Possibly the best King Diamond song. I'm glad you're continuing with the 'Them' story. You won't be disappointed if you keep going...unless you like happy endings...well, sort of.

In King's concept for the Conspiracy tour, the line "show your powers onto me" was the cue for King to be lifted into the air by "THEM" (actually a harness picking him up onstage).
This song is like eating a candy that changes its flavor, layer after layer. Delicious and intense.
The music in the beginning always gives me "creepy carnival" vibes, so I'm glad you kind of picked up on the vibe there. This song is a favorite for a lot of King Diamond fans, and I think a lot of it is due to all the change ups you've noted. As you mention, there is really no predicting where a KD song is about to go. They do an amazing job making songs that might seem to have some unharmonious, discordant elements, yet it still all comes together to make a song that sounds perfect.
As far as the story... This is just really setting the scene for the Conspiracy album. King Diamond (as the character in the song) is all grown up and has returned to the manor house. He has questions that he feels only his sister Missy can answer. As the song goes on, you will see more characters from the last album make appearances here including King's mom, and the psychiatrist Dr. Landau (that first committed King to the asylum near the end of the Them album. I can't say any more without risking spoilers. Just know you're in for a ride with this album!! Thanks, Randi for checking this out, and I'm glad you enjoyed another KD song!!

Yeah, you started Conspiracy. For me, I like to use my imagination with the music to imagine what is going on along with the dialogue. This is achieved easier by already knowing what the story is. Watching you listening to this for the first time reminds me of what I forgot, which is was it was like to hear it for the first time. It's so much easier if you listen to the album threw out instead of breaking up song by song. But we really appreciate you doing this. Watching somebody else dissect this music that I love offers a different perspective that I find interesting. Thanks again and hopefully you won't have any sleepless nights...👀
She has a reaction to the live version of Sleepless Nights on her channel. I had recommended it right after she finished the Abigail album, so she could see they sound just as good live. I've already recommended the lyrics version for her next reaction so she can get a chance to know the lyrics before continuing the Conspiracy album/story.
Agreed though... Its so fun to watch people experience KD's albums for the first time. I wish more reaction channels would give King a chance! 🤘

15:36 "Afterward" technically, though "afterwards" is pretty common. Not to be confused with the noun "afterword," which sounds very similar.
That inro out me in mind of walking home alone at 2am, and the only way back is through a fairground. Motionless and silent, black as the night itself. And the very gentle night breezes cause some of the rides to move slightly, in turn setting of some of the sounds to go with the various rides. No loudly, there's no power connected to it, but loud enough to get your imagination running a mock, raising your heart rate, and making you breathless too. Every horror story ever heard comes to life in that moment, giving that feeling of pending eternal doom. Where those spirits from the foulest of your nightmares will come for you, clawing and scratching at your soul, laying claim to the right they have to your everlasting soul, as a subscriber to darkness, and all the soft deceptions it gives that its own existence is all lies, and make believe. Wow, that just the 1st few seconds. After the music takes over from that intro, we're led into another false sense of security with those beautiful heavy melodies, the carry us into another scene of horror in nightmare proportions as the dead are summoned from the grave take walk again. Not just any dead, but those dark and hateful spirits whose aims are the steal, kill and destroy.
The music alone is a big feature, with so many changes from fast to slower, high and low, exciting, and mellow moods all expressed, there's quite the journey to be experienced. But add he lyrics, and that King's specific styles of delivering them, that journey moves away from a movement of fantasy to the inner workings of the heart of the blackest of night terrors there is.
No complaints here then. Pure fascination, and enjoyments. The latter enhanced by the inclusion on some of the loveliest kids alive. What makes them so adorable? Well, lats start with pure, undefiled by adult interference, not corrupted by evils in society, kept away from malice, and still young enough to be totally natural.
STILL waiting for our twin grandkids to put in an appearance. A very precious bought me a beer for a celebratory drink on there arrival. And it' calls me every time I get close to the fridge... LOL I'll have to tell our mum 2 B to push harder... Hehehe
Nice one Chase. What I love about KD is the unpredictability. We all know that a lot bands, even those we love are far too predictable. But not with these, clearly the fruit of a clear thinking intelligent mind. take care my friend.

I totally agree that their unpredictability is one of the things that sets them apart from, if not above, most other metal bands. You hear that occasional short melody and recognize it from another King Diamond song, but then its gone and something totally new takes its place. As we continue the storyline from the last album with the songs on the "Conspiracy" album, it becomes a very captivating journey. These 2 albums together would make for an amazing movie. In fact, they may be even more suited than the other albums, but I will let you make up your mind when this is done. Lots of twists and turns are still to come here.
I'll be crossing my fingers that your grandkids make their appearance soon, if not for you, then for their poor mother's sake! She's got to be wanting to get this part over already! LOL Take care my friend!!

different voices are different characters in the story . there are dead relatives there, and he, as well as the spirits who took over the house, whom he calls "they". this is a continuation of the previous album and all the songs should be listened to in order, then the whole picture of the narrative will take shape.
It is possible when you're a metalhead.
