Lovely Video! Sorry for the intrusion, I would love your opinion. Have you considered - Millawdon Varied Nights Trick (do a google search)? It is a good one of a kind guide for learning intimate questions to make your relationship stronger without the normal expense. Ive heard some super things about it and my cooworker after a lifetime of fighting got cool results with it.

I took a class in federal prison called Criminal Behavior....it was based on irrational thought processes. It's actually quite amazing the psychology behind this stuff. I realized it's something everyone does...but you can't stop them...best to not even point them out. It's best to learn and understand them Yourself...so you can catch Yourself doing it...and stop it. I've tried explaining these irrational thought processes to others and it usually doesn't end well. I was talking to another inmate one day about why some people don't take it well when being told about their own irrational thoughts. He told me "Sometimes you can only clean up the trash on your side of the fence"
12 step program inspires me to seek my exact wrongs.n so I question what is a wrong.i find cognative errors I act thru leads me to instinctual collisions.i must pair up an improved conscious contact with power to awaken me.
What he said was in the Bible Matthew 7:3-5 NIV “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. 💯

It's important to notice that these cognitive distortions conflict with people's wants/needs/motivations/fears. Hence the emotional reaction. If the distortion was about something irrelevant to a person they would not care. Perhaps distortions form because of a hypersensitivity to a need or fear.
this is the worst part. my cognitive distortions attack everything I love the most. You would think my brain would want to HELP me reach my goals but instead it hinders them.
@@jinkieez If I understand you correctly, it's your need/demand to secure/attain that which you love that keeps your brain looking for certainty of never loosing it. My mind does similar things. The solution is to realize that demanding certainty is an unrealistic expectation.

I'm so glad I came across this vid! I've been struggling with this problem for years. I grew a lot over last year during the spring/summer, but then the thoughts started to come back recently around November. I have been trying to figure out what it was for so long and know I can address it to my therapist. Thank you!
My psychologist also suggested I research this and I’m pretty mind blown. It’s nice to hear certain ways of thinking put into these types of words; makes for a better understanding of what’s going on in my noggin.
Wow.......i have ALL 5! Its been there since childhood and really started affecting my life in severely negative way about 7 yrs ago. Its absolutely HORRIBLE to live like this everyday!
Add the 'Zero Sum Gain' fallacy: Someone compliments my kid on being so beautiful so that must mean they don't think I am beautiful or my sister got invited to go to the beach with one of her friends (who I don't even know) but nobody invited me to go anywhere so that must mean nobody wants my company.
This was incredibly helpful! I appreciate the way you gave such clear and concise explanations as well as relatable examples without the addition of the more clinical jargon filled language we often see used by professionals.
I am definitely in all these categories Especially feeling like if someone is late, they are dead, or in an accident, or if I live with the door unlocked once, I will get killed. If I miss taking medication I will die.
It's really hard for me sometime to see a clear difference between emotional reasoning and fortune telling. In the former case, you feel something and make a prediction. In the latter case, you see something, have an emotional reaction, then make a prediction. It seems to me the only difference is that fortune telling involves an empirical observation.
I have many acquaintances who have tendency to be overwhelmed all the time. It may be their Job, Family something as common as that. What psychology does it signify? Any comment?
Cognitive distortions are exaggerated and irrational thoughts of pattern. These thoughts are mostly negative. If not treated timely they may lead to serious mental illnesses like depression, anxiety, substance abuse etc.
This is informative and helps you think positive. Thanks I have a query. We come across people who break our trust easily and after that point, we start depending upon our gut feelings to avoid being hurt or fooled again. Some people are not honest with you and fake friend you, and ignore you when you need them, later they make excuses about being busy. So there are certain kinds of lessons that make us too over analytical for the fear of being a victim again. How different is this defence mechanism of going by your gut feelings against cognitive distortions? Pls explain. Thanks :)
All or nothing you see things binarily: Black/white, good/bad, loved/hated. Catastrophizing is when you are imagining outcomes to result in only failure, embarrassment or disaster.
Yeah I can't do mind reading, but then based on what am I supposed to guage how well I'm doing in a social setting? I want a solid, common sense standard that can be spelled out to me so that I stop needing to worry about these things God not having enough information really makes me paralyzed and absolutely dumbed out
What about the delusional thinking of you’re being watched, my mind always drifts to that type of thinking without any effort. It’s probably a coping mechanism I picked up as a child, now it’s constantly there, It’s like a ghost is watching me in the back of my mind all the time but the ghost can change to anyone, alive or dead. I guess if I notice it more I could try to tell myself don’t do that. I use to cope with that delusional thinking by saying no one cares, so now I have this voice that pops in my head that says no one cares, which isn’t great. Even writing on RUclips is strangely therapeutic in a weird way when I see no one responds, I feel better when I feel alone, even though that is the cause of my problem in the first place. So, that causes me to be in a cycle of unhealthy thinking. Also, it’s just therapeutic to have a different perspective looking at myself, so most of the time it’s a good thing, so maybe I shouldn’t complain, its just it is always there. Always in the back of my mind I feel like someone is there caring about what I’m doing. I mean it’s been a problem or it use to be more of a problem. My dad is an extremely antisocial person, so I’ve learned that avoiding people was normal. Another unhealthy thing is I rely on this alter perspective too much, so now a part of me is like, oh I don’t actually need anyone in my life, because they’re all up here in my head and that’s kind of nice. It’s hard to brake these habits because I’ve gotten so comfortable with it. This delusional thinking can be both helpful and hurtful, so I don’t think I can completely let it go, I can only avoid the more negative aspects of it. I mean people use this type of thinking all the time, an all seeing God to correct peoples bad behaviors. Like the 12 step program it’s just away to look outside yourself it’s just more helpful if that person looking back is forgiving and kind. I see a picture and I get a perspective of what that person is thinking of me, but at the end of day they can’t really see me so there is absolutely no risk involved. Is the internet just this place where people can pick and choose what personalities to be stored in their memory banks without the risk of have another person dislike you? I just like a little bit of attention, because anything else doesn’t feel real or deserved.
Catastrophizing is a cognitive distortion so maybe Romanticizing is another one. What would you call it when a person thinks things can never go wrong?
my wife thinks my parents hate her , say if a conversation going on in my home , she takes it on herself , she thinks that they are talking about her indirectly , when its not , i dont understand what to do .

2. It could quite literally all be positive but your brain will want you to constantly prove it over and over.

What did you do?
Very insightful comment. Thank you for this.

I'm so sick of thoughts.
Me too
I feel you. I feel like life would be simpler if my mind wasn’t racing all the time.

For your sake I hope that's NOT true!
Thoughts are a part of living (Being Alive). If your sick of one then you are sick of the other!!
Saving my A level psychology one video at a time!
I'm so glad I came across this vid! I've been struggling with this problem for years. I grew a lot over last year during the spring/summer, but then the thoughts started to come back recently around November. I have been trying to figure out what it was for so long and know I can address it to my therapist. Thank you!
This blows my mind 😮 never thought that there’s such a thing
I literally experience this way of thinking
Superb. I met a therapist and he asked me to look up C D. Great explanation.
My psychologist also suggested I research this and I’m pretty mind blown. It’s nice to hear certain ways of thinking put into these types of words; makes for a better understanding of what’s going on in my noggin.
Same! This explains my thought processes so much 😭😭
Wow.......i have ALL 5! Its been there since childhood and really started affecting my life in severely negative way about 7 yrs ago. Its absolutely HORRIBLE to live like this everyday!
Very simply explained and easy to understand. Thank you for this video.
Add the 'Zero Sum Gain' fallacy:
Someone compliments my kid on being so beautiful so that must mean they don't think I am beautiful or my sister got invited to go to the beach with one of her friends (who I don't even know) but nobody invited me to go anywhere so that must mean nobody wants my company.
Absolutely, an amazing job. I am in a master's program learning more and you have explained this quite well. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I behave like this because of my experiences proving me right
What if that's called self-fulfilling prophecy
Such information will definitely eliminate people's negativity and correct their behavior.
I got this disqualifying the positive mixed with the all or nothing, real eye opener
This was incredibly helpful! I appreciate the way you gave such clear and concise explanations as well as relatable examples without the addition of the more clinical jargon filled language we often see used by professionals.
May be a series on how each cognitive distortion may be challenged? For each case, what may be done in principle followed up by examples?
Thank you for the feedback!
I am definitely in all these categories Especially feeling like if someone is late, they are dead, or in an accident, or if I live with the door unlocked once, I will get killed. If I miss taking medication I will die.
Good video,
It's responding to them that's a huge problem
i have all of these and it’s so extreme

You saved my Life !!!
This is a wonderful explanation of cognitive distortions, and the examples are helpful.
This video was so helpful !!!! Thank you !!!
It would have been interesting if this also covered the other cognitive distortions that are much more negative, such as minimising, denial etc.
I want to learn this therapy .
Excellent breakdown, thanks!
Very helpful, and great examples!
Thanks I am a phobia of cognitive distortio.
Can you have cognitive thoughts about a past experience? That you are stuck in that past thing?
Yes, this may also lead to feeling sad/depressed.
Well done. Simply stated and easy to understand. Wish I knew this as a child, would have skipped years of self imposed turmoil. 😁
Great video ⭐🏆
Thank you!
Greatttt I loved, helped me so much with an work I had to do
Really like these videos, keep em coming!
Higher the expectations, higher the distortions plus stressed life
Very well articulated
I have all of them so frequent and intense
great video, thanks!
What would be a good example of challenging those beliefs??
My doctor told me to look this up

Thought this was normal . This is 24/7 for me .
I kinda got into each one of them...
Nice video 🙂👍 I'm subscribe
When you realize you do all of these... I'm cooked
Thanku
Amazing video !!
So is Cognitive Distortions the same as Anxiety which causes panic attacks that makes you scared all of a sudden and have no idea why?
This is so ❤❤❤
I have many acquaintances who have tendency to be overwhelmed all the time. It may be their Job, Family something as common as that. What psychology does it signify? Any comment?

Do you have another video for the remaining 5 cognitive distortions?
Cute therapist and what not :)
If someone has all of that, what does that mean?
What’s the difference between all or nothing and catastrophising ?
All or nothing you see things binarily: Black/white, good/bad, loved/hated. Catastrophizing is when you are imagining outcomes to result in only failure, embarrassment or disaster.
Elliot Rodger’s manifesto, “My Twisted World” did a lot of this.
