I have never related so much to a virtual character in my life. Her entire quest was almost near exact to how my life went meeting others. (Excluding the god and adeptus stuff obviously...) I myself work a lot on big and small things alike, and by normal standard I guess it is a hobby of mine. I usually work everyday to feel useful, and I suppose eventually it grew on me. I do enjoy doing nothing and can nap just about anywhere, and though it is sorta of a luxury to rest and I wish I could do that the rest of my life, but when I think about my family and those who need me, those feelings fade away. I also cannot tolerate spicy food, I see people eating hot Cheetos and even just the scent can make me uneasy, ugh. Going with the similarities, her conversations almost went exactly the same, like when i'm called useless it... It really hurts as other then providing I don't see much in myself independently, so words like that degrade and hurt a lot... However in lighter terms I made my first friend not to long ago, and it felt so surreal. They gave compliments and made me feel... Okay. They even seemed shocked at how I reacted to their words, as I said they didn't know how much being a friend meant to me. Reason why friends are such a big thing to me is because at a young age I was bullied a lot, and I have mild autism, so there were a lot of factors that hindered my social skill. I'm extremely difficult to talk to irl, and usually end up being to awkward or nervous, except when it's something work related I can somewhat tolerate it. So... When I got my first friend at 16 it was... Life changing to say the least, and even a year later I still cherish every day I get to text them. Sorry for using this comment section to complain about life.. And also this is a long comment to read, or if it bothers anyone. I actually have the unpopular opinion that ganyu isn't as well written as other characters... I actually sought out this video bc I really, really want to like her. She is my absolute favorite character I play! But here's why I don't like her. Her design is so incredibly sexualized. To be fair, the female characters are mostly all sexualized. I get it, it sells, and the designs are still very pretty! They say a lot about the character, match their theme and personality. For example, raiden's outfit is sexualized, but displays her roots in Japanese culture, her power, her element, and grace. Lisa's outfit is similar to ganyu's, but it makes sense. Lisa is seductive, confident in herself, and her outfit alludes to her academic background. But what does ganyu's clothing say about her? Is this really something she would choose to wear? Especially since she is insecure about her figure and wants to fit in. I feel like she would stand out a lot. Her character is inherently fatphonic. Now I get it, A LOT of media sells the "girl insecure about her figure" story. But it's still not healthy. Not to mention ganyu is insecure about her weight despite canonically having a super thin body and tight clothes? It feels like the romanticization of insecurities in women when it comes to their appearance, and to me, feels icky. What is her story, exactly? Every character has a goal their striving towards, something they want. Ganyu isn't really moving towards anything. She's not actively trying to get close to humans, nor is she trying to improve at anything in particular. She feels very stagnant. I mean no hate to anyone who loves her. We all have our favorite characters, and I'm not judging anybody who does like her. I just want to understand her appeal and like her too, because she is soooo fun to play. And I haven't seen any of this talked about, so I was curious if anyone shared any of these opinions I genuinely just want a peaceful discussion and hear some opinions, even disagreeing with me :)
Her insecurity is very common even if she has a thin waist or not. I don’t think it’s being romanticised, they’re just trying to tell a story about an insecure lady who actually doesn’t need to be insecure. I think it’s kind lf a message saying “Everyone sees your beauty but you don’t “

Her white hair makes her look otherworldly and cold, her sleeves reassemble a crane, which is her whole theme, and her braided hair and red cords represent her restraint and the idea that she is sealed. You could argue that her design is just as sexualized, which is valid, but the difference is that Shenhe WOULD wear this, whereas Ganyu's whole character is about being shy about her body. Tbh, shenhe has one of my all time favorite designs in the game.
But kanriah tho... They didn't have a god and relied on themselves and build machines to protect themselves and stuff and if the humans are relying less on the gods then one day kanriah will happen again no? (Just remember that this is just a theory I just came up with, A GAME THEORY!)
Imagine just going for a walk one day, and a ball bumps into you, you notice the like ball has horns and fluffy hair, you then hear a VERY small shrill cry from "something", and the ball seemingly runs away to a random batch of rocks to "hide" but you can still see it cuz it's not very good at hiding and seemingly weeping in fear..
