On December 24, 1862, Confederate officers and their guests gathered with the elite of Vicksburg for a Christmas Eve Ball. Dr. William T. and Emma Balfour opened their doors for what was expected to be a night of merriment and relaxation.
Instead, the quiet, sleepy city would soon play host to 30,000 Federal guests trying to take Vicksburg.
This five minute and seven second video tells the exciting story of when war came to Vicksburg.
