The History - Over 12 years ago, I was the first person to ever use the song "23" in a Smallville video and posted it on Kryptonsite.com. It seemed like the perfect song to capture Clark's journey on the show. The video gained a lot of notoriety/acclaim on the site. So every few years I'd get a ton of requests to make updated versions to follow the course of the show. The last time I updated it was in season 8.
Now - So all these years later, here is the final definitive version of Journey. It has material from all ten seasons of the show and is available in HD. In a way, this also symbolizes my own journey as an editor and as a Smallville fan. Please remember to comment and subscribe. Thanks!

Thanks man! Glad that you enjoy it so much. A lot of my videos used to have a ton of views. A few even had a million plus. However, years ago YT used to be really strict with copyright infringement and a ton of my accounts were shut down. So now on this account, a lot of the videos don't have that many views.

I miss this show so much, no other superhero show can or will ever compare. Smallville paved the way for all the superhero shows that are currently on, yet I feel like it still outshines them all.
I was one of the original Smallville vidders and fans on the Ksite boards since 01. Saw every episode when originally aired on the WB and then CW.
So I fully get loving and supporting the show. But I do feel like Smallville was a victim of horrible writing and bad continuity as time went on.
Plus 10 seasons was WAY too long. I mean the show was originally intended to be about Clark's life before Superman. So Lois, the Daily Planet, and all the other Superman villains shouldn't have been on the show. I think four years of high school and a few years of college ending with him finally meeting Lois and starting a DP internship would have been good enough. Also I HATED how they handled flight.
@@ryandeffley7652 surely bad write. The first 3 season are the best, even cause they are easy, and haven't too much ambitions, after that the show start to get bad, for many reason, S4 is too dumb cause of the "lanacentrism" all the witch things, S5 have again a "lanacentrism" with Lex looking like a teen around lana, from S6 to S10 we have just many others problems, superlana, darkseid, as you say, they kept it for too long, and also make lana too much important.
@@ryandeffley7652 btw, today show are bad written too, even if less "teen" material, and so more realistic. Also smallville have insane potential, if it was well written, it would had been awesome, with same cast, and the same "heart", way better than all the show of today, they all lack the heart, like almost everything today .

I've read words like corny and cheesy but the fact is Smallville was ahead of its time. Superman doesn't have to change to fit in the world, he's always been strong enough to survive his own history. This show is the standard that all other superhero shows are based on, you don't stay on television 10 years by accident or oversight.
Best of all time but darn it all do gotham put cgi his face on to the suit I as fan that hurts

Smallvilles Clark never wore the shout on camera that is in the last episode of the show just cgi of him in the distance where it reseambles him same with Gotham but they had a reason show was getting canceled before the actor was the age to play Batman

I know a lot of people don’t like it the superhero origin shows but I personally love both Smallville and Gotham. Smallville is one of my favorite shows of all time and I’m really hoping we get Smallville the animated series or something like that!

23 is such a perfect song to use for a Smallville tribute vid. Really encapsulates the years that went by in that show, how we watched Clark Kent the unsure farm boy grow into Clark Kent the heroic Superman
It's interesting because back when I released the first version, after Smallville first started airing, no one even really knew the song.
So I like to think I played a part in introducing the song to the masses back then. Smallville was such a popular show, especially in S1-S3. That's why the combo of the show and song really took off.
It's just a shame that YT was so strict such copyright infringement for so many years. I had so many accounts closed down over the years that I lost a lot of views on my videos. LOL
I have the first three seasons of Smallville on DVD and every so often I'll put them on and binge watch, I really will have to shop around and get the other seven seasons I just don't know why I didn't get them already, Remy Zero's Save Me always gives me chills when I hear it as Smallville starts....
The entire series (all 10 seasons) is on Hulu.
i’m back watching this video years after my Smallville phase and it still gives me goosebumps and makes me teary-eyed. i still think you made this perfectly and placed the clips in the best spots for the song.
All those years ago I would spend hours on RUclips watching different Smallville videos. But when I came across 23 by Ryan Deffley it just was so amazing..I saved it to my computer back then and sent it to every phone I've had as the years progressed it's 2016 and I still have it on my iPhone 6s..its just something about it that takes me back to those good all Smallville days. Imma always hold on to Smallville. Started the show when I was 12 and I'm 27 now lol

That was done in the Crisis Arrowverse event. He gave up being Superman to be a farmer and raise kids with Lois. 😆
I came across your first version of this video years and years ago when I first got on RUclips. That video showed me what RUclips could be: an incredible medium for creative fans to showcase their talents and share their creations with other fans. To me, your 23 video sets the standard for fan films.

Love that I could find this so many years later. One of the absolute best fan videos ever. The last time I saw it was 10 years ago & I still remembered enough to be able to search for it now.

Initially I was kind of skeptical. In S1 he was 24 trying to pass as 14. 🤣 Plus he had a modeling background with limited acting experience. But Welling really did grow into the role over the series.👍

But I loved it, didn't even know of him till then tbh , thought the progression of clark was excellent, and yeah he really grew into that role like you said.

I'm one of the original OG fans. Saw every episode live on TV from when it premiered on the WB in 2001. Was also a founding member on Kryptonsite and one of the original vidders for the show.
I had to keep putting out new versions of Journey because I'd update it every few years. Never imagined the show would go 10 seasons. 🤣 Even now I want to make another version of this but I had to walk away from it.

@@TanCoyer - Glad you've enjoyed my vids that you've seen. I used to have WAY more but YT kept closing my accounts down over the years due to copyright. Then the drives I kept stuff on crashed.
Superman and Lois is like junk food. It may look good on the surface and even satisfy you short term from time to time. But it's kind of boring and doesn't have a lot of substance IMO.
Also I've never seen a Superman be physically bested or need help as much as this one. 🤣 Plus you can tell the show pushes a strong feminist narrative. There was one scene where Clark as Superman actually asks Lois how to handle a situation. Superman should never need his wife's permission to be the Man of Steel.
Lois and Clark was a great show because Lois was strong and independent. But she was super feminine and vulnerable with Clark/Superman. She never saw them as "equals" because he's Superman.

It's a shame I haven't watched that final episode live in 2011. Sadly, I only discovered Smallville after it ended and I loved it. Watched it three times from start to finish over these years.
This song and show has such a special place in my heart. Not just cause he is my favorite superhero but I got out of school in 01. I started working at my in August of 01. I been through a lot at my job. I was treated real bad there but I held on. Clark journey was my very own journey with God and myself. When the show ended so did my hour at from a young 19 year old to a 29 year old who met my louis lane just a month after the finale. God open the doors for me to let my wife and 11 months later on May 2012 we were married. Still married to this day. During those ten years i met my lana and I lost my grandma around the same time Clark dad died in smallville season 5. Clark pain during that time was my own. I have never felt more closer to a fictional character on a show like I do Tom welling Clark kent!!!!!!!!!

There is something I feel that I can't express it in words while watching this but all I can say is this video perfectly described the whole series and the character of clark. i absolutely love smallville in my opinion the first 7 seasons were the best then is sort of felt allot different for me

I actually think the show went downhill starting in S5. They brought Clana back when they should've stayed friends, they created the Clark/Lex/Lana soap opera, they killed off JK, etc.. Then S6 was non stop angst and soap opera, and S7 was boring with Clark/Lana playing house and Kara. S8-S10 improved slightly, but I still think the show went on for way too many seasons.
Changes I'd make earlier - Clark stays in glasses after Whisper. Clark/Lana date all of season three and she learns the truth then leaving for Paris because of it. Then S4 - Chloe stays dead, Lois comes in to catch her killer and ultimately joins the Torch to honor Chloe with her/Clark working on stories together. Lana comes back being Clark's new 'Pete" and they stay friends. Lex kills Lionel in struggle for the stones and Lexcorp is born. Clark gets a flight episode tied into his 18th bday.
Then S5 is the final season. Clark/Lois at Met U taking J101 with Perry White. He gets them internships because he owes Clark one. He begins to slowly "Blur". Lucas comes back to help Lex run L33.1. Clark/Lex drift more and more. JK stays alive.Then the series finale goes between present and future foreshadowing. Lex learns the truth and Jor-El sends Clark back in time to prevent the bridge accident. They never meet/become friends in the first place. Only Clark is left with the memory of it. Finale ends with Clark/Johnathan reflecting in the loft five years later to tie into the Pilot. Then a few years later we get a "Metropolis" TV movie in the Superman universe.
@@ryandeffley7652 nice, but i wouldn't cancel the fact that clark and lex are friends, plus it's not possible the way you say. Clark would be back in time like in S5 in the episode that lana die? Then he would revive the whole 5 years, and this is gonna change too much things, or being too weird however. If he go back in time and doesn't "take the place" of himself, he will just create 2 different timelines, in the new one clark, doesn't know about lex, if he is just able to go back, prevent the accident, and return in the future, without a new timeline, this will however create a paradox, so no, no way.
S8-S10 were different, but I Think different was good. The show became more mature. S9 might be might favorite

So many memories 😏 can't lie this show helped me wit alot ... Actually being adopted ... Feeling outta place not knowing what I should do or not do In the end it was just about embracing who you are deep down not who you wish to be .. "your destiny"

@@xSnappa - BTVS is actually one of my all time favorite shows. I've made a ton of videos for it. Many were lost on old hard drives that crashed.
But I have a few uploaded on my YT account here. A few for Spike/Buffy, a few for Buffy/Angel, and a solo one on Buffy herself.

Great job that's awesome! I love Smallville one of the best super hero shows ever made in my opinion. I actually am rewatching the show currently. Because I love it and I just recently got the Blu-ray series box set. Smallville is so awesome it's cool seeing how he whent from a teenager trying to be normal. To being one of the greatest super heroes of all time.

I remember seeing the original so long ago, and I remember when the season 8 one came out. I believe I was padfootsgurl8179 back then, lol. This video made me emotional because of how long I've been waiting to see this one. I only happened to come across it by chance. I still love how Clark was about 23 years old during season 10 when he finally became Superman.

Holy Shit! I remember when I joined KSite circa 2008 a year after Smallville premiered and Journey Re-made was the one I saw (you had your initials in the bottom right, and the one i saw was the conversation between TW and CR, and TW would say....Why me? CR responds You won't find the answer looking to the stars, it's a Journey you will find looking into yourself ) , this version right here however shows all the best scenes that captured this great show. I am like him due with all respect its ok to be when being raised here all rich suburb schools treated exactly normal defended my friends it was emberasment but half of us worked a born leader on the edge my future will be ready win work hard mature alot young people from rich care about money yes im different help others adulthood woman may think or rich at poor should respect me but care and cherish no discriminate what is important money or passion tons adults like me would change people ask them how busy is life would be insecure when most people should give support to one another independent figure what is an open mind as anyone else wake up young rich kids time to respect as many ethnicities because some like to party and hang out soon enough as colleges came in im the one saving lives home town false information
