I 3D printed my first electronics enclosure with PCBWay www.pcbway.com/setinvite.aspx.... I designed it first with FreeCAD and checked the dimension and clearances with KiCAD integration. In this video, I outline the detailed steps to make features such as connector slots, ventilation holes, screw lugs, text, etc.

It was very helpful that did not gloss over the basics, explained your mistakes and how to correct them, and also that you showed the whole process from beginning to end.
I will watch this more than once!

I got a few projects that dying for a case and I have a 3d printer.... so theres no excuse now with such a good tutorial. Its where I got stuck with CAD, the parametric design, didnt know how or where so this is what I needed thank you.

Tip for others, you don't *have* to use a spreadsheet as the 'formula starting point'. An alternative method is making a master sketch (a sketch that has the dimensions you want to use elsewhere), when specifying a constraint in your sketch you can name it. Then using the value of that constraint works very similarly where you use click the formula icon and type the name of the sketch followed by a period (.) and the values show up.
I've been using that somewhat frequently as under windows for whatever reason working with spreadsheets in FreeCAD is really really slow (not the case under Linux/OS X).

Thank you for great small tips and tricks for multi step model footprint assignment in kicad . This tip will help me to making connector slots by using Boolean operation. 🤞🥳 .

Very nice !!! Love the rigorous yet pleasant and easy to follow way. Having gone the hard way of ‘trying out stuff until it worked’ i particularly appreciate the smart bits, such as using transparency, the kicadstepup plugin (as buggy as it still might be), adding several models to footprints, etc.

I really appreciate the details of working with the different CAD packages. Also, I see a lot of videos with 3D printers sitting in the same (small) space as people's workbenches. If you haven't already, please research the impact of 3D printers on air quality; they throw off a lot of fine particulate and VOCs as well as other bad gasses depending on the filament material.

hey sayanee I have been working with your tutorial for quite some time and no matter what I do to import the kicad file oak into freecad it gives me a massive amount of errors. I went as far to adjust all the permissions to make all the models accessible and set up samba share and still it tells me models are missing. I made kicad/3dmodels completely accessible but still I keep getting errors.I also tried to open it using kicadstepup but no luck. i do have a freecad file of the complete oak project but i wanted to import everything myself. Can you provide any advice on how to import the model from kicad into freecad board plus parts all in one. Thanks.

I believe that the process I am referring to was completed over a year ago, which means there may be some compatibility issues with the current versions of FreeCAD, KiCAD, and their respective add-ons.
If you are interested in learning how to import from KiCAD to FreeCAD, I recommend starting with a basic project using the most recent versions of both programs and attempting the import from there.
I hope this is useful to you and wish you the best of luck!
