While I really like your races and you're a pretty damn good driver, I also like to see when you mess up. You showing us your struggles helps us relate. Your crashes and whatnot also help to educate you as well as the rest of us on how NOT to take certain areas. Just some food for thought. All in all, fun races as usual!
As someone who hadn’t gotten into GT7 / sim racing until a bit later, I always appreciate your content since I think it really catalyzed my enjoyment for both. Hope you’re doing well and wishing you a fantastic day Super GT :)
You mentioned the physics of the corner, something definitely broken in the middle of the corner in the reverse layout. Somehow there is seemingly no grip at all in the middle of the corner and it's really easy to lose the back end. Really feels like there's a patch of ice there. Thought it was me, but I drove this race a couple of times yesterday and saw others struggle in exactly the same way. Other than that I really like the reverse layout, the whole middle section is awesome. The hairpin and the high speed section before it is a real treat too
I don't play gt that much but it looks like the camber drops off drastically about a car length off the apex which is probably why he understeers if he goes wide and oversteers when he gets it in that groove. Just have to be conscious in your prediction of what line you are taking and adjust yourself accordingly beforehand.
Firstly, awesome battle - it was like a chess game, well done! Secondly, I never played the original layout of this circuit, but I think this corner and the track in general is okay. I think the main problem with the hairpin (I struggle with it as well) is the fact that in order to hit the apex you need to go a little downhill, as a result the rear becomes too light which results in oversteer. I guess we could be able to mitigate this to some extend if we were still able to use break balance...
@supergt some wheels (including yours I think) don't get the low curb rumble like in gt sport as it's now assigned to haptic engines. Please bring this up in a video as Polyphony left many of us in the dust.
i could be very wrong. but on a classic track like this. i feel the change well, changes the difficulty floor/ceiling. it allows more room for new and older generation to clash. its like that one chicane at spa. it separates the boys from the men to easily. you can tell who "knows what they are doing" and that more or less isnt a fun race.
Wow, I stumbled upon your race videos by chance and I have to say, you've got me hooked! Your skill and passion for cars really shine through in your content. You're making me more interested in cars than I ever thought possible. Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see more!
the way you do that turn is not by following a gradual apex. instead, you come in to the turn fast, brake hard, and treat the turn like a V instead of like a U. yes it means you will reach a lower speed than if you had followed an apex, but it also means youre out of the turning process, faster. its why some of the drivers were seemingly stopping on the apex of that turn.
With that tight of a hairpin, you can only either run the inside to save distance, or take a late line, almost a u turn and just drag race through the apex and carry as much speed as you can into the straight, kinda like what Max Power did to pass you the first time
One of my only two ever daily race first places was on this daily yesterday. I was stoked. (Only c class, but beat a few B clssses). It was one of those rare clean races. Its the little battles though midfield where this game shines. You can have such epic moments - even in the last places. GT7 VR is really a dream come true for an old Atari Pong player.
I've pretty much given up on GT7, but yeah, that hairpin is an affront against humanity. Much more so when I loved that last part of Deep Forest in the old games.
It's sad that the track works better in reverse than it does forward. PD clearly doesn't play their own tracks when they make them. This track in previous games use to have 3 passing zones: turn 1, the final turn, and the 90-degree corner at the end of the back straight that they replaced with the hairpin. As a result of the hairpin they elemented passing at the end of the back straight, because it's too tight to race each other in, elementated passing in the final corner because it's no longer a braking zone, and eliminated passing in turn 1 because you can't follow anyone close enough out of the hairpin to make a pass in turn 1. I don't even want to ask what PD was thinking because they clearly weren't thinking at all.
There was a daily race B here several months ago that I was doing in the Ferrari. I kept getting oversteer on the hairpin exit but there was also 9+ m/s wind so I thought that was the issue. I guess the corner itself is just broken
I hate the hairpin. It's the ultimate Tilke design. "Extend the straight and put a hairpin. That'll force overtakes." Deep Forest has always been my favorite track in GT games, because it's just fun to drive and I always loved the final curve. Throwing your car full throttle into the banked left-hander always felt so good.
The hairpin is much easier when running in the normal direction. I brake late, make sure i'm in line to hit the bank of the turn at about 45mph or so. as soon as your back tires hit the bottom of the bank area you can accelerate thru.
It’s the fast sweeping kinks just before, that do me in. They make me think I can go faster than I actually can. The corner itself, why, that’s like strawberry jam to top it off.
my thoughts after seing your suzuki practice was that you always turned inn too early, and i know from own experience that even knowing you need to turn in later it is easier said than done. The times where slowing down and turning in late rather than trying to keep the minimum speed up mid corner is faster, is always so hard to wrap my head arround. To clarify my thoughs on the hairpin, i think it might be faster to slow down and stay to the left longer then get as much rotation done on the late turn in so you can aim for an extremely late apex. i dont own the game and cant test out my theory, so it might be completetely wrong.
I thought the worst turn was the downhill chicane on Laguna Seca, but when you pointed this one out, it brought back nightmares of trying to do the license tests. You're right... I'm not sure what it is about that turn, but it just feels weird. Maybe because it looks wider than it is, so most people tend to try to keep a more shallow turn to keep speed. It also looks like it dips and changes your grip a little in the middle of the turn.
Loved that battle.. the constant pressure! Pretty sure we all have at least one corner that we can never seem to get right. For me it's every corner on the circuit of Catalunya!
I don't like the hairpin because the hairpin totally destroys the flow of the circuit. I think there were better solutions to create a new overtaking opportunity at the end of the circuit.
Watching you makes me a better driver. Also not sure if you already have it or are interested but PSVR2 is magic with this game and a wheel. I find myself driving better in VR because I have a better sense of speed and where other drivers are around me.
On that inside overtake you had on turn 12. I know if I were Max, i would be slightly hesitant to slam the door shut as well. This being because i would more than half expect to get booted into the wall. Or spun. Of course if i knew it was you (trusted the other racers) i wouldnt be soo cautious.
An oddball turn to be sure, but maybe it's bit like the Suzuka hairpin where if you take a wider, longer line instead of hitting the apex, you can carry a bit more speed through the turn and get a better run on exit.
I started watching your videos and through these videos I managed to go through the threshold of the intimidating Sport mode. I started 2 months ago and I gotta say I have been having so much fun with online races, gladly, I've been going up the ranks! I come back everytime to see your videos since you're a very good driver... Also, recently I saw your karting videos and now I'm eager to try that aswell. Thank you Super GT, keep up the good content.
It's a horrible corner. I think there is a significant difference in grip across the track and it always feels like the dirty air effect is amplified at that corner. Coupled with the need to always drive defensively because of plonkers dive bombing from 1.5 seconds behind and it's just a perennial source of anxiety. I'm not a fan of the changes to the original GT cirsuits. They've been Herman Tilked.
It’s a really tricky corner you can see everyone else struggling with it too the line has to be so perfect through there or the setup for the turn is off
I actually found a bit of success with the Suzuki at the hairpin by.... Pulling the handbrake for that split second. It's stupid, I know, but it seems to work. 1:24.558
The worst part is that this new version of Deep Forest isn't really that bad, but this ONE last corner is just so fucking bad that it just ruins the rest of the track! So much that I make a point of avoiding racing on it altogether, even on the reverse layout where the corner isnt as cancerous to deal with. And I don't even understand why this corner is even there to begin with.
I'm currently mixed on that tight corner, i like it but at the same time it can be really annoying if you mess it up, especially in the reverse way for me.
I find that corner (and this track) challenging and very mysterious, sometimes I'm fast other times I can't take any turn correctly. Struggled a lot with consistency on this track, which I thought was apparent seeing everyone else online struggling lol. I agree with others it's nice to hear someone of your caliber struggling as well/might be helpful for us to see some more of those "mistakes" in videos. if im honest it feels very rewarding to get it right especially in the RSR, but I agree that the physics feel strange, like imagine a high speed hairpin??
The tight corner of high speed ring is way too steep of an angle . I think it a worst corner .Yes it is a bit tight .What if ? In reverse after the fact section there was a bridge and a longer loop corner that went 270 degrees ? Over and to the left .This hairpin being to the right .
The reverse layout of Deep Forest is fine except for this hairpin. I'm not really fond how it starts immediately after the left curve ends, it makes the approach and braking for the corner kind of unconventional and weird to me, idk
I do think the new hairpin makes deep forest a more robust and well rounded circuit, but I still miss the old version of the circuit to be honest. I really wish that PD had given us the option to do the tracks in both layouts with these redesigns. You could keep the new "competitive" layout in the game for close racing, and still add in the old configuration for old fans who want to drive the track the way it used to be, and it wouldn't take much extra effort at all. It really would only involve redoing a corner or two on each track. Similar to how Barcelona got the no chicane layout added later.
That last race was a really good fight, you're a stubborn git to try and overtake! 🤣

Good to hear it mate, thank you for the message. Have a great day.
I prefer the old layout. There was a rhythm to deep forest that I liked and that hairpin kills it (especially in reverse).
Agreed. The old layout in reverse had what I called nascar right. Now it’s awkward slow hairpin
Yeah the old corner out of the tunnel was the best corner on the track
@@samkwant4050 it’s PD they alway F something up, still we have grand valley they can’t ruin that circuit
Tbh that hairpin is easy to take on gr.3 cars
I think that hairpin is so hard because it's downhill and off camber. It's only semi manageable in the reverse version.
👌
Exactly, the angular momentum of being downhill takes grip away from the front tires.

The hairpin is o.k. in the normal direction. Absolutely the Devil's work in reverse.
This corner always feels like it just never rubbers in, like it's perpetually dusty
