The size of the trays are specific Coyote grill models. They may fit other units, but were designed for use with our firebox size.

Can you use that tray for wood chunks also, or just lump charcoal? Thanks

Hi Brett, The charcoal tray was designed to be used with lump charcoal. You are welcome to try wood, but we only recommend using lump charcoal.

I've read that this is bad for the plates as they are not used to the amount of heat?

Steve, Thanks for the clarifying question. For the use of the charcoal tray, the heat control grid or ceramic briquette tray that sits above the burner would be removed. The charcoal tray is to be placed directly over the desired burner for use! The tray is designed to be used with the amount of heat produced from charcoal cooking. Another quick tip, you do want to be sure you do not overload the tray with charcoal when using. We appreciate you asking.

Isn’t that going to make a mess when the ash falls through and on to the burners?
