I am a triathlete and vegetarian. I am the best in Sweden AG sprint. I have been taking creatine for two weeks now. After 5 days I noticed the effect on the bike and swimming. I push 10w more on the bike. It is a 3% improvement and in swimming I do not feel tired after the intervals. I train 16 times a week and when you take creatine, your body is strong on every session. Absolutely incredible. It will be interesting to see how the training goes in the future. No loading, just 3-5g a day and no weight gain.
I started taking creatine for cognitive energy and saw a big improvement in my ability to process information. I went with the dose I felt my body needed, and the first 6 days, I was taking a total of 4 doses of 5mg a day (one dose every 2-3 hours), and after that, I felt my energy lasts the whole day just with 1 or 2 doses a day. Maybe I was very deficient in Creatine in general, but to me, it gives me more energy than coffee itself.
I am experiencing the same thing. I am always tired but all blood work is good..Saw Creatine and decided to try and and noticed a big improvement the 2nd day
I'm currently experimenting with eliminating creatine to see if it improves my sleep. I've been off for a month. While it's too early to tell, this past week has been the best sleep I've had in a really long time. In November, I counted only 48% of nights where I was able to sleep more than 6 hours. But looking at the past 16 days, I'm now hitting 81% of nights where I sleep more than 6 hours. To add to this, usually 8-hour nights are pretty rare for me, but I've had two 8-hour nights in the past two weeks. I'm looking forward to sharing my January results. I've also noticed that on the days where I slept only 4 or 5 hours, I'm actually able to lay down for a nap and fall asleep, whereas on creatine I could never nap despite being sleep deprived.
I developed severe insomia bevause of craetine where in its like 3 days i cant sleep. And suffered for months I stopped it and now i can sleep. I keep telling this to people but they still bringing up “ the most researched supplement “ 😅.
@@romualdoboyadjian3705 I did an entire podcast episode on this. "Most researched" is an extreme under statement. There has never been a long term controlled study on creatine supplementation and sleep in humans.
Happy New Year! I heard about creatine back in the '90's when there was a loading dose. Thankfully, good science marched on and we learned that it wasn't necessary. Loved the video and I hope the best for you and your family in 2025!
I must admit, I noticed nose hair loss when I was snorting creatine 😂, now I mix 7g with warm water and drink it I’m fine and can report no problems or side effects 😊
Been on it for 15 years without an issues. 5g a day when I go off I mostly see my cognition suffer. Might be in my head lol but I always feel more brain fog off it.
Taken creatine for years and never had any negative issues at all. No hair loss, no dehydration, no sleep issues, nothing. I do notice an improvement in my energy levels and cognitive performance increase. Take about 6-7g a day. I do believe I get a little bit of water retention. Other than that, by far one of the best things I've started taking daily!
Everytime i take Creatine, it gives me HORRIBLE insomnia. Just one scoop, and i don't sleep well for a whole week. I tested this out, and yes it's true. Others have reported the same result.
In a future video, could you address the effects, both good or bad, on Seniors. I've seen other YT videos that have touted the super benefits of Creatine supplementation for people 60 and older, and have not heard about possible down sides like water retention. Thank you. P.S. I just bought a jar of Creatine Monohydrate and plan to start taking it in the New Year. I'm a 72 year old female, with a very sedentary life-style because of a lack of energy and typical pains in the lower back and right knee. Trying to 'kick-start' my New Year.
How can you bring up possible DHT and hair loss and not bring up DHT and the impact it has on prostate enlargement? Should someone with BPH stay away from creatine (if only just in case) or not?
I can tell you without any doubt it causes hairloss, at least for me individually. I have cycled Creatine a number of times with periods between. Each starting phase and not loading but just 5gm daily after about 4-5 days the shedding commences. Noticeable thinning. On the bright side once stopping the hair grows back.
Creatine sent me to the ER. I have SVT bouts few times a year and prone to heart palpitations. Creatine shot my heartrate and made me feel like I couldn't breathe. Irregular heartbeat and difficulty breathing deep after the fast heartbeat subsided. This happened 3 times. Twice I went to urgent care, once to ER. Time and time again creatine and my heart simply don't mesh well. If you Google or Reddit "Creatine heart" you'll know I'm not the only one and not making it up. It legit is not good for some people. Creatine is a phenomenal thing when it comes to training in the gym. After only 7 days of use, you will feel much more energy, quick recovery. In my case, when I first started with creatine, in the initial months in the gym, I did dumbbell bench press with 15 kg 10 repetitions, after only 7 days of using creatine I did 20 kg also 10 repetitions. As for hair loss, everything is fine. Just drink plenty of water, I drank 4 liters of water a day. However, the first time I stopped using creatine for only 3 days and my blood pressure was so high, I ended up in the hospital. I didn't take it too seriously, I continued with the creatine, the blood pressure was normal and only occasionally a little elevated. After 2 weeks, I didn't use creatine for only 2 days because I was sick and didn't train for a week and my blood pressure was too high, much higher than the first time. So, I don't know if I will use it again. I'm sorry because I don't know if this has happened to anyone else. That's just my experience. For the first time, people will compliment your appearance when you take creatine because your arms will be incredibly big after just a month, that's for sure. Phenomenal thing for training, as far as health is concerned, I don't really know. I would like to continue using creatine as it is really a phenomenal thing for training, the best I have ever tried but I will have to see with the doctors. Definitely try, I don't believe this will happen to everyone. In addition to all that I mentioned, I have been in sports all my life. And I have no health problems. I practiced tennis for 7 years and basketball for the same amount of time. And now I am a recreational player in those sports.

Around a month into taking it I notice I will start having anxiety problems and I stop. It's recommended so ubiquitously that I keep convincing myself the creatine isn't causing it and it happens again. I haven't looked into it but I'm guessing it doesn't mix well with my adhd.
@@IronDruids I doubt it’s your ADHD, as it’s basically just dehydrated salt from red meat. It might be the extra atp but that doesn’t seem right either. It’s mostly recommended to atheletics and people doing a lot of strength training because the added atp helped with recovery during the workout between sets and it might help you get an extra rep here and there. That extra rep over time over lots of sets turns into extra volume means extra gains. I’ve taken it for years without any issues. It’s not a miracle drug though you don’t have to be on it. It won’t make or break anything. I also feel a difference cognitively as in brain fog and focus. Coming from someone who also has adhd and suffers from anxiety I feel Better on it than off. I just take 5g a day single ingredient mono hydrate with a glass of water every morning and I forget about after that. Were you taking it at your workout and daily outside of it
@@zyncarla I've always taken it 5g in the morning, but initially with the recomended 20g loading phase. Perhaps for me the lifted brain fog translates into a more active mind. An active mind can easily become anxious. Or maybe it's because outside of my workouts I'm not very active, perhaps if I added more movement throughout the day it wouldn't become an issue. Either way, I'm getting by fine without it. Thanks for being so helpful :)
For some time now I have had a problem with water management in my body and and problem with health of skin. In one place, a lot of water collects under the skin. In another place, the skin is dry and cracked. I did not consider creatine, only too little protein and vitamin D intake.
Creatine for 20 plus years. I’m 66 now and the only thing I’ve noticed is people think I color my hair. I have a little gray starting at my sideburns, but that’s it. I don’t know if that’s the creatine or just genetics.
started taking creatine beginning of Feb 2024 since then Ive put on about 10lbs lean muscle mass and yes a little bit of fat as Im trying to build. there were times of water retention that went away as fast as it happened and as far as I can tell no hair loss my hair is less dense then when I was 30 but the thinning was happening way before i started on creatine. Im 55. so far so good 🤞🏼
I used ON Nutrition creatine. It's fine. As a woman didn't noticed hair loss, acne (like from other creatines), but after not using it for just 2 days, I peed A LOT and my pants are looser.
Depends... If your work outweighs what you get from the meat, yes you should. And remember, he was referring here to muscle effects. Creatine helps the brain as well, you know. as well as other things.
carnivore here and still take creatine. 2lbs of meat still is only roughly 5gs or so (thats assuming its acting how you want it to). so if you do heavy exercise and are veryyy active still a great idea to take more. i take 10-15gs daily depending on activity and how fired up i want my brain to be. i also like it for the water retention, keeps me holding water to be used. landscaping a couple days a week ontop of exercise so i hit roughly 10000-20000 steps regularly
Great video Thomas, if we take creatine and start balding will you pay for our hair transplant? Having a decent head of hair is more important than adding an extra inch or two on your arms.
30 yrs of using creatine still have my hair at 55 I'm also a hyper responder to creatine. I still look actually like I did in my 30s but Im sure at some point that won't be the case.
I have cycled on and off creatine and every time I was on it made me lose hair. It would take about 4 weeks after stopping for the hair loss to quit. I was taking about 3g per day. Take studies with a grain of salt as they are secondary data, talking to people is primary data. What I don't know is if it will happen to everyone or if the hair loss is permanent. Lastly, I had never heard of hair loss being associated with creatine when this happened so it was not placebo effect.
I recently did a blood and urine test and doctor said my kidneys were dry even though ı drink 3-4 liters of water everyday, ı immediately quit creatine afterwards. I was using 3 times a week / 5 grams.
I had pericarditis this September and the blood tests showed GFR just above 60. I'm 34 (80kg) fit guy, no issues or all but I've been taking creatine 3-5x times a week for the last few years. Few years ago I only saw that my creatinine lvl was high, but now they measured GFR too. Got me scared as I rather want healthy kindey than big muscles. I restarted taking creatine now but 2-3 times a week, now a lil scoop, that's probably 2-3g not 5.
Why the 1-5gram value? Someone who's, for example, 6'9" tall would need to take more than, say, someone who's 5'6" tall to get the same saturation. Why isn't this mentioned - with any dosing?
Why does creatine monohydrate (creapure) makes me fall sick quickly (less than one week) with only 3g to 5g a day? I've tried 2 times (once in 2014, and another time in 2017) and same result : i fall ill quickly, like 4 o 5 days.
I am another one who experienced hair loss each of the four times I got on creatine monohydrate. Too bad, because I liked it otherwise. I have been considering one more go but with creatine hcl which seems to have less potential for side effects. Any info on hcl form, Thomas?
Then there are those of us who have gut issues with creatine monohydrate. If that’s you, creatine hydrochloride (HCL) might be the answer. That’s what I use.
Even some Finasteride users report of hair loss from Creatine so it might not be linked to DHT Megadosing Vitamin B5 (some people take lots of it to fix acne) is known to cause lots of hair shedding
Just FYI, finasteride has lots of studies showing more secondary effects than X, harder to reverse after stoppage in contrast to X, and less effectiveness than X. And X being Dutasteride. You can do the research on this comparison studies are fully available on peer reviewed medical journals.
I eve been taking creatine for at least 30 plus years and haven’t noticed any negative side effects. I’am bald aka the “cul de sac” and shave my head so I may not be the best source for an opinion.
TicTac‘s have an ingredient in them to give it a shine. What’s makes TicTac’s appealing to your eyes and that ingredient is one of the ingredients used in car waxes the FDA said that’s fine for you /(NOT)

68 and was bald before I ever heard of creatine 😂. Now use 3-5 grams a day for last 4 months. Huge difference in cognition, mental and physically. Really works too for enhancing muscle gain. However, when using more than 5 grams a day my blood pressure goes high. Your experience may vary.
@rhensontollhouse I found that it has a placebo effect. I thought it was doing all that too. But my nutrition was crap. Now I'm eating properly and have never felt this good. And I've never gained so much muscle and kept it. When I stopped creatine I deflated like a balloon. I think being hydrated is just as good. And also water for the brain will keep you sharp.
great video Thomas! who would risk fluid retention in the heart muscle or any sort of fluid retention for that matter just to feel a little stronger in the gym - not this wood duck! work hard, be consistent and maintain a disciplined mindset and you will be a winner!
Two friends of mine and I work out a lot and are in our 30's now. They took creatine consistently since their early 20's and were showing balding since mid 20's. One friend let it happen, one took propecia and still has hair. I never took creatine and still have my hair luckily. It's a small sample size but always thought there was a correlation between creatine and hair loss.

Good as thumbnail
For some time now I have had a problem with water management in my body and and problem with health of skin. In one place, a lot of water collects under the skin. In another place, the skin is dry and cracked. I did not consider creatine, only too little protein and vitamin D intake.
Tried it 8 times over 10 years . Each time made my hair fell like tree leaves during fall season. So F** any study that says the opposite
Im 55. so far so good 🤞🏼
Does lean muscle mass include more water storage in muscles too?
@@Giovanni-Giorgio yah of course not what's your point?
For those over 60, creatine has shown brain health benefits in our age group, BUT! It can raise blood pressure, especially in loading doses.
I'm over 60 and it raised my systolic BP by 20 points.
I used ON Nutrition creatine. It's fine. As a woman didn't noticed hair loss, acne (like from other creatines), but after not using it for just 2 days, I peed A LOT and my pants are looser.
It’s like protein. If you’re talking too much and not utilizing in through activity. It can have unintended consequences.
So should carnivores take creatine?
Carnivores take creative via meat.
We get creatine from the beef, but I still take 2 grams in the morning..
There are some sources saying that creatine has cognitive benefits, so it might still help some people in that way. Check it out.
Been using creatine for 24 years sounds like your just running out of content so let's start with the creatine again ! 😂😂
Dumb comment
Which one is better? Creatine HCL or Monohydrate?
Great video Thomas, if we take creatine and start balding will you pay for our hair transplant? Having a decent head of hair is more important than adding an extra inch or two on your arms.
Not for Toretto LOL. Much men loss their hair with no creatine supplements whatsoever. It is just a genetic lottery, stop taking videos so personal.
My mom is 52, in early menopause, is creative healthy for her?
Look at doctor Haver from the Galveston Diet
I felt more "coordinated" when I began supplementing creatine.
30 yrs of using creatine still have my hair at 55 I'm also a hyper responder to creatine. I still look actually like I did in my 30s but Im sure at some point that won't be the case.
If a person takes a water pill like HCTZ for blood pressure wouldn’t this cancel out the creatine benefits?
higher dose gave me minor gut discomfort and anxiety
start working out. Pump it.
I just wanted to see if anyone's yet commented on how you look like you're channeling your inner Keegan-Michael Key in that thumbnail.
Lastly, I had never heard of hair loss being associated with creatine when this happened so it was not placebo effect.
what about having a hard time digesting creatine?
take some r-lipoic acid with it.
I have a question and can never get a good answer can you take Creatine with hypertension
No … dont take it if u have hypertension. It can also cause kidney damage . Not worth it mate . Stick to red meat and chicken u will be good
Not sure, I would ask your doctor to be safe
I recently did a blood and urine test and doctor said my kidneys were dry even though ı drink 3-4 liters of water everyday, ı immediately quit creatine afterwards. I was using 3 times a week / 5 grams.
Can you please say based on what he said your kidneys were dry? What did he looked to exactly, in blood and urine?
your doctor saw elevated creatinine levels.
that can be from kidney disfunction... or creatine supplementation.
this is all balogne.
Your doctors full of shit
dehydration is what kills the kidney, people underestimate the amount of water is needed at these doses.
0:32 What’s this “normal human” you refer to?
Why the 1-5gram value? Someone who's, for example, 6'9" tall would need to take more than, say, someone who's 5'6" tall to get the same saturation. Why isn't this mentioned - with any dosing?
Why does creatine monohydrate (creapure) makes me fall sick quickly (less than one week) with only 3g to 5g a day? I've tried 2 times (once in 2014, and another time in 2017) and same result : i fall ill quickly, like 4 o 5 days.
5~10g is recommended to see results and is based on your body weight. If you are 100KG good luck supplementing under 5g.
I am another one who experienced hair loss each of the four times I got on creatine monohydrate.
Too bad, because I liked it otherwise. I have been considering one more go but with creatine hcl which seems to have less potential for side effects. Any info on hcl form, Thomas?
isn't creatine dosage body weight dependent?
Then there are those of us who have gut issues with creatine monohydrate. If that’s you, creatine hydrochloride (HCL) might be the answer. That’s what I use.
Even some Finasteride users report of hair loss from Creatine so it might not be linked to DHT
Megadosing Vitamin B5 (some people take lots of it to fix acne) is known to cause lots of hair shedding
Just FYI, finasteride has lots of studies showing more secondary effects than X, harder to reverse after stoppage in contrast to X, and less effectiveness than X. And X being Dutasteride. You can do the research on this comparison studies are fully available on peer reviewed medical journals.
I’m still waiting for the studies to come out on creatine and penis girth
No talk about sleep disruption?
I take one dose in the morning with no issues, but if I take it after lunch, I get insomnia.
I find 5g+ affects my hair. 2-3g seems fine though
I eve been taking creatine for at least 30 plus years and haven’t noticed any negative side effects.
I’am bald aka the “cul de sac” and shave my head so I may not be the best source for an opinion.
my personal experience is that creatine cause very quickly hair loss, after only few days of low dosage.
If you have not lost hair from the TRT yet you are good to go.
TicTac‘s have an ingredient in them to give it a shine. What’s makes TicTac’s appealing to your eyes and that ingredient is one of the ingredients used in car waxes the FDA said that’s fine for you /(NOT)
Thomas DeLauer for the Hair Club for Men.
What if I hate hair anyway?
🏋♂ This is such an informative and well-balanced take on creatine! 💡👏 Thank you for addressing the concerns so clearly-it’s hard to find content that explains both benefits and risks like this. 🔍✨ Do you think creatine is safe for beginners, or should they consult a trainer first? 🤔💪
I'm wondering if this is accelerating hair loss on my crown. Never loaded. I'm at about 3g per day, and about 1# meat per day. Using Creapure. Hmm.
Yooo
Ayyyooo why are you almost Bald on the Thumbnail Thomas
I think I’m a non responder
Is there anyway to know for certain?
Research is pretty limited, and it doesn’t directly show that creatine causes hair loss.
I am taking like 5 grams ir less...as a woman...shoukd I keep taking it?
thats a safe dosage for women/men daily
Highly processed foods
You just did a video pushing these creatinine gummies..create…
Every time I try taking creatine, my voice gets weak and raspy. Anyone else experience that?
I hypothesize that the muscles of the larynx and vocal folds are puffing up with water and affecting my voice.
Yes, losing hair few days after starting taking 5 g a day. Be warned.
What a clickbaity thumbnail. How dare he...! 😭
So, my hair I started creatine 3 months ago, and my hair started falling out. I didn't connect the two. I'm gna chill on it for now.
If your puffy you are probably fat .. so dont see the issue with puffy creatine use .. just get lean thats it
Women have a tendency to hold water even when fit
Every older guy at my gym are bald and ripped. So i supose thats why people defend it. Fat and have hair or bald and be ripped.😂😂😂 not for me
68 and was bald before I ever heard of creatine 😂.
That’s steroids my Freind!! Not creatine.
Hair loss for the majority of people will not be caused by creatine.
great video Thomas! who would risk fluid retention in the heart muscle or any sort of fluid retention for that matter just to feel a little stronger in the gym - not this wood duck! work hard, be consistent and maintain a disciplined mindset and you will be a winner!
Human biology expert Dr. Bart Kay says that all creatine does is make the muscles retain more fluid. Waste of money.
It can develop severe insomia.
I'm bald so not really alarmed
Two friends of mine and I work out a lot and are in our 30's now. They took creatine consistently since their early 20's and were showing balding since mid 20's. One friend let it happen, one took propecia and still has hair. I never took creatine and still have my hair luckily. It's a small sample size but always thought there was a correlation between creatine and hair loss.
