I had one of these when I was in college in the 80's. I love this thing, but unfortunately it was stolen. I miss EQ's, you don't even have the option of a tape loop any more to add one on most receievers. Apparently they design receivers now where they pick and create a preset for how the sound should be. It's all crap. I had a top of the line high powered JVC receiver in the late 80's that weighed as much as a Subaru. It had the best dynamic power I have heard. After that I had my share of Pioneer Elite, Onkyo and Harmon Kardon and they are all toys compared to that JVC. The only thing better on the newer receivers is that they had the up to date Dolby surround processing which is important for the home theater aspect. If I was just using it for music, I would return to that old JVC in a heartbeat. Good luck with your EQ!
I've had this one for a few years now too, but even though it has been sitting turned off hooked up in a room for quite some time, now it suddenly stopped working. As in, it doesn't turn on anymore. When I press the Power-button, the LED of the Source-button flashes once really quickly, but it dies out as if there's no power. - It's simply connected, still, but it seems like it died or something disconnected or something. And that for as little use and careful handling as it has gotten. - Even the previous owner(s) claimed they didn't really use it, because they were the type that don't even know what an Equalizer is really for. - I do have to say that this thing was kinda glitchy with its touch-panel already, but I write that off to being the nature of the technology. - I DON'T understand how it just stops working like that. - It has been in a rather balanced room, in terms of temperature and humidity, and all the other Technics stuff (though, probably a bit newer and better) is still working. - Does anyone have any glue?
These units are over 30 years old now. It probably could be fixed, but It would have to be looked over. I have two of them. In both of them there are big capacitors that store backup power for the memory if the power goes out. They are leaking some brown fuzzy stuff out of the bottom and don't charge anymore. Other than that, they still work normally.
