  • It is Barracuda Galore at Ala Moana Park! I have stumbled upon Ala Moana Park while i was in Oahu and decided to do some casts before I head to the Ala Moana Beach for some salt water fishing. I have noticed two ponds, connected via a small canal and it leads into two harbors. As i scouted the place out, I have found ton of barracudas! They are like... pickerels of the saltwater world but 100 times faster!
    If you guys ever go on vacation in Hawaii, Oahu, take rod with you on your trip. Ton of action at this park. Your wife, parents, family can be across the street at the ala moana center, the biggest mall on the island eating, shopping or w.e while you are fishing!

    Wow!! This is nuts. I'm a local and used to play at the tennis courts by the canal all the time. Occasionally I went by the canals to see the fish and all I ever saw was tilapia. The pond too. I had no clue there were barracuda in there. I'm not a big fisherman but I gotta try that canal and pond one day. I saw your Ala Wai video too and had no idea of the barracuda.

    I was born and raised on Oahu and grew up fishing those ponds. It's changed a lot though with a lot of homeless, construction, and trash every where. Definitely do not eat anything out of that water and I would recommend to basically bring a soap and water bucket with you to wash your hands.

    Hi man, great video. Quick question, is this a saltwater canal? Or is it brackish or what?

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  6 лет назад

      it's mainly salt. it connects two shipping docks and any freshwater dumped in are from the streets. there were a few drain pipes towards the city... with that said, don't eat anything there :P ton of tilapias tho

    • @deshnaidoo2558
      @deshnaidoo2558 6 лет назад +1

      Oh okay thanks bro. And nay haha trust me I won't be eating anything from there any time soon, I'm all the way in South Africa. We also have a similar sort of canal here but it's constantly filtered and pumped sea water and not connected to the ocean in any way, there's some monster barracudas and a few hammerheads in it.

    • @rawrfishing

I would also recommend you look up palomar knot and improved clinch knot as well. these will help you get started in your fishing adventures :)

      raWr Fishing if you go to Oahu drive up to the north shore near turtle bay resort and try gold castmasters, squid under a bobber, and grubs behind a bubble float. With the squid you will catch a lot of reef species but with the castmaster and grubs you have a good chance of catching something big

    Bend down the barbs on your hooks, makes releasing the fish, or your shirt, or your finger, or your ear... much easier. LOL. After posting this video I bet two things will happen. There will be standing room only for about 2 weeks... so many fisherman you won't find an open space to stand. Then in about 3 weeks, no one... because they caught and kept all the fish. :)

    • @rawrfishing

      +Stan Wright oh wow, is this the famous stan Wright the blogger from Hawaii? I didn't realize there r that much ppl who keep fish in Hawaii. The canal is littered with trash from the homeless and the pipes from the city seems to dump into it. I probably would crush barbs for toothy critters like these but I wanted my trip to be successful lol. Paid a lot to travel to Hawaii!

    • @stanwright8583
      @stanwright8583 6 лет назад +1

      Your right... people throw trash in the streets and the first rain flushes it right into the canals, streams, lake, and ocean. It is not the tourist or the military who litter... it's the "locals". All this talk about caring for the aina. Ha. so much litter on all the streets. Very Sad.

    Please make sure you don’t eat anything or touch your mouth or anyone before washing your hands. This water is known to have very disgusting things inside and leptospirosis. People have known to get very sick(Almost Death) from the water going into their mouth. I used to fish in there and it’s fun but just be sure not to touch anything after you touch the water.👌
