when he played across the stars i seriously nearly cried. it was just too beautiful. I've listened to it a hundred times before, but somehow i still tear up
That chilling ending of Leia’s theme does a beautiful send off to her character by gentle notes, fitting end to end the medley of Star Wars. Cried a little bit on how beautiful it is.
The "all cello" sound is more intense than I thought it would be. It gives everything a much more ominous tone. I listened end to end and loved this. Extremely well done.
Hector Lannibal The cello is so criminally underrated as a melody instrument, instead often being relegated to countermelody or bass lines that don't do the instrument the justice it deserves. I'd say this instrument and the French Horn are my favorite instruments that receive this treatment. You've just gotta love the fullness and richness of the sound.
Amy Wallace I completely agree, i play the cello and I have a friend who plays the French horn and he rarely gets to play the main melody. And as a cello player there aren't a huge amount of orchestral pieces that feature us as the main part
You are one of the most talented people I've ever seen. You're not only playing an instrument very well, I can also see that you're very emotional and passionate person while playing.
The cello is a magical instrument. It's lyrical and tonal capabilities are beyond comprehension. As a cello player I am beyond glad I chose to play it.
I love how you didnt go for the Imperial March and Main theme that EVERYONE covers, instead you chose other pieces much more beautiful in my opinion. Congratulations on the great work! You've earn a subscriber c:
Agreed. There's a tiny hint of Imperial March with the Funeral theme (similar to the RotS epilogue) but otherwise he picked more underrated pieces and I love it. Well, I guess aside from the Force Theme but...I can't imagine ever leaving that out. I love that for Across the Stars/Battle of the Heroes (which I guess admittedly are also pretty common) he played the lesser known bridges, not just the part everybody knows.
Confession: I love John Williams. I am obsessed with Star Wars scores. The main theme in its 'crawl' variation is probably one of my least favorite pieces. It's just too brassy and garish for me (I do love some of the variations you hear in other places of the score). I mean, it's still great and iconic and high energy but there are about 100 pieces I like better.
i love that this begins with Padme's funeral dirge and ends with Leia's theme. It showcases the two women who were instrumental to "restoring balance" to the Force. So beautiful!
I tend to say if music can conjure up emotions that lie within your own mind while simultaneously bringing a deeper connection between you and a scene or a character, then the composer succeeded. John Williams, you have succeeded.
The precision and accuracy in this medley is astounding, not to mention completely beautiful. Stellar job, sir. I don't know if I've ever subbed faster in my life.
Wow. This is amazing! As a cello player myself, I understand what you're doing may look easy (you make it look so) but is in fact terribly hard. To have such great tone and excellent shifting is great to see in a cellist. Of course, I'm sure you have a very good cello and strings ($10,000+ by my guess) your pitch and rhythm is perfect. I subscribed and just wanted to tell you how much beautiful music like this is appreciated! You deserve millions of subscribers! Keep up the wonderful work!!
my 7th grade orchestra class was supposed to go to Disneyland and perform on stage lots of different Disney songs. I am in tears watching this. I play the cello and because I coronavirus my long 2 year await for the Disney trip, cancelled. This just reminds me of how powerful Star Wars music is and how meaningful the cello is. Thank you so much for the most beautiful cello music I have ever heard.
I listened to this on the day Carrie Fisher passed away. It begins with the funeral theme and ends with Leia's theme, so I thought it fitting, but I didn't realize how much it would affect me. By the end of the medley I was weeping openly in the car. Thank you for making such a beautiful arrangement.
I play this every time I mourn my friend who died January 26, 2020. I just sit in my own thoughts and stare out the window. I think about my own life and how I feel like it’s being wasted. This cover is sad and hopefull. I feel life and death when I hear this. Right now I am unbalanced and this rightfully so is balanced with lights and heavy emotions.
Sometimes when I feel discouraged, I always look back to this video and remember, the beauty and the sole reason of why I play the cello. Thank you Nicholas Yee.
6 yrs and still listening to this masterpiece. Such talent repectflying playing classic star wars themes. Wish I could play as well. Amazing seeing you play ❤
Starwars has such great music. Each piece deviates enough to give the emotion that it wants yet is familiar enough that we all know its all from the same movie
Amazing. I'm a piano player but I feel that it isn't my real instrument of choice. The tones in the Cello are phenomenal, something you just can't hear on a piano, but you can feel on a cello! :)
Beautiful...on a tragic note...doesn't this music just... inspire us all to choke our one true love in front of our mentor. Thank you for this Nicholas, keep being the music
I play cello at my high school and love star wars like its my life. This was just so beautiful that it actually made me cry. I know it will take a lot more practice but I wish to be as great as someone like you.
the cool thing about growing up watching star wars is i haven't actually seen one of the original movies in a long time yet hearing this music is so so so familiar
I'm new to this channel but I already love it. Many musicians can play with emotion in their music, but the few musicians like Nicholas that can make the listener feel the emotions with them is just the most incredible gift. Thank you for sharing your talent with us! look forward to hearing more songs :)
Nicholas I know you probably won’t see this but you truly inspire me. I am a cellist and I can only aspire to be this good it is truly incredible how well you play. You also picked such impactful songs! It’s incredible. You are my cello role model. Congrats 👍👍👍😀😀😲
I came to the realization that strings are the soul of "binary sunset". One youtube search and two videos later, I am correct. So correct that its beautiful I have tears. Then I click on Leias theme and I'm a blubering mess. So beautiful sir. Thank you. We all miss Carrie and this is proof of the impact she had on our lives as the most incredible princess in the galaxy. Thanks to Mr Williams and thanks to you for giving us this very emotional performance. Its so beautiful I would love to use it as the boot file for a replica prop of her saber from rise of skywalker. Just... Incredible.

OMG I was reading through the comments and the description and I knew leia’s theme was going to be played last but nothing could have prepared me for that opening, I’m crying
I will watch this every day until I'm a DEAD PERSON.
Paint, me, too.
*dead channel- haha jk you're awesome
Paint me too Jon!!!
And So Say All of Us!
well now your channel is dead..
are you still watching it?
Star Wars music is so powerful
Its incredible. John Williams sure knows what he's doing!
Lianne Rocheleau he does tend to steal... like, a lot. I love the star wars music, though... I've got mixed feelings :P
it is amazing
PixlPlayer indeed.
You meant "forceful"
“I’ll check this out for a few seconds”
9 minutes and 59 seconds later: “Well I guess I’ll start it over.”
Bruh that’s just like me
Whoa! Never would have expected that song to open any Star Wars medley
It's just really ironic...
I'm so glad he did though! it's my favorite. gives me chills each time
Quality choice, though
And yet it makes perfect sense, not to mention the points this medley scores for sheer awesomeness.
A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one
when he played across the stars i seriously nearly cried. it was just too beautiful. I've listened to it a hundred times before, but somehow i still tear up
It really moved me as well. Ive never really liked the prequels (For example the dialogue is terrible) but the music is just amazing.
"you were right about one thing master, the negotiations were short"
Mason Farrell it makes me think about Coruscant and Padme, and yes it gives me chills
Do you know where I can find the cello notes for it?
I dont, but i myself am a cellist and it wasnt hard to learn by ear
OMG Princess Leia's Theme. So many tears right now.
Yeah....
Sorry for typos I'm replyong through tears
Ending this medley with Leia's theme was fitting after today, 12/27/16. She will be missed.
She passed on my birthday :(
Aurorous yooo same
That chilling ending of Leia’s theme does a beautiful send off to her character by gentle notes, fitting end to end the medley of Star Wars.
Cried a little bit on how beautiful it is.
To me, she is royalty.
Aurorous ok that’s so sad
The "all cello" sound is more intense than I thought it would be. It gives everything a much more ominous tone. I listened end to end and loved this. Extremely well done.
Hector Lannibal The cello is so criminally underrated as a melody instrument, instead often being relegated to countermelody or bass lines that don't do the instrument the justice it deserves. AndyGHKFilm Horns always get counter melody and it's a shame
Colin Henson it's a damn shame, for sure.
AndyGHKFilm As a horn player I have to agree. I get so stoked on the rare occasion that I get a really cool part.
Amy Wallace I completely agree, i play the cello and I have a friend who plays the French horn and he rarely gets to play the main melody. And as a cello player there aren't a huge amount of orchestral pieces that feature us as the main part
Across the Stars is always so beautiful
I love this.
Also R.I.P. Carrie Fisher. This makes a brilliant farewell medley.
You are one of the most talented people I've ever seen. You're not only playing an instrument very well, I can also see that you're very emotional and passionate person while playing.
I agree. In order to be a talented musician, a person needs skill and passion. It is clear that this guy has both in spades.
Why does everything get better when played on a cello? Transcendental really. Astonishingly beautiful and almost perfectly executed.
Because Cellos are supreme
I believe it’s because they say the cello is the closest instrument to the human voice
EXACTLY RIGHT
They're still there just subtly mixed in. Perfectly done.
But the Imperial March is there, just very softly played.

Thank you for not playing the main theme. John Williams wrote so much great music for star wars. Most cover artists never seem to get that.
Confession: I love John Williams. I am obsessed with Star Wars scores. The main theme in its 'crawl' variation is probably one of my least favorite pieces. It's just too brassy and garish for me (I do love some of the variations you hear in other places of the score). It wasn't Padme's funeral, I think. Jinn?
MiguelPpM it was jinn but I think padmè had it to
Talea Hughes yessssss
Pretty sure it was qui gons funeral... In the phantom menace.
@@marshallmatez1762 It's both - the Revenge of the Sith epilogue uses the Naboo Funeral theme
I tend to say if music can conjure up emotions that lie within your own mind while simultaneously bringing a deeper connection between you and a scene or a character, then the composer succeeded.
John Williams, you have succeeded.
Agree 100% and would like to add that Nicholas Yee has also very very much succeeded!
This made me think of how important Star Wars was to my childhood.... and I'm crying now. What a beautiful rendition.
Battle of the Heroes was so cool. Same with Across the Stars.
perfect, absolutely perfect. literally I can't find a single mistake it's awesome
Charlie he probably wasn't.
Barney and friends Dude calm down, it was meant to be a compliment
The precision and accuracy in this medley is astounding, not to mention completely beautiful. Stellar job, sir. I don't know if I've ever subbed faster in my life.
i don't think i've ever seen or heard anything more beautiful in my entire life
I play cello too this is INSANE SO BEAUTIFUL I envy his skill
I also play the cello, keep up the amazing work, I want to be as good as you some day.
my 7th grade orchestra class was supposed to go to Disneyland and perform on stage lots of different Disney songs. I am in tears watching this. So beautiful! R.I.P Carrie x you are missed!!!!
I literally don’t know how anyone can dislike this video. This beautiful playing is enough to make a grown man cry... and that’s ok
Holy hell, man. Beautiful work. All of it!
+Daniel Ciurlizza Thanks so much Daniel, I'm glad you enjoyed this!
SELECT A FLEET TO COMMAND. I love how you picked these songs instead of main imperial march and main theme
Lol people probably dislike this because they know that they will never get to your level of greatness
I’m so sorry for the loss!
I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Thinking of you 💕
Sometimes when I feel discouraged, I always look back to this video and remember, the beauty and the sole reason of why I play the cello. Thank you Nicholas Yee.
Extremely well done...... This is one of my favorite videos on RUclips
+Elijah131 Anderson I genuinely appreciate it! Thanks for the support :)
watching this brings back so many good memories
Across the stars is beautiful
OMG the force theme!!!! I LOVE Star Wars!
I don't like modern music. It's course and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.
This is better, though.
Cap'n Game omg
Everything here is soft ....and smooth
Some of this is very modern!
Hahahahaha

I think the prequels music is WAY to underrated, and you nailed that home. Thanks for showing people how beautiful this music really is.
This is honestly why I play the cello
Absolutely beautiful composition from the maestro. Princess Leia's Theme always gets me.
I think Princess Leia's Theme is definitely my favourite from the entire series 🙌
Listening to this gave me the most sincere heartwarm of my life.
binary sunset has always been one of my favorites
Same. And with a single cello it sounds even more powerful than the entire london symphony. The power of one.
I was blown away at the beauty of Star Wars on the Cello.
Can you do Les Miserables next time? I think you'll nail it.
YES
loOk dOwN
6 yrs and still listening to this masterpiece. Such talent repectflying playing classic star wars themes. Wish I could play as well. Amazing seeing you play ❤
Wow... I got chills from this. Nothing quite like the voice of a cello, so rich and low, and then high and light. And to mash that with Star Wars!
Starwars has such great music. Each piece deviates enough to give the emotion that it wants yet is familiar enough that we all know its all from the same movie
i literally cried during Across the stars
Holy moly across the stars sounded so beautiful... I'm shooketh.
Amazing. I'm a piano player but I feel that it isn't my real instrument of choice. The tones in the Cello are phenomenal, something you just can't hear on a piano, but you can feel on a cello! :)
jz415650 if you wanna do cello I recommend doing it, it's fun and it makes learning a guitar easier.
The Strings I think violin was the instrument? I'm not exactly sure.
One billion loves for this beautiful Star Wars cello medley performance by the GREAT Nic Yee!
The next time someone says star wars is all lightsabers I'm bringing them here.
I don't understand what kind of person could dislike this, excellent job.
Rest in peace, Princess. You will be missed...
(Carrie Fisher)
We still miss her. Now and forever.
i keep coming back, especially for the across the stars segment ,,, somehow so beautiful and so haunting at the same time. phenomenal
You played Leia's theme brilliantly in the end! Great video'
+Maximilian Euler Music Thanks so much for watching until the end! The Princess Leia theme is my favourite.
I cannot select a better medley and cello for a funeral ! Simply too much on point.

I had to listen to this one a few times. The opening was breathtaking. The cellos portray so much darkness and emotion. Brilliant arrangement.
I play the cello too this is my fourth year! This is awesome 👏🏼
That moment when you feel thw shiver....
Absolutley beautiful.
One of the best arrangements of this piece I got mad respect man
Btw where can I find the sheet music for this

Wow...you're such a dynamic and engaging performer to watch and listen to. Subbed in an instant 😊

OMG YOU REPLIED 🥰
Nicholas Yee I am!
I love the transition between the funeral theme and The Imperial March. But I would say Battle Of The Heroes is my favourite
One of the best Star Wars Medleys I have listened 😍❤ You are really talented 👌
He played battle of the heroes so well
Simply beautiful
I’m at a loss for words!! It’s too powerful! I’m a dire hard Star Wars fan and for me this is just heaven! Honestly the best Star Wars score ever!

I LOVE LEIA'S THEME OMYGOODNESS IT'S SO GOOD
