Illinois has a SPENDING problem. By raising taxes they just increased the rate of their death spiral as more people leave and more companies leave. Illinois has a NEGATIVE population growth so raising taxes is the WORST thing they can do. Serves them right. When the last taxpayer leaves the deadbeats that remain can turn out the lights.

Bye bye Illinois! The wife and I just moved out to NW Indiana specifically due to this problem. The property tax on our home is $582/year. State income tax also sunk from 4.95 to 3.23%. Indiana has a budget surplus of 1.8 billion dollars. By 2021 the entitlement minded IL state employees will be burning down buildings when their state defaults on all their bloated pensions. I don’t feel sorry for them. Go get a 401k like the rest of us!!! Instead of sending your mob union bosses to wheel and deal selling votes to corrupt politicians making license plates in Joliet.
They have so much poverty and think they can raise enough money by increasing taxes. Worse of all are the property taxes, which if you can't afford to pay means loosing your home.
The real problem is that a city or state can't just die a nice, quiet, death through bankruptcy and start over fresh. It festers worse and worse and the death throes get more violent until only the most truly incompetent people are left. Then they start killing each other and it becomes a base for criminal activity that starts infecting neighbors as well.
People will be leaving these democratic states... The property taxes are insane in Illinois.. My grandfather pays 13,000$ a year for property taxes in Illinois. Also Illinois was stealing lottery money and people was getting IOU.. And yes the unfunded pensions can't continue.. The total for this is 127+ trillion for the USA.. Bottom line is no more pensions for government employees.. Work just like every normal person..
The USA should pass new laws you don't earn 25k a year you don't vote! You don't own realestate you don't vote on those issues affecting property! They should do away with property taxes everything should be sales tax driven. It is unfair for property owner to be double taxed.
