Modeling Combustion in Liquid Rocket Engines

  • In this webinar, we demonstrate how to model liquid rocket combustors with CONVERGE CFD software. We present several single element combustor test cases spanning a range of conditions from subcritical to supercritical with a variety of common fuel/oxidant combinations, including liquid oxygen with hydrogen, methane, and RP-1. We discuss the various equation of state options available in CONVERGE as well as the use of detailed chemistry to model the chemical kinetics. Furthermore, we cover the case setup for a multi-element injector rig, highlighting the portions of the setup that allow us to capture the wide range of phase space accessed in this model. We demonstrate the effect of the equation of state options and combustion models on the prediction of pressure oscillations in this combustor.
