There is something absolutely wrong with that Q. It should take twice as long to wind down. Check the clutch and lube it. Not the friction material (brass to friction material) but the steel threads on the brass clutch
This is beyond common for mechanical Q's. Especially if this a Frontline rig, with that vintage Series Q. Ain't nothing wrong with that jawn. Clutch replacement to the current Assembly style or clean the installed clutch.
Alexanders Alarms yes I know that. Present day “Federal Signal” was called “Federal Sign and Signal” the company changed names in the 1970’s. That’s what I was referring to as being able to date the approx age of a siren.

It’s supposed to be dry. Any oil or dirt that gets into it can actually make it worse.

fmartinjr I know it’s common but lubing the clutch assembly will make it work correctly.
Just noticed that Q is a sign and signal model. That puts it being manufactured from early 1950’s to the mid 1970’s
