Hoi An Vietnam is amazingly beautiful at night, but you do need to be mindful of overpaying for activities as a tourist. Even if we paid a little too much, it was still a wonderful night to remember! ❤😊🇻🇳
The lesson learned was to buy your tickets for the boat separately. We now know the lady who seemed nice and helpful was just adding on an additional fee for herself, and she didn't really work for the ticket office....we still had a great experience anyway and understand scams happen in every country! It was still a reasonable price by USA price standards and was an enjoyableexperience! ❤😊🇻🇳
The regular price for the boat ride is 150 k each for adults and half price for children under 1m high ( the price list is posted at the boat station ) . The price she charged you ( 500k) was a fair price ( 300 k of 2 adults and 150 k for your 2 kids and 10 k for each floating candle ) . That price is set by the Hoi An authorities . Whoever overcharges the tourists would be heavily fined and could lose his permit in case someone made a complaint . FYI when all the boat rides are finished ( after 9h30 pm ) a cleaner team will pick-up all the lanterns on the river for recycling . Otherwise after all those years that tiny river would be full of paper trashes and no boat could ever navigate on it . The majority of the street vendors , Cyclo drivers or boat rowers in HA are coming from the countryside so their foreign language knowledge is very limited . So don't expect them to understand fully what you say . Before the tourism boom in HA they were farmers , fishermen , masons , local market vendors , etc...and never needed to learn foreign languages ( especially Western languages ) . It 's a good thing for the tourists to find so many vendors selling the same merchandises or food because with that competition they can negotiate for the best price ( like you did ). There is no monopoly like in the West where you have to pay the price they want to charge you ( take it or leave it ! no bargaining ! ) . Vietnam is actually the most affordable country with a very good quality/price ratio for foreigners .
Thank you for sharing this important information!❤️ It's really helpful to have the context for how things work in Hoi An. She collected 300k up front and then took us to the boat counter which we the paid $200k for 4 tickets. She actually said $800k at first and we negotiated down to $500k which was definitely too much considering we basically just got the paper lanterns from her. Regardless if we overpaid or not we had a great time there! ❤️☺️
We felt like it was an inflated price at the time but were too in a rush to ask other people what a fair price was. We should have paid for the tickets and the lanterns separately. The lady seemed nice, but she was pretending to work for the ticket stand which she obviously did not. Lesson learned...

Love all the beautiful lanterns at night!🥰 Not many choices on the street food though...
@momlifefoodandtravel4376 Unfortunately, the street food was repetitive and not that exciting...
Bạn có đang giảm cân không 😂😂❤
I don't think so with trying all the food and drinks we can!🤣

Yes the whole frog! 🐸Didn't look the most appetizing to us personally 🤣
@@WorldFamilyExplorers The only Westerners who love to eat frogs are the French .
