    Definitely appreciate the honest reviews on this channel, so many reviewers just copy what everyone else says. Without mentioning the backstory, or the crunch the devs went through.

    “Perhaps I treated you too harshly” has never rung truer and so deep for me as it did while watching this. I saw the effort put into those two games, but I was too blinded by those around me to actually recognize them for genuine attempts that they were at keeping the franchise alive.
    I wouldnt mind picking up copy and a board next time I have an opportunity.

    I love what you said about how easy it is to be negative on a game if you don't care about the people behind it. It's not just games, I saw and still see it happen for TV programmes, films, et cetera. People in general, including me if I'm having a very bad day, feel this desire to shit on the staff for doing something that doesn't agree with them. I've since labeled these people as pretentious, always feeling the motivation to either give them a taste of their own medicine, knowing they'll likely react with no self-awareness of themselves, or rhetorically give them a challenge, saying I want to see you try, lol.
    Apologies if I sounded vitriol. It's just that, overtime, I've become intolerant of negative social media influenced individuals, to the point that even playing or watching the worst pieces of media eventually provided more healthy engagement. If it isn't for bright spots like yours and some others' content, and some friends I made through online discussions, I would have taken Dad's advice and dropped social media forever.
    Excellent video as always. It has me interested in trying out this duology someday. 💫🌟✨💜

    Considering this was done by a Midway offshoot like Def Jam Icon, I think they had some sort of curse.
    Ride was this game that few people liked, more people hated and even more people (myself included, peripherical controllers aren't my cup of tea) just flat out didn't care about it. I do remember plenty of people having a miserable time with the controller, most oftenly not even getting it to work well.
    I think those loading screen tips were more of them just sort of playing with the reception for Ride. People got pissed at the previous game, after all.

    • @RedBerylFTW
      @RedBerylFTW  6 месяцев назад

      I can't speak to others' experiences with the controller, but I can confirm that the loading screen tips are the same kind of inspirational in both games.

    Having used multiple of the boards, i think you may have gotten an outlier board. Problem with the board also having been rushed is their quality and responsiveness varied pretty widely. If you got the board more recently it would make sense that only the better working and/or repaired/upgraded boards would be out there and most of the worse boards would have been tossed at this point.

    Really good review. I like your perspective about the game devs and the abysmal circumstances they were under. Many don’t take that into consideration. As one who wasn’t into peripheral controllers(let’s just say I was majorly disappointed by the Wii and wanted a GameCube 2.0 lol), I just kinda slept on these despite being a major fan of the Tony Hawk series. The graphics and game play footage here were pretty good. Reminds me of what the original Tony Hawk series was supposed to be with the downhill courses. Which could have been a cool thing for Robomodo to do to make it their own. If they didn’t use the peripheral controls, I probably would have been pretty into it. That’s just me being nit picky tho lol.

  • @elloofficer
    @elloofficer 6 месяцев назад +2

    Glad to hear your takes on both of these games, majority of the people in the community (including myself) haven't actually touched them due to two reasons: 1. You need a peripheral to play it, 2. Everyone said it wasn't worth playing. Everytime I see footage the these games I do imagine how they'd play in a THPS engine rather than their own, because some of these maps do look like they would make great downhill levels in THUGPro. I will say the bird's eye view camera angle in Ride makes the game look more difficult to navigate which is why they changed it in Shred to the standard behind the character view. But yeah I don't really have much to talk to ye about this one so I'll end this post here lol. Good video lad!

    TH games always have great soundtracks. Thug2 was my first TH game and i remember hearing deadly sinners the first time that's actually a demo version of the song. I own the 3 inches of blood CD premonition of pain i think it's called and thug2 and it isn't the same song.
    Side note how TF was destroy the orcs not used in a game??? That's the most video game song I've ever heard. Rancid the explosion bad religion the doors between that GTA VC nfsug and the ea big street games the ps2 shaped my musical taste as an adult. Idk if I would play guitar if not for those games. Hearing Slayer maiden and preist at 6 years old was genuinely life changing

    i noticed that this game's responsiveness highly depends on the platform you're playing on, if you use the ps3/wii version of the game, it works alright because it uses it's own bespoke usb dongle, but the xbox 360 version doesnt use a usb dongle and connects natively to the console wirelessly. the wireless hardware used on the ps3/wii versions seem to just be better optimized for the board specifically, i've owned both the wii and 360 versions and noticed worse responsiveness and difficult calibration on the 360

    • @RedBerylFTW
      @RedBerylFTW  2 месяца назад

      That's interesting. I think I'll keep an eye open for a board and a 360 so I can experience that firsthand. Do a follow up where I test different consoles and different board designs. See if I can find which version and board are definitive

    Excellent vid as per usual! I wonder if these games would have been received a bit better if they'd come out a few years earlier as by the time they were released, skateboarding videogame (especially Tony Hawk titles) fatigue had set in. Even with the jank, I think if they existed around the THUG era they would have blown peoples tits off the hinges. Ach I guess we'll never know.

    and i watched the square eyed jak and many others video of these two games and he and everyone else tore into them and had to use the on rails mode just to get the game playable,
    the ride board is the worst board that hardly even worked, shreds board is alot better.
