I like to toast my bagels but then let them cool down by 80% so the cream cheese doesn't melt, same thing with toasted bread and mayo. I'm a big fan of the sesame or everything bagel with the cream cheese, strawberry jelly combo. Try the Stonewall Kitchen Hot Pepper jelly, its a game changer.

I toast an everything bagel but let it cool down before putting chive cream cheese and then tomatoes, salami and a pickle on the side.
As for Smörgåsbord, or "Schmoargoesboard" as the American say it; it isn't only pronounced nothing alike, but it also has quite a simple origin: In Sweden we don't eat warm/cooked breakfast. We mainly eat bread with a variety of toppings (alongside filmjölk and coffee). It directly translates to "Sandwich table" - which in turn could refer to "regular Swedish breakfast". It's nice that it has some kind of luxury tang to it in USA.

I used to not like bagels because I grew up on those store bought, packaged varieties. Good bagels are baked fresh with care from a good baker/bakery. When bagels aren't done right, they are not good. After that is all the assortments of bagels. The journey truly begins there. Greetings, folks.

My go-to is a bagel and lox, untoasted. The best bagel I'd ever had, though, was a hot-out-of-the-oven cinnamon bagel with peanut butter. The cinnamon sugar and peanut butter both melted into a gooey mess

Poppy Seed Bagel, Honey Baked Ham, Swiss Cheese, Honey and Almond Cream Cheese. Toasted always. Oh and you can substitute honey mustard for the cream cheese and call it lunch.

I used to live on deli meat sandwiches made on toasted bagels for years. lettuce, tomato, slice of cheese, mayo, honey mustard - hell ya! and gotta be sesame seed or poppy seed for me! but where I am from you eat a buttered or cream cheese bagel as 2 open face slices. you dont eat them like a sandwich the way they did here.
