My father was one of those who bought this exact model, colour & year 'R' reg 98' about the time this aired (2000) for £12k & 17yrs later he still owns it albeit SORN'ed. His is in the process of restoration the only difference is that he has the cream leather interior. I remember when in sports mode this car had some serious performance. We thought it was ugly at the time compared to the 1994 Scorpio he owned previously but it has grown on us over the years.
It's one of the ugliest cars out there. It's so ugly it's beautiful. I'm searching to buy one now because they are cheap and I love them I don't know why. :)
I think it looks a lot better than the original version of it, which had that massive ring of chrome around the grille, which gave it a rather heinous 'big mouth' appearance.
Recently I have been proposed to buy Scorpio 2 universal 2,4L 1996y. I have seen it today. I like it. Could anybody advice me is that possible to find auto spare parts for Scorpio 2 in the USA, Britain, Germany??? Thank you.
Only 11 left on the road. Remarkable considering they only stopped production in 1998 and when you consider there’s more MK3 Cortinas left and the Scorpio has far better build quality. Quite a few SORN’d though.
I am looking at getting one of these in the new year. I would welcome any advice about this car from those that have experience of ownership as I will use mine for work commutting and leisure drives :).
I currently own a 2006 Ford Mustang with the 4 liter version of this engine. With emissions equipment it only produces about 200-205 horsepower but it does sound beautiful. My sister had a 1967 Mustang with the 4.9 liter V8 and my V6 powered Mustang sounds like how I remembered that 1967 model sounded. Only downside to this engine is that it isn't all that economical considering the available power. My car has a 5 speed automatic transmission and has never done better than 24.5 miles per gallon.
I am looking at buying an 80s model Scorpio as that is all we got here in the U.S. To my eyes the 80s model looks fairly decent, but the later models? If I had been in charge of design at Ford in the late 80s-early 90s I think I would have been a bit embarrassed to be associated with these cars. Aside from the huge, though somewhat groundbreaking headlights, this car isn't really identifiable as a Ford. And the same problem exists at the rear. But the " killer " is that the car looks too narrow. Admittedly, the earlier cars share that fault, but as long as you opted for the hatchback or wagon, it wasn't quite as obvious that it was...or at least looked a bit narrow.
Reputation, Image and the styling let the car down. When it came out in the mid 90ties I wondered what kind of drugs the designer as well as the chairmen took to produce this car... I bought a 2,9 24V for little money last year and it took lots of efforts to get it back on the road as the wiring loom in the engine compartment falls apart completely on these Scorpios... Nowadays the styling still is not everbodies darling but - lets say - it turned from ugly to interesting.... and these Scorpios are all gone. The car drives quite good actually. Very comfy, good seats, the plastic wood (Ford called it Ecowood...) never cracks or falls apart compared to the genuine veneer in the old Jags... The engine is OK, though they seem to have timing chain issues as well apart from the wiring trouble. The auto box is a pimped 3 speed with a kind of overdrive... Thats Ford that is I suppose...
I have a Mustang with the larger 4 liter version of this engine. While mine has a 5 speed automatic transmission for " better " fuel mileage, I do agree that fuel economy versus power is not all that great. According to the computer display, mine gets 24.5 mpg. Nothing I do seems to change that number, either. Even with 30% more displacement the horsepower is the same 200-205.
What were the Ford designers thinking (drinking) when they designed that and how it could come into production? Was it out of desperation like the Renault Vel Satis, another ugly large car of that period.
Nobody liked the plug ugly monster.from every angle it sucks. Granada man would rather have a sierra or increasingly get vauxhall carlton or honda. We actually still hwve 1 near me and its a pile of rubbish

I think it looks a lot better than the original version of it, which had that massive ring of chrome around the grille, which gave it a rather heinous 'big mouth' appearance.

Looks like a Hyundai or Lada priora from the front and like a Toyota, Lincoln mix from the rear. Beautiful car!
So this car was £24,000 when it was brand new in 1997 money which is about £53,000 today.

My grandad used to have one, in light blue, I sat in it often

i love this model of ford
I think that Ford deliberately screwed up the Granada/Scorpio to avoid having an internal competitor to Jaguar.
Perfect for banger racing!
Why sell it if it looses value keep the car it still works right
Car doesn't look bad
Ci piace,anche s.w.😍
Even though the styling is kinda awkward, I wish ford would have sold it in America, probably would have sold well
+B Gerbs They tried in 1988-90. Look up "Merkur".
WindowsLover6767 That one looked pretty nice. This thing is ugly.
Nice 🐼 car
the headlights always reminded me of steak and kidney puddings
From a swedish car magazine: "looks like melting ice cream"..
And to think this was Fords answer to challenge Mercedes!
what a joke, the last generation was so fucking ugly

ALLOY WHEEEEIILS
Классный!
Only a private buy mug buys a new car. 20% of the price is VAT plus depreciation. I always get a 2 year old car with low miles and service history
But if you held onto it, prices are on the rise. Another 30-40 years and you might get your money back.
24v gave 22 mpg and was slower than a turbo diesel. Overrated engine, mine died at122k.
