great!
Lake Speed helping to call the race.
From 2nd in the 1986 Daytona 500 to not having a car basically 12 months later, OOOF
I was at the fall that year Dale won that race too! Have a great picture I took of him going down the back stretch hanging on the wall.
Forgot what a good job TBS did covering races.
old school bangin on a bullring.

Was a great track till they tore up the old
I'll never understand why the stands were a mile away from the racing surface though 😂
