I've definitely enjoyed this Thor run as a more "Journey into Mysteries" approach to the characters. Sure it's not nearly as philosophical and horror driven as Immortal Hulk and slower paced, but a soft 8/10 so far as a more casual read.
Genuine question, how did issue 25 subvert everything in Immortal Hulk? I agree it was a great issue, but from what I remember, it felt very stand-alone and did not really make as much sense in the grand plot. The issue, from what I remember, was pure destruction. But the idea of the run was that you have the choice between destruction and peace.
It presented main villain. Showed the horrible future for Hulk, raising the stakes for the series. And the story became more focused, previously being more a procedural horror superheroics. The Hulk himself became proactive, starting a campagne against Agger. That's my reading of Ewing's words.
Love Chat and love Al’s Thor! I think Utgard is best understood as pre-Asgard. Utgard Thor is the Norse thunder god before Thor, Utgard Loki is a god of stories before Loki. No actual familial relation; rather a predecessor on the “job” of Thor or Loki.
I think one of the reasons this run isn't as big as his Hulk run is that it's changed artists quite a bit. Coccolo was good and so is Bazualda but they aren't the best, or they aren't bringing a super distinct style to the book, which wanted to go back to classic feel.
I'd like an Ultimate Starbrand title with a new proper White Event and the rest of the cast including Nightmask, Justice, and Cipher in addition to the Builders and Ex Nihilo etc.
I gave up on monthly read of this title and moved it to "catch up on Marvel Unlimited one day" pile. It's a shame as Ewing is my favorite Marvel writer and Thor my favorite marvel character, but I am really not feeling this book. Loosing Martin Cocolo on art helped to make this decision.

Ewing said issue 25 (as was in Immortal Hulk) will be the breaking point that will subvert everything.

With every “immortal “title marvel has ever done, is there a through line theme behind the immortal title?
