I know the train might not be very good, but what stood out was the hospitality of locals, incredibly helpful and nice people.
The best part is they all speak English and make feel so welcoming. Hope someday they will develop. But please don't underestimate that train journey. It was an experience of a kind for you. Even sometimes our rural journeys are a disaster. But seeing the general compartment I feel it was not so crowded comparing to Indian ones

About 45 years ago I remember seeing trains like this in India too. I havent travelled much by trains between 1990 until now but I find that it has improved a bit since then. Now, I want to travel in the latest Vande Bharat, Gatiman Express soon and the bullet trains when it starts.

Our Indian trains also used to jump like this 10-15 years back. I'm not sure what changed but I distinctly remember the coaches wildly bouncing and a young me scared to cross from one coach to another.

What changed is we replaced most of the old ICF coaches with the new and MUCH safer LHB coaches. India makes around 6000 new LHB coaches every year. That is more coaches than most countries have in their entire railways. And we build that many in just one year. Imagine how herculean an effort it was to replace all ICF with LHB, and then this dude comes in with "I'm not sure what changed" smh.

Kya galti kar di bhenchod yeh puchke ki technologies me kya upgrade hua hai? Tere jaiso ki wajah se information disseminate nahi hota kyuki log sawal puchne se darte hai.
Also it's not due to the change in coaches. The reason why coaches don't bump and jerk like before is because the tracks are welded shut these days. This forms a seamless transition from one section of the track to another. Earlier they were bolted together to join the sections and at high speed that bolted joint jerked under the momentum of the train which caused jerking motion of the train.
What ? no it didn't jump like this 😂

You are visiting a new country, you must be adaptive about everything there. You can't criticize everything. Look at the foreigners that travel to our place in India. Narrow gauge trains are usually bumpy. I remember taking narrow gauge in Gujarat and the train was vibrating vertically similar to the one in the video. That was 30 years ago though

That bumps or jerky moment in the train you got is called "hammer blow" its a defect caused when balancing of unbalance forces on the crank were not done properly, basically its a mechanical engineering defect. Its a main cause of derailing of the train from the track.

I think Indian railways should take a leap and develop railway infrastructures in these countries. This will increase the awareness of Indian Railways as well and it will be good for our engineers where they can upskill themselves quickly as they will work right from scratch one more reason is African terrain is complex their we have extreme advantage as well . Africa is massive and promotion of Railway infrastructures would be as massive. We have very good support structure from very research and development companies like Alstom, Siemens mobility etc.
