  • A few drinks are enough to make it unsafe to drive.
    This drink drive TV ad tells us the story of a father whose daughter is killed when her boyfriend drives a car into the back of a truck.
    The boyfriend was drinking at a birthday before driving.
    This drink drive TV ad was launched by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) in the year 2000. In the year 2000, 407 people died on Victorian Roads.
    In 1989 the TAC launched a series of television commercials showing the tragic results of drink driving. This is when the well-known tagline - drink drive, bloody idiot - was born.
    A major aim of the TAC's drink driving advertising has been to emphasise the reality of being caught if you are over the limit and the severe penalties that follow.

    Whats amazing about this ad is that it shows you that you dont have to be completely drunk in order to kill someone after drinking and driving. Just "having a few" is enough.

    I do not understand why American audiences would be offended by this. This ad shows exactly what could happen if you drink and drive. This ad is meant to teach viewers NOT to drink and drive, and to see the consequences of drinking and driving.

    This is really well done. Over here in the Netherlands these kind of ads are always (*always*) given some kind of spin, be it humorous or "hip". I wish they would take example from this brilliantly acted and deeply touching ad. Not that the viewers would take any notice, though...

I told him I’ll just walk home before getting into that car because drunk driving isn’t ethical. I pointed out the odds of something bad happening may not be high but I’m not risking it. Called me a pussy for not getting in the car with him. I’m not putting my life at risk.

    • @samperson8397
      @samperson8397 4 года назад

      Actually, it’s not ironic. Irony applies to mainly ‘verbal irony’ and ‘situational irony’. Verbal irony happens when someone says something, but implies something else (like sarcasm). Situational irony happens when a reversal of expectations happens. Like if someone stumbles backwards to avoid a cigarette but fell into an incinerator. They would’ve attempted to avoid being burned a tiny bit, but ended up burning to death in the process.
      IRONY TAUGHT

    It is time that legislation is introduced for Automakers to install Alcohol detection interlock devices in all vehicles to prevent the starting of a vehicle. All vehicles should have this device, and the problem can be brought under control. Also legislation to tamper with such a device be a criminal offense. This move would end the carnage on the roads, and save people from getting a criminal record by not being able to operate a vehicle when drinking to begin with. If an Automaker can install six Airbags in a car, it can surely install a breathilzer interlock device....
