Step 5.11 is proving to be a complete nightmare. We’ve been wrestling with this step for over an hour and have finally come to the understanding that the gentleman in the video is using magic 🙂
At times, it is easier to put the compression spring on with the help of a crescent wrench. You put the springs hook on to the opposite side of the wrench (where the circle is). Once the the spring is on the bar, you may need to wiggle the wrench around to get it of the spring and the system. If you need any additional help, please call our basketball assembly team. @@LifetimeProductsAssembly having the same problem for a hoop purchased in NZ. There is no way the spring is getting on the bar to start with. Will most likely return for another brand that doesn’t use magic as George mentioned above.
After hours of building it we got to the final part and this happens. There isn’t enough room to put it in the screw. My day is ruined now and I’m thinking of sending it back and getting my money back. This isn’t the first time this happened. I had to go and get different screws because they were too small and wouldn’t fit.
The Phillips bit or Phillips head screwdriver is used in section 1, section 5, and section 6. Yes, the socket adapter and socket set are used on the drill.

Same problem here. I'm returning it, as this can't be done.

Is this assembled model similar to the 90000 model?
The assembly is similar, but the backboard assembly is different, so you'll want to refer to your instruction manual for that step.
