I knew that grabbing the yarn from the top makes the stitch much tighter. Thanks for pointing out that yarning under has specific usefulness in amigurumi.
I've used both methods. Going under the hook, instead of over, with a contrasting yarn for just one round, creates a really neat and masculine stripe in a man's hat.
I yarn under for the first part, then yarn over for the second just because it's an easier, automatic movement for the way I hold everything. I wish I could remember who it was but someone here on YT did a video on YU/YU vs YU/YO vs YO/YO. It actually made quite a bit of difference on over all size
Thank you so much for this tip, I have so many projects on the go at the moment because there's so many nice things to do so I think I will save this tip for when I go back to doing my Amigurumi chicken that I started. 😁😁😂🐣🐔🐓
I’m going to try a sample square of yarn under single crochet bc I’m curious to see how it changes the look of the back side of the stitch. Hmmm, now I’m curious what it would look like to yarn over in the odd rows and yarn under in the even rows🧐
I would do it this way but use the wrapping technique shown in this video and apply it like the decrease shown in the video here linked ruclips.net/video/duYnfFtjUXU/видео.html
I like the look of this, but I crochet so mindlessly and auto pilot that I would forget and resume my typical crochet position half way through my project

My amigurumi come out so much better since I learned this technique
I’ll need to watch this again and again and again :), hmmm wondering how that would look in ‘normal/regular SC????, I’ll try it :)
I haven't done it yet but I heard it makes a significant different.
Thanks for the close ups. I slowed this down to almost the slowest speed to make sure I was doing it correctly.🤭

You are so welcome!
Thanks, Mikey - I love this tip! May you and your staff have a wonderful day!!!
I remember when you used to do the stitch that way in your early videos, see I told you I have been here a long time lol.
That's true. The craft yarn council requested I change to match books and I did.
Thank you so much for sharing this…it was just what I needed to improve the look of my crochet toys.
Thank you!!! For the tip AND for keeping the video short!

I will have to try that technique.
Thank you for sharing this. I've seen many crafters doing this but didn't realize it made a difference.
My pleasure.
Thankyou for sharing this stitch!! I’ll try and remember to use this next time!!
my pleasure.
Interesting tip. I'm going to try this on slippers. The tops could be tighter.
let us know how that works out.
Great tip❤

It's significant.

I am currently making a gnome. Will try this. Thank you!
Let me know how you make out.
I finished my gnome. It is posted on the stitch social. I used your method for most of the hat. It made tighter, closer constructed sc stitches.
Oh my! I wish I would have known that sooner. TFS
Any time!
Perfecto mil gracias por compartir 😘 🇲🇽 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏.
Thanks so much.
Thank you!
Great tip… was not taught that way
Things we learn along the stitching journey right?!
Very cool thanks
My pleasure.
Love this
Thanks.
Just for clarity sake this is called a yarn under
Oh interesting. I will have to google. I didn't know the wrap was considered by a term. Thank you for sharing that with me.

I love when curiousity like this kicks in. :D
Now I know why my stitches are always too tight! Thank you!
You are so welcome!
How to decrease in this style of stitch? Please do a video, thank you🤗
I would do it this way but use the wrapping technique shown in this video and apply it like the decrease shown in the video here linked ruclips.net/video/duYnfFtjUXU/видео.html
Wow
Neat eh!
Can I get a lefthanded version please?
I'm sorry, I didn't edit this to be left handed.
I like the look of this, but I crochet so mindlessly and auto pilot that I would forget and resume my typical crochet position half way through my project
Yes, it takes memory in your hands to do this.
Selamat pagi saudaraku
THanks.
