Nice review, as always Fred 👍
I've just ordered this loop with the Malahit DSP-2 from Banggod😍 So grateful for your reviews.
Already got the UV-K5.

I got this antenna, and I am glad I did. Satisfied.
@@andreipetrov7910 Toying with the idea myself
Hi Fred. Excellent video as always. I have a tip here: as I was experimenting with my endfed-longline antenna I also put my amplified loop antenna up. A friend of mine is a Radio engineer since 50years and looked at my little loop. He brought a "field strength meter" with him and started walking around the back yard until he found the ideal position for that loop antenna ( I had no idea what he was doing, for me it was more a modern form of dowsing!). Then we positioned the mast exactly where he said and switched on the loop system. Now he again used his "box" in vertical motion until he had an ideal height of 4.2m.
I can tell you, that even before all this the loop was extremely good, but now it is absolutly sensational!! The loop now is a good bit better than my 42m longlead! He explained to me that especially with loaded loop antennas it is paramount, to find the ideal position with the field strength meter! I think your loop could even be stronger if you try the same!! It should work inside just as well, you just need to switch of all electrical sources during measurement. My loop is the MLA-30+, and I must say that this loop with the Tecsun H-501x the Tecsun pl-680 and the Sony 7600GR is sensational. Main difference is of course the noise level which is much louder with the longline, but even the Signal is stronger! Hope this tip can help anybody (you probably all know that since donkeys years and go "yahwn"), but for me this was a great experience! FYI, 😊! All the best.... have a lovely Sunday all!!
Thanks for the info. Yes it just shows how experience cannot be replaced.
I'd add that that the MLA+30 isn't the same as this antenna, nor is the same as a YouLoop (but very similar).
If this thing really performs well up to 500mhz, I'll be pleased.
excellent work and demo fred - good work on showing the amateur bands with lower power stations (compared to commercial) - i hope this gets more Short wave listeners or even ham radio operators with split RX/TX feeds, being able tosee how well it works, sure it will be picked up ! top work.
Many thanks!
Thanks for the video Fred, you were lucky, my loop came with no instructions, so your video is very helpful!!
Glad it helped!
I've been using the "legit" YouLoop with separate active amp, which is very good indeed, as a directional antenna to augment my existing discone omnidirectional, feeding into an Airspy Discovery SDR receiver. Works VERY well, and is very capable of clearly receiving signals that are almost undetectable for the discone.
A Q and a couple of observations:
1. How those little plastic tab things stick to anything? (I get how to attach the boards).
2. If you have an RSP1A or any of that series, you can forego the power box and just turn on the bias T. Or if you have an MLA 30+, use that power supply.
OR if you have a TenTec RX 320 radio, the power supply for that should fit.
That's all I got.
😊
It might be interesting to compare outdoors the gain between this YouLoop Active and the MLA-30+? Looking at both the comments and the review it does look like a good unit to use as well as an advantage over the previous non active YouLoop
The non amplified version also works well.Been using one hanging up in the attic to my IC 705
Good to hear. They are fairly well made considering the low cost.
I watched this before (I'm back), enjoy your videos Fred! I'll be sending one of these types of things to a friend and a box radio (PL880 Tecsun) as a house warming present. The Loop Antenna is AN-48X Active Loop antenna by Tecsun. I thought he could put it on his window, listen to CB or anything, skip in his new small home. Anyway, any talking points you can say.. or anyone..
I have both this and the MLA 30. I prefer the latter.
Really ?

Its a good little antenna, i have been using it for a few months now, only problem i have is i had to solder a few of the sma connections back on the little boards, after a few drops and some handling those solder joints start to loosen, probably if you hung it up somewhere and never had to move it then it would be ok, probably down to the thin flexible blue antenna cable, bit to flimsy putting pressure on those joints
I have mine like yours on the window with some velcro strips. Yes, indoor use only from the weather, no protection. The long sma coax is great. 😅
Frid in the shed my hobbies are painting pictures 🖼 and listening to shortwave and ssb iam thinking about getting my Grms license my friend
Yes, I have this antenna for a while.
It's ok 😊
Hi Fred I have one I use outside I have it it installed in a kids hulla hoop so I can use it rotatable
What a clever idea.
Very interesting loop
Yes, I needed my own plug power lead too. I agree that there wasn't much documentation to help you set up. 7:28
Would like to see you review the boni whip antenna and how to power it.supper channel
Maybe that little case is for the extra cables. Nice review as always. Cheers
The case is too small (obviously) for the cables; it's for the little boards, the amplifier, switch and Bias-T.
On the Banggod site, there is a pic.
Hi Fred,
Note 1: On the dip switch ON is printed on the left side of the switch, so no need to guess.
Note 2: I found the setting for Electrostatic Shield Magnetic Loop Mode, to be the best by far (less noise). Maybe somebody can explain the technique?
Watch out that you don't hit the PTT by accident and take out that amplifier in a millisecond. Happened to me once.
Great review as always! I betcha the little case was for the 'missing?' power supply?
Thanks. I actually think that the whole thing is supposed to fit in it.
This has caught my interest. I've been using an MLA-30+ in my bedroom and am looking for smaller form factor active loop antennas. Fred, how do you see this new YouLoop Active compared to the Deshibo GA-450? 🙂
I got much more gain from this loop. The smaller 450 loop is easy to rotate to avoid noise though.
Very interesting review Fred, nice one. Any danger in the future of maybe attaching the 3.5mm jack and surprising the Qodosen or similar with it? My Tecsun PL-330 might benefit from one of those when away from home. ✌
Hi. Yeah might do. Keep an eye out on future vids.
Thanks for sharing 😊
Looks a decent option Fred, especially for someone in an apartment or block of flats 👍🏼
I also have the cheap version of the YouLoop which is decent enough. I did consider trying one of those amplifiers for it from AliExpress but never got round to it. Got the MLA 30+ as well.
The only one I thought was poor was the active Mini Whip SW antenna, yet some folk like them 🤷♂️

Yes would be ideal for a block of flats.
Frid in the shed your RUclips videos are awesome my friend
Can you stop spamming his videos with your nonsense? His name is not "Frid".
Looks like a great deal.
You do get a lot for the money other than a power lead.
Nice Reviews, Mrs is saying no to 25 ft Shakespeare 😳
I put mine up when she was at work. Took her 48 hrs to notice and then it hit the fan but hell it was up by then :-)
@@CB-RADIO-UK Haha. Nice one!
Should the power supply voltage be 5V to 12V, as in the video? Do I have to worry that a switching power would introduce noise into the radio?
You could always use a car battery if you were worried but it seemed fine.
I looked up the pages that LZ1AQ has published. It is build for 12.3V to 16V else the performance will drop drastically.
The sticky pads fasten to one's chest
for ekg test leads. 😅
LOL
@@CB-RADIO-UK Thanks 😊
You could waterproof that seal it in an airtight box and fill it full of silica gel .:-)
Fred I bought two YouLoop magnetic loops from Airspy, so if you run across a decent amplifier only…please make a video.
73! Have a great day!
Will do. have you checked out the Airspy LNA. Prob a bit more expensive but its matched to their loop.
I've used the Nooelec LANA HF lna with good results.
@@gooshy8312 Thanks for the reply and advice.
I have a basic noobie question. I have a couple of scanners, a portable CB unit and a basic, sub-standard shortwave unit. Would this antenna help me to listen to even basic signals? I have an office in a basement framed with metal studs. I get nothing at my desk. I honestly am looking for an antenna that I can put outside and run in to my office.
Hi. This antenna is not suitable for outside use unless you take a lot of time waterproofing it. Your prob better just putting up a basic homebased CB antenna which will also bring in a lot of SW. See this video for some ideas. ruclips.net/video/k_od3QmrUSw/видео.html
Mine came with the power adapter...
So I assume it was fine running this at 13.8V even though the instructions said 5-12V?
Seemed fine to me.
can that radio also do 11 meters,i m looking for a radio with internal battery and tuner
It can with a software mod to enable transmit.
@@CB-RADIO-UK good i might buy the 100 version this one cost me 2 much lol
Why would they ise a barrel jack for power instead of just using USB like an MLA-30
Just starting out and ordered the famous Quengsheng KV5(8). Is this a good antenna for home use with the KV5(8)?
As it works up to 500 MHz it should cover most of what the radio can receive. I have not tested it though.
Frid in the shed your new active loop shortwave antenna is awesome my friend
Just incase nobody told you the circuit boards go in that case for traveling
Thanks for that. Its makes sense now.
You can put your earmuffs in the case. 😅
What about in the loft on its back
Should work as vertical.
Any idea what size that coaxial connector is?
They are all SMA
@@CB-RADIO-UK Sorry, I wasn't being clear. I meant the power connector. I think those are also called "coaxial" and have an internal diameter and external diameter specification. (Not the same thing as "a connector on a coaxial cable.")
Got you. Not sure as it does not say but i think mine was a 6.3mm connector center pin live.
@@CB-RADIO-UK Thanks!
What can i use for power suply?
Any 12 volt adapter.
the original youloop only had a 1;1 balun no lna
👍
Can anyone compare this antenna and GA800 ?
Tested both. You get more gain from this antenna but its not directional hanging in a window. Think home based use. The 800 has less gain can be set up anywhere and is directional.

Nothing wrong with Banggood.
Don't like, don't watch
He isn’t promoting anything. He is reviewing a product based in his own operating environment. Reviewing and promoting are two different things
The amp is probably getting hot as it’s rated at 5-12v and your supply is 13.8 🫣
Yes that might be a factor.
Iam using it with 9V and it's not getting hot.
