Can't wait for IL2 to take us to the pacific so we can unleash these babies on early Zeros (which i assume will be there as collector planes)
Finally I found a comprehensive series of guides and tutorials around IL-2 planes and how to get the best of their performances. I struggled with engine management without being sure which plane had which option, what would be the effect and what key binding would be the most useful (lots of questions, right ?).
Thanks for the various videos, very well put and generously shared here.
Thanks Lipo, I've been doing these for a long time now but I pretty much only post on the IL-2 forums so many flight simmers outside of that forum probably don't know about what I make here.
Regarding engine management initially you can take a simplistic view that German = Auto, and everything else needs RPM, mixture, etc.. all assigned correctly. What I do is overlapping of commands on the same button so even if I'm in different airplanes I'll get the same effect (propeller pitch vs RPM, cowl shutters vs radiators, etc). This way I have common keys for what are essentially the same functions.
Thank you for the additional comment. I did not know it was possible to bind the same button or key to different actions. But now I will take the time to investigate and redo my settings. I see Il-2 totally differently now, in a good way.
Great tutorials, just working my way through them as I prepare to jump from IL2 1946 to BoS etc. Really enjoying them.:-)
You're very welcome Remer! Enjoy the rabbit hole :-)
I just want you to know how handy your tutorials are.
I don't play the game as much as I shud as it (tries to) share time with DCS.... But when I need a refresher, I know right where to go. THANKS.
Thanks Tamburello, I split my small amount of free time with DCS as well. Never have enough time in the day to do what we want!
Requiem's vids are truly the gifts that keep on giving. Thanks for all this.
Right! That's IT!! I've decided to familiarise with this beauty (being as I've made so many skins for it!) and here is my first port of call, OF COURSE!! Thanks Req.
It will frustrate the piss out of you in combat...remember to take 4 guns and a smaller amount of fuel.
@@RequiemsACTL which plane do you reccomend for combat as a newer pilot
@@PacoElMapache I would recommend a Bf109 if you don't want to worry about any engine management for Axis,, otherwise I'm a fan of the Spitfire Mk IX for the allied side
Very useful as usual as a starting point for new aircraft. Thank you.
Cheers, the big thing with this one is to remember to close up those cowl flaps. Your airspeed will thank you :-)
Like the one take go around for these last few videos :D
Very good and informative, I'll look forward to seeing your video's in the future
Thanks Ronald, appreciate the feedback and I hope you enjoy my other videos just as much :-)
Thank you Requiem, much appreciated mate.
No worries racer :-)
Looking forward to more of these great tutorials...
Thanks Skip, there should be another soon enough ;-)
Another great tutorial - really appreciate your work on these!
You're welcome, I'm finding the time to get back into it between the RL flying and enjoying the process again :-)
This video made me want to just fly the P-40 around the Kuban map like a general aviation sim. It was fun just to focus on the analogue gauges and manage the engine. Thank you for this. Could you do the Spitfire next?
The P-40 is so much more fun to fly now with the new FM update. I love flying the Spitfire too so it's definitely high on my list of planes to get done, but I want to get some other videos done first ;-) (such as BFM stuff)
If I may make a suggestion....Edit out the auto-start post "E" key and instead add a minute discussing engine management for 1) conservative fuel cruise, 2) combat and how long before engine damage and 3), emergency and how long until engine damage and maybe 4) how the plane performs in relations to others at various altitudes. I have not watched most of your videos so I apologize if you already do this. Also, the old FM for the P-40 was a death trap, especially with a bomb.
Rooster Thanks for the good suggestions. I'll look to incorporate that into the Kuban famils when I get those done. The only thing I probably wouldn't do is get into the relative performance vs all the oher airplanes in the famil videos as it can change easily. I have created an excel spreadsheet that outputs EM diagrams for performance comparisons but i dont have time to do the testing for each airplane. Ive only done a limited data set on the Yak 1 as a proof of concept it worked.
Thanks, Dude!
Great video!
Cheers Justin!
Well done, thank you!
Outstanding!
It is a very clear and very good video. (1) 00:56 Why mixture in full rich position is for cutting out? (2)7:03 to increase throttle to 40 inches? what do 40 inches mean here? (3)7:03 @ step 8 What is IIO MPH?
t is very difficult to manage the engine of this airplane in the air combat. Nice, my friend
It's not so bad once you get used to it. I can't remember the last time I blew up the engine. As long as you keep an eye on your manifold pressure when you make a throttle adjustment and avoid quick huge changes in power it's fine. Things are made worse because it doesn't have that much power to crank out, so in combat people jam the throttle forward instinctively and kill the engine in short order.
Just to point out, in the video you had power at above 45" and 3000 RPM on takeoff at one point. That should be emergency mode and you can blow your engine if you keep it there too long. Also, you might want to point out the P-40 is the only aircraft without a manifold pressure regulator in game and therefore behaves quite differently with altitude changes compared to all others.
Kai Lae The excursion into emergency power wasn't intentional. Unfortunately, my throttle quadrant has developed spiking issues so it jumped up there without my input after I had power set. Good point about the MP and the need to constantly adjust it with altitude.
try to fix your quadrant ( potentiometers ) with one small drop of WD 40 . Usually , potentiometers track is slightely damaged by normal using , that causes this kind of fails .
Thanks for the advice Quintus. I'll have to see what I can do about it, so hopefully your idea can fix it! The only time I opened up the throttle was to disable the rotary wheels on my G940.
you ll fix it , i already tried on PZ 35 rudder pedal, saitck quadrant, etc ( ususally i do not recommand to buy Saiteck ) your welcome
I can’t believe that RUclips recognises IL-2 as FSX. It gets it correct for most IL-2 videos, so why not this one, I wonder?
It is a shame that this game does not allow us to fully utilize the power of this plane. All the accounts of soviets flying the P-40 seem to indicate that they would just push the engine to max and leave it there from takeoff until landing, but in this game, the engine gives out after a few minutes based off a peacetime manual that was usurped in the war by a manual with looser restrictions.
Yeah that's one the things that does get annoying with the way some engines are modeled. They're not as resilient as you would expect which hinders how you fly the airplane. I would prefer it if the engines could handle the highest power settings but that results in a excessive engine temperature / oil pressure which when left unchecked would lead to the damage rather than relying on the arbirtrary timers we have now.
@@RequiemsACTL I think that a built in multi-player profile where you make money off kills, but have to pay for maintnance/ new planes would be a good way to both get people to fly different planes and to hold them accountable for excessive engine wear, but then again, that would make the game more frustrating.
What are the link fuel mixture and prop pitch to throttle commands called in the settings (or what are their default key commands)? In some of the aircraft. Can't seem to find them and a lot of videos recommend doing it (linking them). Thank you.
Only the P-47 can truly link its controls properly as that was a feature of the real throttle. In-game though if you assign multiple axes to the same control then you can link them that way to achieve the same result.
👍👍👍👍👍
No matter what I do, the plane rolls on touchdown. This happens even with full opposite rudder and full wheel break
SoggyBigfoot Make sure your fuselage is aligned with your direction of flight when you land. If you are always ground looping or crashing then record your landings. When you review them from an external view you will probably find the nose is pointed off to the side as you touchdown. Remember to correct for that with the rudder before you touchdown and the ground loop/crashing will stop.
Love your videos! Do you still play RoF?
frank123612 Thanks Frank! I haven't played RoF in a long time. I might have to give it a go and see how much I suck at it now!
Any insight on why it seems this aircraft slips to the left significantly? I often will have 100% right rudder trim and the slip indicator is still barely center. Thank you in advance. Would not be able to play this game without your videos.
Hey Reuben, I'm not sure why you're having issues trimming it. Maybe check that your rudder isn't pushing left on its own maybe.
@@RequiemsACTL yeah, that's a good idea, but it doesn't do it with other aircraft. Thanks for answering.
Why are we unlocking the canopy during pattern and landing? Just visibility?
I make these videos using actual procedures from their respective flight manuals of the period when I have them available. It's my understanding that keeping the canopy open during takeoffs and landings does improve visibility if you need it, but I believe its mainly done to allow a quick egress by the pilot in case of an emergency or crash landing instead of risking being stuck in the cockpit due to the canopy being stuck closed. This is not necessary for a sim of course, but I fly these airplanes according to the manuals.
Could you please do a tutorial on the hs-129 B2 and also the ju-52?
I haven't done the HS-129 yet, but Ju-52 is here: ruclips.net/video/2Kkwxw1qFk8/видео.html
Thank you, have you done an update(or a video) on level bombing? There are a lot of them, but some are confusing?
Hi Shae, there is a video on level bombing using the Pe-2 in the ground attack playlist
i know its such a small thing, but i really hate not having magneto control
Just one of the many things we don't have full control over but I think it strikes a good balance overall
Hi can you tell me what computer do you have, so i can buy the same for me, thank you.
CPU - I7 7700k, Mobo - MSI Pro Z270, RAM - 16Gb Corsair DDR4, GPU - Radeon R9 290
Why don't you make a clickable cockpit? It will be great!
racingtheweb While it adds something to a sim, the developers of this game won't be creating clickable cockpits anytime soon as they have stated this is not their goal (I don't develop the game I just make videos)
The Air Combat Tutorial Library tanks for your quick response
racingtheweb To answer your question, basically, money. Devs have said that it would cost more time and effort than they have.
Why detail the starting sequence? It is fully automated anyway. The editing of the is great tho.
I´d rather like to know how to finally make kills!
Hey Leon,
I'm going to re-work that portion of my videos beginning with the Battle of Kuban airplanes to include engine/combat power information.
Cool stuff!
I keep on blowing up engines and not getting very far lol
Just keep the engines within limits and don't make huge throttle increases. if you push the throttle forward too fast the governor can't compensate fast enough and the RPM goes too high...KABOOM!
Getting used to her qualities now. Love them 50's.
@@craigdavies4682 Yeah those 50's are great bomber shredders, pity she can't dance well with the 109's. To be fair it is only when I get a full squad I go up against I get flustered. Against a pair with a wingman and they are fair game.
It is hard to get well on their 6 so one has to be content with fly pass snap shots. Must pay more attention to the heat warning light, manifold gauge and flap indicator when in fight.
@@pierrebroccoli.9396 A lot has changed since I 1st posted this, I upgraded my PC just recently and now have Track ir 5 so things are very smooth. I now no longer suffer from input lag and run IL2 as maxed out as the sim will allow with a constant 60fps. The PC upgrades have been a complete game changer. I can now settle in and learn to fly these old birds and I'm loving it :)
This is the most boring thing I have ever watched
Winner for the funniest comment.
