Love it, comradery to the vintage best. Unfortunately the RAF of new is far from this nostalgic propaganda.

That’s the RAF I joined in 1970 and flew in for 19 years. In the days when we had an RAF. Today’s version is a pale shadow.

In 1975 I was ground crew on BBMF, I had joined the RAF in 1970. I remember the grey flying suits well, now long gone but I still have and wear my flying jacket, originally green it was dyed Black, now slightly faded. 1975 was the year the Lightnings left RAF Coltishall, and the Jaguars moved in. By the late eighties I was working on those self same Hercules.

I signed up for Queen & Country in 1976 a boy entrant apprentice at RAF Halton. THIS is my era. Back then 108,000 staff - today - 30,000😮 My first posting was Brize working on the last of the Belfasts and 7 years on the mighty Queen of The Skies the VC10 (when they were all painted the PROPER colours - not the awful 'sick grey') Happy Days

The Belfasts came back Heavy Lift when I was on the line @BZN! First School of TT is now for the recruits. The history has long gone!

I was a Halton apprentice also. Joined up in 1968 then went on to JPs Hunters and finally Vulcans.

That guy saying that it was all about a radar and a linked missile system. Clearly the Americans in Vietnam had a different thought when they started putting gun pods on the F4

Does anyone recall an advert for RAF Aerial Erectors in the 1970's? The film consisted of a guy climbing a huge aerial with a crossbow on his back. Once at the top he fired the crossbow taking a line from one aerial tower to the next. Cannot seem to find a clip of this anywhere. Anyone remember or help?

@@visorcover He did a film about Gloster Meteors shooting down V1s that was just a crock of shite. I think I saw a second film of his that I could tear apart too. I don't know that much, so to be able to rubbish two of his videos means I don't bother watching him any more. Greg's Airplanes and Automobiles was also ticked off with him, and Greg is the most helpful and generous of content creators. In short, you have no idea most of the time whether Dr Felton has produced a golden nugget or if it's a spray-painted turd.
