  • In tribute to the late HRH Prince Philip, here the Choir of St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle sing "Jubilate Deo" by Benjamin Britten. This choral piece was commissioned by Prince Philip himself to be sung in St George's Chapel.
    The Music
Jubilate Deo is a sacred choral composition by Benjamin Britten, a setting of Psalm 100 in the English version from the Book of Common Prayer of 1662: "O be joyful in the Lord, all ye lands".
Britten wrote it in 1961 for St George's Chapel, Windsor, "at the request of H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh". Britten scored the joyful music in C major for four-part choir and organ. A late companion piece to his 1934 Te Deum in C, it is also known as his Jubilate in C. It has been performed and recorded often, including on the Duke's 80th and 90th birthday, and for his funeral service on 17 April 2021.
Excerpted from the BBC One Songs of Praise programme: "The Duke of Edinburgh", broadcast on 11 April 2021.
