HK people have a wicked sense of black humor - "it's so ridiculous, but here we are". what can you do? [cue laugh track].
It's essentially a bunch of people trying to cope with this new reality - knowing that the consequences are unbearable, but choosing to ignore that voice to focus on what they can and feel they should do. If you're fighting for your income during the day, for your city's future during the night, and head home needing to put up a mask - dark humor seems to be as healthy a coping mechanism as it gets.
What I'm worried about is the trauma and fallout that will happen over the next few years.

I live in Hong Kong. I want the world to know what is actually happening about the protest in Hong Kong. I am a normal citizen what I am saying is not propaganda. We got worry when weekend is approaching. Another protest, another law breaking riot mob on the street. The protests is violence, highly disturbing and dangerous.
In the past 2 months (except last Sunday protest on the clip) every protest end up in violence attack the police or any one disagree to their opinion.
Protester force the air port to be close for 2 days. Protesters are putting obstacles like bicycle on railway track, cutting off electric wire of traffic light (200poles+) on major traffic road. Putting obstacles on heavy traffic road and tunnels. Destroy public facility at Metro station. Bullying /hit anyone with different opinion. Endanger other people`s life just to force them not to go to work. This is a violence riot!
80% Protesters are fully equipped outfit which cost over US$2000. Where the money come from? US ambassy are highly involved and contacting the riot's leader.
Before the protest, Hong Kong is one of the safest city in the world, now it is become the live wargame playground for the protester. MAJORITY of Hong Kong people are very angry about the ruffian and the riot. HK is just a city, it cannot be independent, just like New York cannot be independent. This is a very simple logic. If this happen in NewYork, police will not use rubber bullet but real bullet.
This is not about democracy and freedom, this is a violence riot !
The clip of the video is very MIS LEADING , it did not show the violence part of the protest with GAEOLINE BOMB and the most important the MAJORITY DISGREEMENT ABOUT THE PROTEST of the Hong Kong people !!

I was born in Hong Kong and am a permanent resident of the city and am living here now. I can tell you teenagers who lack true perspective are being exploited by local politicians to gain control of the government by propagating empty slogans of "democracy" and "freedom." For the record, the very same politicians who are decrying lack of democracy in Hong Kong were the ones who rejected a proposal in 2015 for universal suffrage to elect our Chief Executive. They have leveraged the political misstep by our Chief Executive in proposing an extradition bill to China (which philosophically was not improper) to perpetuate these protests, even after the government had stopped the proposal. The anti-extradition bill was only a front -- the protests arejust simply anti-government -- as can be seen by the bundled "Five Demands" deal which can easily be leveraged into perpetually being "not good enough" and therefore continuing the protests. Before these protests broke out, Hong Kong was the third freest place in the world -- we enjoyed freedom of mobility, freedom of speech, freedom of sexual orientation, freedom of religion and much more. Since the protest broke out, ordinary citizens like myself have lost the freedom of mobility -- we have to avoid certain locations in the city for fear of violent protests and our airport -- once the most efficient in the Asia -- is intermittently closed due to attacks by "peaceful" protesters. We have also lost the freedom of speech -- any expression of anti-protest sentiment, either online or physical, will be attacked by the pro-protest camp (as witnessed this week by a school teacher getting beaten on for signing the national anthem). I can pretty much bet this comment will solicit some unwanted comments. We have lost the freedom to choose what we wear -- wearing black can lead us into trouble. The situation is worrying, as the so-called "pro-democracy" camp intimidate ordinary citizens from speaking our minds, provoke the police (then cry wolf when the police enforce the law) and block true democratic progress in the city.

Democracy is an ideal concept that is praised by most but it is not suitable for China. China has one of the largest population in the world and the only way to make it stable is communism and dictatorship. Though in the process, some freedom of the people is sacrificed but the country as a whole had grown in an immense rate. HK is and will forever be a part of China and the Chinese government will make sure HK falls in line eventually. Some HK people may not like it and are willing to fight for it. Though I do not agree with some of their methods, I admire their bravery. But in the end, HK WILL BE ASSIMILATED whether they like it or not. It's a sad truth but this is the way it works.
