I've trained aikido for 25 years. this MIGHT work against a push but nobody is ever going to punch and leave an arm hanging. If this is meant to be a drill to show moving off line of attack, say so, do not pretend its a drill against a strike.

This is where alot of misconception both practitioner and non practitioner, i too learn aikido for 19 years and various other art, i can personally said all traditional art 's technique and waza are meant for dojo training to understand the body mechanics and inner meaning of the traditional moves. Its by no means a combat art, without actual sparing throw in your training and any sort of resistive training even muay thai or bjj is useless in real world, if u only punching sand bag. We need to change our mentality of seeing a waze demo dont judge it works or not in real world but rather can u make any art u learned, works ? Basically down to your training method not the art itself. U are the determine factor.

@ Aikido has been devolving for the past 4 decades mainly due to training methods. My job involves suing arest and control every day, and i can attest that training like this isnt optimal. Go look at Dunken Francis sensei or leo tamaki

@@CarlaCasteneda oh dear... aikido teaches to be kind to each other, does it not? This is just a demonstration exemplifying how a certain posture can be compromised to one's advantage. Please don't argue - one takes from Aikido whatever one focuses on.
