Now you are in my neck of the woods. I live in Sandpoint. Nice to do Gold Hill right now because all of the Selkirk hikes have snow still. Nice video, as always. You rock!
Hey good deal Darla! I suppose that means we’re neighbors then. We’re just down outside of Athol from you 😊 It made for a great, early season hike that’s for sure. I really appreciate the comment, and for you watching the video!
My friend and I were hiking outside Spokane today and this one came up in conversation (as well as Mineral Ridge) to add to our list. I come home and see today's video. Maybe at some point, I'll run into you on trail. ;-) -Lynnette
Hey hey! Coincidence? I think not 😊 That sounds good to me - we’re usually out doing something so maybe we’ll catch you on the trail too. Thanks for checking out the video, and I hope you’ll get the chance to knock this one out soon!
This is a bittersweet video for us. We missed out on a 40-acre piece of property near this trail. ☹ It was under contract when we found it. It is a bit painful to think we could have been out there by now, but we believe there is a better place waiting for us. I could have thrown a rock and hit this trail from the property we were looking at. 😊 This will be our first hike once we get out there!!! I really love watching your earlier videos. They always put me in a great mood!!! I always enjoy taking a trip down memory lane!!! We hope you have a great day!!!
Oh no!! I've been wondering when you guys would get out this way, but I suppose that makes sense as to why it hasn't happened. 40 acres up here would be GOLD. Sorry to hear that news, but I'm a firm believer that something will pop up when the time is right for it to happen. Keep trying and don't give up! Once you get to the viewpoint and see the sea of the trees you'll be glad you did it. Thanks for watching the original videos! I have fun going back to watch them every now and then (they're all good memories). A lot has changed! Hope you've had a good couple of days! Cheers!
@@DannyJSchaefer We have had a few other near misses that sting a bit, but we will NEVER give up!!! Completely agree!!! I believe God has a plan and when it is time, we will know it!!! We cannot wait to see the sea of pines!!! They are in my dreams!!!
Hey thanks Len! Glad to hear you’re finally back out on the trails, and are healed up! Thanks for watching the video, and happy trails as well. Looking forward to your next video!
@@DannyJSchaefer I am sure you have a forest service or Metzker map so get off the main path. I helped clear many of the trails east of Pend Oreille lake, back in the early 70s. the Minerva peak mine area ,packsaddle lookout, granite creek areas etc. In most of the areas you simply pick a valley and head UP. its been 50 years as unbelievable as it seems but time flies. make your memories today. its hard for me now at 66 just to walk to the mailbox. there were valleys in the Minerva and Falls creek area where you seemed to walk back into time of lush hillsides of devils club plants and cedar trees 4ft across. The streams meandering like a snakes and were filled with Dolly Varden fish almost 2ft long. I am sure man has clear cut most of it and destroyed the area but if you can make it there please send me an update. The areas up Pack River in the Selkirks had some beautiful lakes. there were several at the top of Big Lightning out of Clarks Fork. at 18yrs old I fished big lightning. you could catch over a dozen cutthroat in hours but you had to were hoodies with only a 1/2in slit to look out of because your arms would be almost black with mosquitos. life was good. young and ignorant. there were kamloops trout 4 feet long in the deep pools along the mouth. I am glad I have my memories but alas they are fading fast. stay safe, keep looking up to Jesus.
Hiking off-trail or off the main path is one of my favorite ways to hike anymore. There's too many people if you only stick to the popular trailed hikes. I will absolutely start researching some of these areas - they sound beautiful. A big reason I started filming my adventures and hikes was just to be able to look back on them. It's also great to come into contact with people like yourself. I've done a few hikes into lakes now up Pack River, and have been wanting to get into Pyramid and Ball Lakes lately. You sound like you have some amazing stories of what it used to be like around here. That fishing sounds like it was to die for. Thanks so much for commenting and for finding my channel.

I've never been to Sandpoint, but from everything I've seen, it's a truely beautiful place.
Well you should definitely come up here sometime - I bet you’d really like it. Are you getting to hike the Sawtooths this year?
I have been around this world, and it is always nice to come back and see the view north crossing the Pend Oreille lake going into Sandpoint.
This is a nice hike especially on a clear day.
Thanks so much! It made for a really great early season hike. I’d love to have you as a subscriber to the channel if interested. Thanks for watching!
now that you are in shape and have done the Scotchman, its time to do the trails around Packsaddle lookout. bring water.
Absolutely! Do you have a trail in mind that you’d recommend?
