I became fascinated with ships in the 1950s as a child. I was delighted to stay on the Queen Mary in the 1970s and again excited to sail on QE2 in the 1990s. Wonderful to see modern ship surpass the legendary ocean liners. Qm2 is wonderful a masterpiece though I have most admired the Caribbean Princess. The super sized present ships have not excited me though there current ships that express sophisticated architecture that I would like to experience.
Great video. When ships started surpassing 100k tons I felt they started to become destinations in themselves and not for getting to destinations, I think there is nothing wrong with really large ships especially if you want a family cruise but personally I prefer small ships so you can still feel that you are at sea and going somewhere. The only big ship I plan to go on is the QA2 as it is the last liner. Is your book on Kindle?
there is a ship that hasnt been built yet its call freedom ship with a plane runway on top the Freedom Ship if it Once got complete, the Freedom Ship would be 4,500 feet long, 750 feet wide, and 350 feet high (1,372 meters by 229 meters by 107 meters). The 35-story superstructure would offer an interior volume of 2.7 GT, more than enough to house everything from casinos to schoolrooms, hospitals, offices, and parks. but sadly there is no update on this ship been built any time soon.
You know how Titanic was also a monster for her time and how that negatively impacted her evacuation cause nobody had experience in evacuating 2200 people from such a large ship in orderly fashion? I'm absolutely convinced that one of those abnormally sized mega ships of today will have an accident to and that history will repeat itself and that many people will die because nobody ever actually attempted to evacuate like 5000 to 7000 people from a ship before and trust me, having enough lifeboats won't matter much if thousands of people start panicking and chaos breaks out.
@@nigelcartwright5986 That is usually my limit to, with one exception: QM2. She somehow manages to make 150.000 look reasonably good. But she's the only one exceeding 100.000 to look decent. Everything else over that looks horrible.
May be I am wrong, but in case of an emergency, accident on sea, may be heavy sea, I have my doubts about the security and to rescue in a short laps of time 7000 people in a propper order. Human beings in panic, and in a such important number, I want not to be a passanger. I avoid these monsters.
Have you cruised on any of these record breakers?
Yes. QM2 and Grand Princess.
Just QM2 - the rest are just gross
Very interesting Chris. Especially as we hear of more and more ports closing their doors to cruise ship passengers.
Thanks for watching!
I’ve been on QM2 and Grand Princess. No comparison. QM2 is by far the best.

It is wonderful to see that fascination with ships 🚢

The grand Princess was my first ship in 2010😄
Mine too!! In 2023 😊

Thanks John! The only e-book we have is the QE2: A Photographic Journey book I'm afraid.
Happy 21st birthday to Queen Mary 2 today.
You didn't answer the question How BIG can a cruise ship get?
I think Star of the Seas at 250,000gt is the answer - for now 😉
i have only cruised on older, smaller ships. these huge ships seem too large for my taste

It's amazing to think about the possibilities for future ships!

We absolutely hate these monster ships
So do I. 99,000 tonnes is my limit (even that's a big too big, but I'll tolerate it for the sake of a cruise).

Cruise ships are not as
Safe as Ocean Liners
Are. QM 2 is the last
Great ship!
I thought you'd written this as a haiku for a second
No… not likely too.
Fair enough.

These big ships ate going to destroy the industry and trump will contribute also.
Way way too big, I will not sail on those monsters. Grand Princess will do me fine.
Too big
