This was the first race I remember going to and staying the whole time. My dad took me to Charlotte at 6 years old and we only made it like 80 laps before I just couldn't handle it. Then a year or two later I went to Rockingham and made it almost to the end but we left a little early. This one always sticks in my mind because I was a big Mark Martin fan at the time. So much fun.
Great to see Kulwicki finally win the halfway bonus money. I’ve been watching the season race by race in my free time. He’s been trying to win it for a few races so far in the season. Love these little storylines
2:39:47. Geoff Bodine, fellow driver (already out of the race) and a former volunteer fireman, comes rushing in with a fire extinguisher to help put out the fire in Kyle Petty's Pontiac.
I used to love the small intros with all the leading drivers before the races, where they would act out little scenes, it was so funny. Do they not do that as much anymore?
I was so happy when Nascar went to the 1 finger down restarts. DW cost Sterlin Marlin a possible W. DW was Laps down and racing the 2nd place car on a restart. He would cry if someone did that to him. From 10 to go only lead lap cars up front.
Great post! This race is still hard to watch for me, because shortly after the checkered flag fell, I got the call that a good childhood friend of mine had passed away from brain cancer.

@@MrChristopherHaas My thought as well. Always thought Richmond & Martinsville were annually the best races, but Richmond has tapered off last several years.

Boy I'll tell ya what, the first go-round back in 92, if you were (still am & always will be) a Petty Fan, this race was damn hard to watch 🤬 After Richard & Kyle's first 25 laps, I just left the room disgusted, so never saw the last 90% of this race till now! Thanks for giving me the (now) golden opportunity to finally watch it. 💪🤠👉 YOU!! Also wanna give a big Thank You to Ol' Geoff Bodine for do'in what he done concerning the Kyle Petty 42 car. 💪😉👍
I guess it's fitting that Mark MARTIN got a few wins at MARTINSVILLE he had no business winning, this one, and in 2000 come to mind, this one a bunch of leaders fell out, and in 2000 he used pit strategy to steal a win

The old commercials are just as enjoyable as the race!
As an Aussie I've never seen most of those commercials before.
I'd completely forgotten about Big A.
Yeah, the first couple of times anyway, after that they were just as infuriating as they are today 😂

nice, didn't see your comment before I got to that point
This winner won his first race in this iconic ride and sponsor which he would drive for the next eight years.
His last win with the Valvoline colors also came at Martinsville
@@AW-dq2oo Yeah, Max Life in which the car was red and black. His last win in the blue and white Valvoline colors was at Dover in the fall.
Nice brain teaser! Nice job not giving away the winner's name 💪
Due to scheduling conflicts w/ the NFL draft, this race wasn't carried live. This is the last NASCAR race to air on tape delay
I am 3 min in and couldn’t help but think, This was 30 years ago and DW had been racing for 22 years already
I really really love watching these old Nascar races a whole whole lot and I still watch Nascar on my TV
At 14:47, that trophy truck jumping is actually Jimmie Johnson!

Maybe that was payback for something Sterlin had done to DW early in the year?

I believe this is the last time a NASCAR race was intentionally put on tape delay.
I never understood why. Looks like the best action track on circuit, then as now, to me.
@@MrChristopherHaas My thought as well. Always thought Richmond & Martinsville were annually the best races, but Richmond has tapered off last several years.
@@MrChristopherHaas Because the NFL Draft took priority and ESPN2 didn't exist as an alternative until the next year.

Dave Mader III almost won an ARCA race sometime earlier this year if I'm not mistaken.

Back in the day anytime the fords won they changed the rules. The Frances owned GM stock.
Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday. Go blue oval!!
yeah then Jeff Gordon came along and was beating everyone so they couldn't make any changes because he ran a Chevy
They cut the spoiler and front air dam on the Chevy Monte Carlo trying to slow Jeff Gordon down but that still didn't stop him.

They also spelled Trickle wrong

Nascar has always been doing everything they can to slow the Fords down so the gm boys could have a chance. Its a bad look for gm and nascar.
