Happy New Year, my dears! I'm so excited to focus on home renovations this year. I give you a peak into what's on my list in this video and share my top 2 tips for putting the Christmas decor away. Spoiler alert- its not as hard as you think!

  • @patriciamoran9143

Being Catholic, our tradition was always to put up Christmas decorations on the last Sunday of Advent, or in my husband's family, on Christmas Eve. Then it was all left up through Epiphany. But, I've read that in medieval Europe, Advent was the forty days before Christmas, when people were quietly preparing inwardly by fasting and praying just as during Lent to prepare for Easter. Christmas began at 4:00 pm on Christmas Eve, and the excitement continued through Epiphany, but the Christmas season continued for forty days to Candlemas, aka Groundhog Day, being the halfway point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. It makes sense that the decorations were kept up to brighten the dark interiors and keep the air smelling fresh during those days when weather was cold and damp

Fellow Catholic here. I’m so grateful that we have Advent to prepare for the coming of our Saviour and don’t rush through the Christmas Season. Happy Feast of the Epiphany! We also chalk our doorway for the Feast which I love!!!

This practice of the Christmas season lasting until February 2 exists in Orthodox Christian tradition still to this day and did not end in the Middle Ages. February 2 is Candlemas with the blessing of candles and Jesus enters into the Temple. Eastern Christianity has kept this tradition.

@@patriciamoran9143 several churches celebrate nativity on Dec 25. Most of Eastern Europe have Nativity today. It depends on the calendar Gregorian or Julian. The eastern churches could be different from each other by 13 days. Candlemas may be Feb. 2 or Feb 25. We begin to align calendars for the spring lent for Pascha which is May 5 this year. Confusing but Christ is the timeless one. It’s man made time and calendars but Christ has no beginning or end.

The first day of winter is Dec. 21, and the twelfth day of Christmas is Jan. 5. I don’t take Christmas down until Jan. 6, and I leave winter seasonal decor at least through January. It seems silly to decorate for spring in the middle of winter.

And Christmas is until the Epiphany Jan 6th. There seems to be a rush to get through Christmas when Christmas is a RELIGIOUS SEASON , not just one day. Especially among RUclipsrs and decorators it’s absolutely ridiculous.

Thank you! ❤️🎄So many people think the twelve days of Christmas is during Advent, but the first day of Christmas is Dec. 25th and you’re right it continues through the fifth until the Epiphany on Jan 6th. That is when we celebrate the visitation of the three Wisemen. It’s sad that most of the world does not understand that.

Happy New Year. Why does everyone want to abolish Winter? I love winter I love the hats, scarves, coats, boots, cold weather, snow I love it all. The stores have Spring stuff out already and it is really annoying. Valentines' day and easter in Dec got on my nerves too. We need winter and the cold temps to kill the germs. It is a beautiful time of year, and no one appreciates it, and it makes me so sad. Even my own husband gets down when it gets dark early, I love it because that's when I do most of my crocheting lol...Maybe it's because I am an artist and the winter colors of steel blue skies, dead leaves rust, bare trees grey makes me just as happy as all of the colors of Spring idk I just appreciate all of the seasons. Just a winter rant to start off the new year and I am here to give three cheers for Winter, hip hip hooray! hip hip horray! hip hip horray! Beautiful greens, wintry browns, colorful berries and winter birds . Im so excited people are finally getting on board with this ! I've been doing a winter theme after Christmas for many many years. I live in an 1880 apartment and using period nods to winter makes me happy. My mantle takes center stage. Winter prints of my chestnut tree full of snow on the branches, my garden in deep snow are framed. My Grandchildren shoveling (Printed in B&W) will be added this winter.

I take down the things that scream Christmas right after the holiday....even the day after if I can but I leave up the winter pieces....keeping a lot of the undecorated pine trees, some green pine wreaths and snowy decor. I've kept my celluloid reindeer collection out with my bottle brush trees on the mantle ..will keep them out for a month or so. I like to start Valentines Day with some heart shaped pieces and roses about mid January thru mid Feb and then I'll start putting out more touches of green foliage. Since Easter is early this year, I'll be bringing out the bunnies a little sooner.

Mrs Dan Dare here. I'm from the UK. I was wondering if other people from the UK agree that it is less typical to decorate seasonally than it appears to be in the US? I love watching home decor & styling channels, but honestly, I don't feel I need to specifically decorate for any season except Christmas. This isn't to say my home never changes, though. So many things in that shop I would want!!! LOL!! For several years now I've kept Christmas decor up until at least Epiphany, the true end of the Christmas season. It partially came from the fact that my son-in-law is Hispanic and they do most of their gifts on Kings Day, January 6 commemorating the gifts the Magi brought the Christ child. I love that! Even then it is a slow process simply reversing the order it went up and over days. I never decorate all in one day nor remove all in one day. I switch out for more wintery items until February when I bring in arrangements with deep red flowers and lots of candles, signaling the approach of Valentines.

I just removed the red candles and fresh greenery(that wasn't so fresh anymore). I just don't feel ready to completely let go of the reason for all seasons just yet. Please don’t paint the vanity!
    Please!
    Your bathroom needs the warmth.
If you DO paint (eventually), please for the sake of the wood and anyone who gets that piece later (and it will outlive us all), coat it quickly with shellac, 2 coats in 45 min.
It’ll be dry in 2 hrs.
The shellac gets into the wood grain and not the paint, making the paint much much easier to strip later. Shellac acts as a primer so that’s all you’ll need.
