The iPhone 3GS was my dad’s first iPhone and it’s still pretty cool and it has videos of me when I was little. I managed to move some to my iPad by using email which still works but I decided not to message because it would really be easier if I just emailed.
Cook should never have got rid of Forstall. iOS was amazingly intuitive and beautiful under him. Ok, Maps was a mess in iOS 6 but Ive failed with ‘Antennagate’ and in my opinion, he was incompetent with software design and had far too much power at Apple.
I was 17 when this launched and remember wanting one. I think I had some cheep Motorola flip phone at the time. I had various flip phones the next few years until I got a blackberry. Hated that thing with a passion. Slow, clumsy. The track ball fell out and I decided to get a proper smartphone in early 2010. I wanted the then new 3GS. Sadly AT&T wanted a $500 deposit so I got the EVO 4G and was on Android for the next 8 years. A few htcs and samsungs. Finally got the iPhone x a few months after it came out. I'm now rocking a XS max. (Mostly because I like the larger screen) The iPhone has come a long way and has matured quite a lot.
Nice trip down memory lane, Aaron! I bought my iPhone 2G when it came out and wore it on a belt clip (when that was normal). Everyone who saw it was interested, as you experienced, and often mentioned they wanted to get one. Good times! :)

I got the iPhone 3G as my first iPhone. It was so incredible at the time. However I remember for the first few months you couldn’t receive photos in a text. It would take you to a website link. They were behind on that regard so I was happy when an iOS update fixed that. Since then I have got every second iPhone which correlated with the major numerical updates. 3G - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 and then X. This is the first time I’m keeping one for 3 years as the 11 is nowhere near a notable upgrade for me (due to the change to a 3 year super cycle). I will really really miss 3D Touch when I upgrade. Also have had every 2nd iPad and am currently loving the 11” iPad Pro which I will keep for a while yet. Didn’t really like my old Apple Watch but now my Apple Watch series 5 is my favourite recent apple product - purely for the always-on display.
I never had this one, started with the 3G. Still have it in fact and it still powers in and works!!! How far we have come!! Currently have 11 pro max and love it.

nah I just find old ipods laying around dead and take em home with permission (if found in a house). Only found 2 ipod touch 2nd gens and an original ipad. resurrected the ipad and one of the 2 ipods are completely dead
iPhone was the reason I went for Nexus and Pixel phones to get pure Android experience when I switched platform. No bloatware, direct timely updates from OEM. Had BB curve, then iPhone 4, 5, nexus 6P, pixel 2xl and now iPhone 11 pro. Android phones made me appreciate oled display so hence reason why I went with Pro.
No phone has ever made a bigger impact than this phone....it was unbelievable at the time. I'm not an iPhone user anymore, haven't been for a long time but I did have all of the iPhones up till the 6S and I remember how good it felt to get the first iPhone, was so far ahead in user experience than anything else on the market.
Technology has come along way I remember when Apple announced the iPhone original and my first iPhone I had the iPhone 3g then the iPhone 5 then the SE and now I have the iPhone XR. Brilliant phones my favorite one has to be the XR iOS software is amazing I think it’s brilliant for what Apple Is doing keeping Steve Jobs legacy alive and Tim Cook is doing brilliant! 7+ was my first. I periodically go back and watch the keynote on this phone. Great speech and because of the many times you could tell how much Jobs loved what they created.
Okay, in 13 years they only managed to add wall paper ;-) I had an iPod touch 4 and it was much thinner but about the same size, it was very expensive at the time but it worked great for a couple of years. I know, it was not the first iPod but it had some quality feeling but it became very hot when playing simple games!

Actually I would argue that for a phone, the original iPhone’s camera looked pretty amazing to my then 14 year old eyes. It wasn’t good compared to other digital cameras of the time, but it was a step up from the flip phone cameras without a doubt. At least to an average consumer, which I very much was in high school. But great video nonetheless!
I would really like if they go back building smaller phones again. In my opinion, most phones these days are just too big. There are currently rumors that Apple might release a 5,4 Inch phone this fall, this sound really promising.
Recently upgraded to iPhone XR and am very happy with it. Wasn’t sure about Face ID, but turned out I love it. Thought I’d miss the button but now I’m glad it’s gone. Really love wireless charging. XR is the best iPhone to that point and I’m sure the 11 is even better.
Interesting... I’m still using my Nokia n8 2010 for my runs for music /podcasts...It has a 12 mp camera with a xenon flash and it still takes really good pictures.

Never owned one of these, I believe my mom did though. Remember she wasn't exactly happy with it when it came out. The camera was pretty poor and she just didn't love the experience. Now she has the iPhone XR and couldn't be happier.

I bought one a few years back but sadly the power button is finicky and doesn’t work very well may have some dirt or debris underneath. Otherwise it’s cool to use from time to time or show people the original.
Man I have two of those, both in decent condition. Replaced both screen and battery on one of them recently, still works like a champ. Got some spare parts too, thinking about making a shadow box out of some of those.

I slept out 3 days at Cingular for the 4gb version of this phone. I just got the iPhone 11 and it’s amazing how far we’ve come.
