First of all:
I NEVER comment anything on RUclips! Never! (I actually think this is the very first time,..)
But, I just wanna say this:
I belive that the most of us find it hard to realize how much time and effort you put down in your videoes!
And you deliver EVERY time!
I have seen every single one of them, and you have not disapointed, not one single time!
I LOVE your guitar videos, and have been folowing you the last years.

There is more then just one thing that makes you to such a great «RUclips treasure», and I really wanna
mention some of these things:
-you’re humble
-you’re (obviously) doing a lot of research when you make videoes
-you’re not sloppy! You’re accurate and presise in your learning (don’t know if that last sentence was bad english or not [I’m a norwegian])
-you’re personality/nature/karma (hope this makes sense in english as well) makes your videoes into something that almost put me into a meditative state
-your voice, man! You’ve got such a smoooooth and relaxing voice! :)

Wow, thanks for the comment. I do my best and try to only do videos that are inspired, that way I'm excited to do them. And having 30 years of playing and 20 + years of teaching helps me deliver information a certain way. Glad you like it and thanks again.

I'm not a drummer, however, I found this really interesting.
A lot of psychedelic rock, early hard rock, and early heavy metal uses triplet fills. I really think it's a underutilized technique these days.

you should make a second channel that would be anything drums, and keep this channel only for guitar. As a drummer and a guitarist I would really love to see a second channel called "The Art Of Drums".... like if you agree

Great video and Drummer! Man you have those drums tuned down low! But John did also! I saw him play with Zeppelin back in 1971 at the Orlando Sport Stadium! Jimmy page was so wasted on Heroin he could barely play! John was great! After the show he was breaking down his drums and I asked for one of his Drum sticks! He threw it at me and I had to wrestle for it from the others around me! I was surprised that he disassembled his own drums instead of a drum tech! We waited for the crowd to clear out and he came out! There were probably 20 people in the arena! John was one of the best rock drummers and coolest dudes there ever was! Great memories!
Michael C the show in Orlando is wonderful and Page didn’t find Heroin till 1976.

John Bonham has perfected being able to keep a structure to a beat while also being distinct on the drums. He deserves so much credit.
I would love to see a Video on Mike Portnoy. He's not easy, but I think he's important to study if you're getting into drumming.

I'm the guy that grew up with and LOVED Zep, but didn't understand most of what you pointed out. My son understood most of it quickly at a young age, because he was born with a 'drummers brain'. THANK YOU for making such a great video that will be appreciated by both types of brains!!
I have played drums for 7 years and Bonham is my all time favorite.
I still enjoyed watching this, even though i know most of these techniques
Nice fool in the rain shuffle. The six hours you spent on it shows. One of the better executions of that beat Ive seen.
I'm brand new at drumming. I just got my first Roland RD 1K electronic drum kit. This video is a must watch. A wealth of information that helps me out immediately. Now I can just practice these parts and implement them into my practice. Thank you for this.

Holy crap I just randomly found this. I watch A LOT of these types of videos and the first thing I noticed is the quality of your production... the level of your voice, the level of the drum set- absolutely PERFECT to listen and play to... the other thing that was instantly apparent was the sound quality of your set... GOOD LORD the sound you're getting out of that set is UNBELIEVABLE! HOW THE HELL DID YOU DO THAT? If I got that sound out of my set, I'd play that thing all damn night and day!!! One suggestion- don't listen to ANYONE'S suggestions, just keep doing it the way you are... I'm 1:48 into this thing and I'm a subscriber.

The biggest thing I'm working on now is adding the kick into my rolls. I can do the triplet and quad rolls, but not really clean, so I've been slowing it down to clean everything up. Also, watching videos like this one, on how to play drums(I just got a set again after many years) really shows how important it is to have some guidance when learning, because just playing along with songs, you don't realize how many little accents you are really missing... Thanks!!! Take it easy...
Comprehensive, precise and easy to understand, even for a guitarist like me. It was super inspiring and as a guitarist, the "fool in the rain shuffle" is the beat that really gets me interested and inspired. Thank you very much
That was a total groove toolbox of tricks, not just Bonzo exclusive but left for personal interpretation in the style of.. glad to see others playing both guitar and drums.. that ghost note exercise was helpful, great video!

I guess this afternoon is "cruising down drum memory lane" for me. I was a drummer (certainly not in Bonham's league) 35-40 years ago. Some of the vids I've watched in the past hour or so reminded me of fun on the drums and some of the great/bad/weird times in various bands back then.
Not a drummer however I love a great drummer. Nothing better than playing a groove on guitar and listening to an interesting drummer behind you. Bonham is hands down one of my favorites. Great technique showcase. 👍👍👀
Very good video! I was fortunate to see Led Zeppelin in 1973, amazing show! Especially watching John doing the "Moby Dick" drum solo. Halfway through, he tossed the sticks and used his hands! He was playing on the Amber Vistalite kit which he had just gotten that year. He was one of the first to play this new Vistalite line from Ludwig and was the only Amber tinted kit of the first run!
Playing the drums, can you make some tutorials about time signatures and rhythm?

Great video, very useful. Minor point though - Bonham played his triplet fills as Left Right Kick, not Right Left Kick - doesn't really matter, but good to be aware that it gives a slightly different sound. I find it interesting that most drummers do one or the other, but few can do both...
And it's worth saying that the start of 'Rock n Roll was actually based on the start of Johnny B Goode, and matches that rhythm exactly. Once you hear it, it totally makes sense. Try telling the guitarist that though...

I noticed something that Bonzo used to do and i don't know if anyone else had, but he would mount a tamborine on top of his high-hat and just gave it a dynamic sound and with the other rock drummers in the day like Bill Ward of Black Sabbath and Keith Moon from the who and Ringo any advantage was good

This was so good! I don't play drums but I do programme them for when I'm recording guitar or my own songs, I've picked up a few of these techniques from John but wow, so much!! You can tell why he's regarded so highly. Great video! I'm adding it so I can re-watch again and again!
lots of good stuff in one vid, the kit sounds very Bonham. One thing..always use the big butt end of the stick on the cross stick rim click. Sounds a lot meatier.

To me the most incredible, original and unique drum working is in LZ Four Stick song, so underrated.
Until this moment I have not seen anyone interpret it because keeping the pace is very difficult.
Just listen to the hi hat tempo throughout the whole song, he just goes on and on without losing a beat while Bonham is playing apparently the same drums section in the whole song; there's no other rock song with this continuous pattern.

V useful, as a guitar player who steps in on drums now n again in a friends fun vintage rock band this really helped me as i don't really know what I'm doing (all instinctive) Steve White & John bonham is my vibe. So the side of stick on ride bell is a killer, plus the ghost notes on snare. Muschos Gracias.

Lol - When I was first learning the Live Version of Moby Dick from TSRTS Soundtrack that Crossover Tecnique at full "Bonham Speed" was a Pain on my left wrist - I hit my left wrist so hard and so often that I developed a bump the size of a Golf Ball - and it hurt like hell - Once you get that down at full speed, man does it feel great - Awesome technique - But man, getting there - PAIN. I love the video but I think it is critical that you point out that John Bonham was an Off-Beat Drummer - That is why on many songs he places a Kick Drum Beat where you would naturally (As an "on" beat Drummer) place a Sanre strike and Vice-Versa. Though there are hundreds of examples of this throughout their material, it is very apparent in the Live Version of No Qaurter, and especially in Achilles Last Stand and Trampled Under Foot. I totally get the "6 Hours Straight", I used to come from work around 4 and play till 10-11 at night, many Saturdays were drum marathons and I was only working on two ro three techniques..Lol. I am now 62 and I have been a "Bonham Understudy" since I was 12 - Keith Moon, Buddy Rich, et.al. as well, but I am an Off Beat Drummer so Bonzo's style and me got along very well, and you do get to a point where people as many, many times, what kind of double pedal you got, man it's fast - When I tell them I have a Single pedal - WHAT !!?? Lol, I love that. I have acutually had people tell me they don't believe me and go look at my Pedal(s), shocked to see only one.

Maybe the best drum vid I've seen, keeping talk and spoon-feeding to a minimum. You respect the viewer's time which is rare! Bonham I never was crazy for but only started getting interested in the last few years. I've always been a Copeland fan mainly but the little drums I play sounds nothing like either.
Please do the techniques of Keith Moon that would be great

@@cjnoir5562 Well said! Keith’s style of playing was perfectly suited for The Who, and I doubt very much that anyone disparaging it could ever come close to playing with as much passion and technique as he had.
