  • This is one of my two ReVox A77 MK III from 1972 (it´s not an MK II like I told you in the video - sorry!).
    You will find more information abot the A77-versions on this very interesting website: www.theimann.com/Analog/A77/Ve...
    If you wanna know the age of your A77, take the serial number from the backside of the recorder and visit my website: www.studerundrevox.de/revox/r...
    There is a special list and a lot more information about nearly all ReVox devices!

    I love this video all the other videos are boring long and most of all it’s a repair video. This is just a beautiful view of the taperecorder and I love it. I’m going to pick a a77 up Saturday

    At last I bought one of these at a radio rally recently. The quality of build is even better than I expected. Hats off to Mr Studer!! Great video, by the way.

    Excellent video, thank you. I love my A77 Mk II, which I bought new in 1972. It has been in storage for many years now, though, so I have put it up for sale, but having seen your video I think I am going to keep it! I have the high-speed two-track and used it for playing and reviewing rough mixdown tapes from the studio when I was a producer. Awesome sound at 15 ips!

    Es ist schon erstaunlich, in welch hervorragendem Zustand diese inzwischen 38 Jahre alte Maschine ist. Da kann man nur gratulieren, auch für die gute Pflege.
    Danke für das interessante Video.

    Seen and heard one in Crailsheim Deutschland Europa. Wonderful machines, many prefer the A77 over the later B77.

    If I am not mistaken, the Can albums between 1968-1974 were all recorded using two Revox A-77 Mk I deck synchronized together. On the first CD issue of Can's "Delay 68" there is an A-77 sitting behind Holger Czukay.

    For information: The Rock Band "The Who" used this machine at their concerts.
    I think it was in 1972, I attended a concert in Memphis. This concert ran about three hours. During one of the breaks, the drummer played accompanied by this ReVox machine. I suspect that it was a two track, possibly 7.5/15 ips. I think the drummer was Keith Moon. Fantastic show but very LOUD.

      Swinde Thank you for the information! I didnt know that The Who also was a user of the A77! :-)
      Did you know, that Pink Floyd used the A77 to record and cut all the cash-sounds for the track "Money" on the "Dark side of the moon" album? ;-)

    @technikfans thanks for the info man, I heard the tube mic preamps in it are good for recording...you think i should keep it just for that? I also just got a panasonic reel to reel and an akai m-8 reel to reel as well....do you know anything about those?

    Dad passed away a year ago, and he had an A77 which I am sure has not been used in 25 years or more. It probably hadn't been used more than 50 hours. In setting it up again for the first time, what should I watch out for in terms of things not working properly after all these years?

  • @shutdownthefed

    @technikfans oh shit my bad, it was the akai m-8 that has the tube pre-amps. How much should I sell the a77 for? Its perfect condition and works perfect

    Did you know the infamous A77 was the only ReVox/ Studer deck that had the highest sales volume over any other model ? In fact the A77 sales volume was the highest of any other RTR deck ever created.

    • @technikfans
      @technikfans  8 месяцев назад

      Yes, I knew that! Over 350,000 units of the ReVox A77 were sold. The device was simply the best at the time and is still very good and technically almost perfect today.

    • @dubdoodle7191
      @dubdoodle7191 8 месяцев назад

      @@technikfansI wouldn't say technically perfect today. The tape start is too abrupt and has too much stress on the tape. There should be a moving tension guide on the right also. The silver face vu meters are very poor quality, whereas the dark face vu's are far superior.

    • @technikfans
      @technikfans  7 месяцев назад

      The discussion about the moving tension guide on the right side is probably as old as the ReVox A77 itself. ;-) Nevertheless, there were certainly very good reasons why the engineers decided against it at the time.

  • @shutdownthefed

    Seems like same problem with auto stop. I think problem is not light in the room but burn-out of the element from age. Photoresistors and photodiodes won't live longer then 10-15 years.

      Hallo Mr. Computerfan! Danke für den Kommentar! Das ist mit der Musik ist in sofern schwierig zu sagen, da ich den Interpret und Titel konkret nicht weiß. Ich kann Dir aber sagen, dass die Musik auf dem Band ein Audiomitschnitt der "BR Space Night" aus dem Fernsehen ist. Es handelt sich um die Folge "Earth Views 6 - 7" die Du hier auch bei RUclips findest - siehe folgender Link:

      +Adrian Braun Das kannst Du gerne tun, nur sind beide Hersteller überhaupt nicht miteinander zu vergleichen. Weder in der Audio- noch in der Verarbeitungsqualität und Langlebigkeit. Zumindest nicht bei den Philips Consumer-Produkten. Was anderes wäre es bei den Profi-Geräten von Philips... Ich kann mir aber nicht vorstellen, dass Du die gemeint hast, oder?

    Why are you playing in the IEC position? The A77 records according to the NAB standard.

    • @technikfans
      @technikfans  7 лет назад +1

      I think I did it, because the replay of the tape sounds better in this position. It´s maybe also possible, that the tape was recorded on CCIR on my STUDER tape recorder at this time - I can´t tell you now... The video is already 7 years old. ;-)

    Nothing wrong with the a77, if you have good tape and calibrate it in a good way, you can't hear the difference between a cd and the tape........... so. yes you can make mastertapes with it.
