- In this episode I show you my G&L S500, a take on a Fender Strat.
It's a very fat strat, sounding almost like a Hollowbody guitar in the neck pickup and a Fat Tele in the Bridge, with the in between sound of a strat.

I have an 06 S500 and it blows ANY Fender out of the water. G&L is the best of the best.
Thanx again Budda. Best channel IMHO.
Really good Guitar and fantastic playing ! Thanks a lot Doctor Guitar ! 🤗🤗🤗
I own 3 G&L guitars and my S500 is my favorite. All 3 sound great but there is something really special about the S500. One great thing about G&L is that they install the same pickups in their import guitars as their USA models. - you don't get that with Squier
I have an import S500 with the MFD pickups and switch, best sounding pickups ever made IMO.
tasty playing - subbed. and that mesa sounds great. about six years ago i found g&l and now the only fender products i own are a few amps. haven't tried any tributes but have had sc-2's, asats, and legacy's, and have always wanted to get my hands on a s-500. but these days i think i'm a bit more in the humbucking camp for now. it's funny how many people reviewing g&l guitars with the ptb system never touch on it - it's massively useful.
Got the G&L Tribute ASAT (Tele) with the jumbo MFD's and this thing was perfect out of the box. Their Tribute line is made in Indonesia but everything still has to pass through Fullerton before being shipped out, and they do a fantastic job with quality control and setup. Excellent bang for the buck versus the Fender brand.
I would have to play one to know
I bought Japanese G & L S500 thinking I would get a great Strat sounding guitar - and it is great, but it doesn’t sound like a Strat - and when you said it was closer to a 335 that was exactly what I had been thinking. So good to hear your demo too because I was thinking am I going crazy? - this sounds great but not what I was expecting.
The same happened to me!!!
Yeah man G&L 7 way PBS harness is the way to go with any start! I have this in my cheap Harley Benton ST-62 strat with Ironstone pickups and its a KILLER start now worth MUCH more than I invested!
BTW, I have bought my harness from eBay (The Roadhouse) but if you are good with soldering then sure you can build this for very little money!
Epic moment. 4:37 lips vibrato. Keep it up. One of my favorites channels.
Nice tone and great playing!
Excelente guitarra!!
Great video, great guitar, great playing
Thank you so much
I have the Comanche and she is great
I’m selling this one
We can really feel sometimes when you play the hendrix influence , love it
Great video
Thanks a lot. I’m thinking about selling this guitar
Great information about the G&L S500 .
thanks a lot!
Love your channel, man.
It's great to know! thanks lot
I've owned several Fender strats. None could match the sound of the MFD pups plus the PTB.
That’s a really cool guitar
Sounds more stratty than a strat to me!
Eh! Eh!
Excelente demo, parabéns!
Gostaria tanto de ver uma parecida de uma Legacy...
Também eu!!!
You have to use the bass roll off to get cleaner strat sounds.
😂👌👌
Beautiful woman tone intro
🙏🙏🙏
I finally got my hands on an early 2000’s tribute S500. It had been setup well by the previous owner, but it does not play feel or look like an import. Owned my US strats and it’s on par with any of them. Mine is the ash body I guess special edition, but it is still a thick sounding guitar. I think the brass block on the bridge is probably and equal collaborator to the mfd pickups in the tone of the guitar. The reason I say this is previous owner put one of those mini Duncan JB pickups in the bridge and it sounds better then I’ve ever heard an any strat application. I’ve always hated those pickups but in this guitar it sounds like a full humbucker.
Is that a Tribute or the American made?
It’s the American made
How do you string a G&L S500? I don't know how you treat the vibrato bar when stringing a G&L S500.
I string it normally through the holes in the back
Are these the original Volume and Tone knobs on your S-500 ? If not where did you get these please ? Thx.
Yes they are. All stock
@@BuddaGuedes Lucky you … ;-) … Mine came with cheap white plastic knobs … They are only thing I do not like about this guitar … Luckily, G&L sells the new CLF Research knobs online and these are great: chrome knobs like yours, just ordered a set … Thx
hey b'y...sounds great. very musical sounding. I just took possession of a 2006 usa S-500! love it. where do you have the PUPs set (i.e. height)? cheers
Hey! I set the pickups by ear. Usually the neck is the lowest and the bridge is the higher. The middle is in between.
I Just Had My Birthday In March, And I Got A USA Custom Made S-500, And I Am Having Issues With The Tremolo Bar Tightening Mechanism In The Bridge. I Think I May Need To Buy A New Bridge.
Contact G&L, they have excellent customer service.
Rush fan have you tried to tighten the screw in the hole? It’s a simple fix but you need the right key to do it.
Budda, if you could only choose 1. G&l or fender strat?
Kevin Griffin I've never tried a Legacy wich is closer to a strat. Between the S500 and a strat I would choose a strat, because it's more common growth nd to me . The S500 is a unique guitar but it's not as fitted to my playing. But the build quality is amazing.
Kevin Griffin sorry for bumping in on your question, but the PTB system on G&L's is amazing, I can't play anything else now.
I totally get it. It's really unique and super musical!
i thought the Legacy was a non- Magnetic Field P.U. model...
This is not a legacy. It’s the S500
Right. Sorry, man. I was on an info search and had my head fixated on a Legacy...i do have one of those S500@@BuddaGuedes
Do you teach how to play?
Yes I do. Just send me an email to budda@doctorguitar.net
How does compare to your Knaggs?
Very different beasts. My knaggs is part of me. It does everything I want in a guitar. The G&L has a great tone and a great vibrato. The electronics is super clever. But there's something abouth the playability!! It's not perfect for me. The Knaggs also feels a lot like a superior instrument.
Hope it helped
How much is it
I don’t know. It cost me 750€ used
Tuning!
Too many efffects sound like velveta.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO. TOOO OLD FOR EURO ROKKKK DUDE. ACT your age and calm down. not impressed
I didn’t understand your comment!?! What are you talking about?
WTF arw you talking about. U m a d bro
Budda dont bother.. You ae great.. Enjoy your vids. You have a New subscriber..
@@BuddaGuedes i know it's a year old comment but he was joking, you're young at heart no matter the age, act your age was a joke.
@@waldemarpierzchalski I still don't get the joke, but I'm not a tinny bit worried about it either. I just wanted to understand it!! Thanks for commenting though.
@@BuddaGuedes ok it's funny because act your age are the words that could be said by someone who always was old in their mind and funny is that saying that makes them look like they've been old inside whole of their lives just waiting to get really old to be respected for their inner age, and you playing and acting so young gaining more respect than they are ruining it for them so they releasing their inner child by going noooooo, act your aaaage. It was funny.
