(Original) Traveling Through Tartarus [YM2612 + SN76489]

after saving the fiery populace of Volcanic Valley, the protag and their friend are surprised by a sudden explosion in one of the volcanoes in the area, only to find out it's completely hollow! no lava or anything!
and so, our two heroes jump in to figure out what's going on.
it seems kind of dark in here... luckily, our protagonist here can (mysteriously) see through the advanced darkness shrouding this place.

Nice rhythm.
The fast pace gives me the impression that towards the end of the level the heroes will riding on the back of either a big drilling machine (if sci-fi or pulp) or a burrowing monster (if fantasy or horror).
