Hong Kong university campus torn apart by deadly street battles

  • Around a hundred exhausted, bedraggled young men and women are hunkered down in Hong Kong’s Polytechnic University, the scene of pitched battles between police and activists. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
Inside we found exhausted teenagers, stranded and desperate, worried as much about being arrested by police as by their parents’ reaction. Some of the protestors were ditching their distinctive black clothes, the uniform of the protest, to try and make a run for it. Others stay put, wanting to fight until the bitter end.
Tonight tension has flared up all around the city as other protesters try to distract police, hoping to give the stranded students a chance to break out.
More mass protests may be on the horizon too, as rumours swirl that, after months of chaos, the government is going to cancel this weekend’s election.
    Distressing images.

That being said i still commend them for going to the front lines of this. Bottom line is all media has its bias you just have to look past it and see what the actual news is, it helps to get that from multiple sources.

the protestors made a huge gamble when they tried to take over HK Polytech. HK Polytech is located in Kowloon, across the harbor from HK island. It is their first real attempt to establish a foothold in Kowloon, which is physically located on mainland China. If successful in the takeover, than it would be a huge victory for the protestors. But it failed badly because the local Kowloon residents would not support them. About 800 protestors were arrested. Now the protest movement is now confined to HK island. It makes it much easier for China to deal with them.

So I'm an American who has never been to Hong Kong before. I support the Hong Kong protests. Now, I'm not looking to argue with people. Honestly the internet is used for ugly arguments that never go any where. I support the Hong Kong Police just as much as I support the protesters. I can't imagine what it's like to serve a city and be proud of your job as a police officer, only to have so many people turn against you because you are doing your job. But at the same time, the people of Hong Kong have every right to freedom, and it's not being given to them. The umbrella movement didn't work. When the world doesn't listen, people riot. I would point out there are many protesters who support the police and are peaceful. And I would point out that yes, the actions of the extreme protests are violent, but they shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. These hardcore activists seem to feel like violence is the only way to be heard, and that's awful.
This is only my perspective, which is probably pretty small compared to those of others. If there's anyone here from China or Hong Kong, regardless of whether you are pro PRC, pro democracy, or pro police, I would love to hear about how you see things.

These are sad misinformed kids destroying themselves and their city. Have they no shame? What do they want? Democracy? Did the British give them that when HK was a colony? Is the US gonna come and fight for their cause? Just disillusioned kids daydreaming.

@@remy-zh8bu well, I made that comment a year ago and it probably wasn't clear but I think you misunderstood. Though I don't hate them, I consider them to be extremely selfish and ignorant. Smashing the campus, making their own weapons, starting fires, blocking traffic, and creating so much chaos is just filthy. I would have more respect for them if they didn't act like terrorists.

@@remy-zh8bu there is police misconduct in almost every country and sadly that's just how it is right now, but you can not blame the majority who are just doing their job protecting us and keeping Hong Kong operating as one of the most amazing cities there is to visit in China.

@@remy-zh8bu I'm Chinese of course I know what CCP is but I doubt you know how they actually work. Also, western media reporting on the numbers of protestors wasn't ever officially confirmed. It was said to be around 200,000 (which is bs). There are around 7 million other people trying to live their lives not wanting these idiots to ruin their city. Don't try to use these stupid questions to corner me on something related to my own country.

Not revolution and not ask King Xi to step down.......they just want China

They want trust for the basic laws and keep their promise. Keep HK free !!
