  • The Sound of a Ship Engine Room when all Engines are stopped. This is rare, as the Diesel Generators must usually be kept running, to provide Electricity. This Video was recorded while Drydocked, where all Engines must be stopped due to Lack of Sea Cooling Water. Instead, the Ship is supplied via Shore Power here.

Great info! Thank you for sharing.
I am envious of such a clean, organized work environment.

Wow! Thanks for enumerating a lot of the auxiliary systems. I am surprised that the Shore Power has to be hooked to pigtails and individual connectors. One would think there would be a connection panel on deck leading to a changeover switch. Humping all those separate 00 and bigger cables has to be a major pain.

This Shore Connection is used once every five Years, during the Drydocking for Classification Renewal. It might be barely powerful enough to support Loading Operation during "regular" Docking in Ports but is completely inadequate for Discharging Operation, as the Inertgas Plant and especially the Cargo Pumps consume a lot of Power. There are some Efforts to standardise Shore Connection Plugs, but these are more for Cold Ironing during said "regular" Dockings, while the Shore Connection here is explicitly for Drydocking. To my Knowledge, these Efforts are mostly for the more Power-intensife Ships anyway, meaning to say Passenger and large Container Ships. Accordingly, they use 6.6 kV (Container) or even 11 kV (Passenger), while this Ship has just 400 V. Large Tankers require plenty Power in Port too, but these then have Steam-powered Cargo Pumps so Shore Power isn't gonna help much. Plus handling the Shore Connection Cables was one of the easier Jobs in Drydock anyway.

@Genius_at_Work Ah. Didn't consider high voltage. And with so few incidences of use, this indeed makes sense. Thanks!

Water. The Steam Pipe there (for heating the Fuel Oil Pipe) leaked like Piss when the Boilers were shut down a few Days earlier. Cooling down caused it to contract, thus the condensing Steam inside started to leak out. Nobody bothered to remove it yet when I was filming this.
