They are a top 5 team in the league, easy. The idea that they won't be a contender is ignorant, and silly. On any given night they have 3 of the top 10 players in the league, and the best player on the ice at nearly all times. They have solid goaltending. They are top heavy sure, but if things break right for them they are icing a team of Landy- MacK- Rants - Mittel- Drouin- Nuke- Lehky- Logan- Colton. That's a top 9 comparable to when they won the cup. That depth is sick. The top 4 defense is fine. The weakness is 4th line fill-ins which they will get some at the deadline cheap. This team is going places if they remain healthy, which is the complaint every year. If the guys are available, they are not only a contender but a favorite. If they aren't then they lose. Remember Kadri prior to the cup run? He kept getting suspended and wasn't available. When we were whole, we won. It's the same with this team- we either have everyone available and run train on literally every team in the league, or we bow out due to injuries/suspensions in the 2nd round. If nuke and landy are available, this team is the favorite.

Casey Mitts is gonna have a career year in his first full season with the team. Drouin is gonna post another career year. We get LOC back. Kovalenko is in people’s chances for Calder. I think we go, strike out a third time and your out, so Nuke will be back and we know how he plays but this is his last chance. And then landy, I mean if we get him back that’s just a bonus. If we have Nuke and Landy back and let’s just say landy is 80% of what he was production wise, we’re gonna be in a situation of well shit, who do we have to scratch or send down or whatever. And our goalie situation….kinda baffles me cuz it’s better than last year with annunen being the for sure backup and gonna get more playing time. So I think our goalie situation is better than last year overall. And I honestly think if nuke didn’t get suspended, we beat Dallas. I donno, I think we are better this year than last. I'm not a fan of some of the clickbait the Hockey Writers put out. I've read many of their articles about the Avs wondering how on earth they came to their opinions. I think the Avs contention hopes this year will rest a lot on whether Landy comes back and what happens with Nuke though. Either way, I like their hopes of making playoffs. Wow, I think the Toews contract is a bargain. He's arguably about the 15th? best defenseman in the league. And in 7 years time if the cap goes up then I still think it'll be looking pretty good.
If Mac or Mikko get injured for any significant amount of time, this team can't recover. Both have been mostly injury free for the last 2 yrs and it still wasn't enough.
I maintain my opinion that this is just a regular season team. The league fears Mackinnon/Makar, not the Avalanche as whole. It took balance in '22 to get past round 2. Avalanche NOW are literally the smallest one trick pony in the league, solely reliant on their stars. It's all about offense only and when they can't score they're garbage because they refuse to defend. Want goalies to be better? Should have gotten bigger/stronger/better guys to put in front of them. They have no defense (scoring is not defending), they have Josh Manson as the only guy willing to do what it takes to be a defender. Bunch of soft marshmallows on the back end that won't ever defend strong enough to beat a team like Florida Panthers. Florida is set up for multiple runs bc their GM UNDERSTANDS how to construct an NHL playoff team that can meet the physical demands of playoffs. And finally, I told you Girard's contract was garbage. Pathetic production from an offensive dman for the amount he's receiving. All he can do is pass the puck, nothing else. Could have gotten 2 bigger true defenders for his contract and actually become contenders. It's no wonder no the Avs can't trade him, they can't find any takers who want tiny dman.
