I grew up for 2 years with my Mom, Grandparents, and 2 uncles and my uncles gf. But then my mom got together with a man who threw away his entire college career, and evrrything normal teens should do to babysit me and such. When they got married when I was 4 1/2, I started calling him dad and now have 2 younger brothers. My bio dad literally signed a paper saying he didn’t want to be in my life. It was a rocky beginning because I was used to my mother (who was not really apart of my brother's or my lives). Now I sometimes call my step mom "step mommy" and I barely talk to my mother as the years went by.

I can't understand the mother! The same happened to my step daughter and her siblings. But they actually grew up. with her. After they were around the age of 10 , she left her husband (now he is my husband). Shw stopped caring about them, as I moved to my husband. And as she had actually a boyfriend (which is forbidden in Islam), she even didn't call them anymore, because the new man in her life was more important to her, than her own children. I cared for them, and try to do my best, to comfort them. But it was really hard work and it didn't go well between us the first time. But now we have a really good relationship. Especially my stepdaughter and me. To her younger sister and her two older brother's, I don't have much contact. They are living with their mom again. But , they aren't really happy. I know the same story like this here in Qatar. The parents got separated and their 3 daughters just lived with their nanny and a private teacher who looked after them. The father married one of his employees and lived with her in a different house (they already had a daughter that time). He just visited the kids when he has time but didn't stay overnight. One day, the jobless mother of kids left them and rented an apartment. She just visited the kids when she needed money from the kids' father and also to get food from the fridge. One time, the mom expected some money to get from kids but her ex-husband didn't give. She got a knife and pointed it to everyone and broke some appliances. The people who looked after the kids called the father. That's the time he decided to move the kids and live with them (his new wife). The new wife takes care her stepdaughters as her own child. Not just the term mom but also the term family does NOT means that always 2 parents or from different genders, ect. It is about the connection, your inner circle for friends (not just human friends) and anyone who just simply cares for you, loves you for you you are and always there for you.
You need to EARN the title: mom, dad, friend, ect.
I know the same story like this here in Qatar. The parents got separated and their 3 daughters just lived with their nanny and a private teacher who looked after them. The father married one of his employees and lived with her in a different house (they already had a daughter that time). He just visited the kids when he has time but didn't stay overnight. One day, the jobless mother of kids left them and rented an apartment. She just visited the kids when she needed money from the kids' father and also to get food from the fridge. One time, the mom expected some money to get from kids but her ex-husband didn't give. She got a knife and pointed it to everyone and broke some appliances. The people who looked after the kids called the father. That's the time he decided to move the kids and live with them (his new wife). The new wife takes care her stepdaughters as her own child. She helps the father to provide for living, prepares meals for the family, shops for kids, defend the kids from everyone unlike what the biological mother did. The kids just see their mom every Friday and sleep with her, go back home on Saturday. The mom doesn't want to take care of her own kids. She said that she's not a maid or a nanny to do that. If the kids wanted to stay longer with their mom, the father asked his ex-wife but she just yelled and warned him to throw them out of her apartment if he won't take the kids with him. I'm glad the kids found their real mom in their step mom. 😊 That made me realize that you can't be called a mom by simply giving birth to your kids. Being a mom takes responsibility, caring, and loving your children unconditionally. Just sharing 😊
I'm glad that this is more about the emotional part of being a mom and not the biological part. I used to call my biological dad my "real dad" and although I love him equally to my stepdad, I realized that i shouldn't be calling him "real dad" because my stepdad is also my dad.
I feel the same way about my step dad when I was little i would get so angry when some tried to tell me he wasn't my real dad
