    The interviewee got it a little bit wrong. The cutback is for immigrants who can't speak English and are being exploited by employers who sponser them and charging fees, working excessive hours without pay and no days off. Non emglish speakers are also being ripped off by immigration agents charging huge prices to file free documents. Agents in countries of origin are charging and promising migrants jobs that don't exist. They arrive and work illegally because they can't afford to get home and their families need money. They are predominantly Indian, exploited by their own culture, and Phillipina, who arrive to a non existing job. Basic English will help them navigate their rights once they get here, but it's the country of origin that's at fault. Raising the bar to enter makes agents more accountable.

      So basically it will help curb expIoitation? If what you're saying is true, then that's good. Unfortunately, many will interpret these measures as a victory for raclsm, and celebrate because of this idea.

      Yes, the new rules are to help curb exploitation. Many of the workers are employed by their own people that have New Zealand residency. There has been under employment and some firms especially in construction have failed and gone into bankruptcy.

      @TD1237 I agree. This is how this government dressed it. There is terrible exploitation, and migrants are charged upward of NZ$20,000. This awful government are, however, racist and I don't like them.

    The phenomenon of people of Asian descent relocating to Europe or Anglo-Saxon majority countries for work is often referred to as immigration. Conversely, when individuals of European origin move to Asian countries for work, they are commonly referred to as expatriates. This disparity in terminology raises important questions about the perception of migration and the inherent biases within it.

    • @riptyurass302
      @riptyurass302 8 месяцев назад +70

      That's because most Europeans that move to Asia aren't intending to live there permanently. Their visa is usually limited to work permits and they have limitations on getting citizenship. Immigrants move to European/Western countries fully intending to start a new life there and eventually get citizenship. That is the main difference, expatriates may move to Malaysia but never will become a Malaysian citizen while a Malaysian that moves to New Zealand usually intends to become a New Zealand citizen.
      The reason for this is simple, the western expat has nothing to gain by becoming a Malaysian citizen (In fact it's a negative because Malaysia bans dual citizenship) while the Malaysian that leaves Malaysia usually is tired of the political instability, racial discrimination and unrest in their country. Calling a westerner an 'expat' has nothing to do with the race he is but rather his intentions on being there and the reality is a very large majority of the time the Asian is moving to the west for permanent reasons while the westerner is moving to Asia for temporary ones.

      Most westerners who live in Asia do not intend to become citizens. They also do not suffocate government/health care infrastracture because they pay for it themselves. Asians who live abroad benefit from "free services" that can only take care of a number of citizens.

    • @deanc4088
      @deanc4088 8 месяцев назад +26

      @@riptyurass302 It has everything to do with race. When a "Westerner" moves to Japan or Thailand, Bali etc with the intention of living there permanently they are still referred to as "expats". If someone from Japan or Singapore moves to a Western country they are referred to as "immigrants" yet both acts, the act of moving to another country to live permanently is the same. Yet, if someone from Malaysia only works abroad but has no intention of living there permanently they are not referred to as expats but are assumed to be immigrants. Just like the automatic assumption is that "Westerners" have no plans to live in a non-Western country permanently. And the fact that you think a Westerner has "nothing to gain" ignores many factors. Westerners will move to make their money go further by living in a place that is cheaper to live. Or they met someone.

    At the moment the Australian govt, is only playing lip service to cutting back immigration to appease the growing number of Australians who are voicing their concerns about over immigration. Last month a record number of immigrants arrived here more than 100,000 in just a single month. We are seeing more new arrivals a year than the populations of some of our largest towns and all in the middle of a housing crisis..Sorry but as an Australian I am more interested in the future of my own children and grand children than looking after the needs of foreigners. 760,000 people are in this country on tempoorary student visas which may make the education industry really profitable but as a country of only 26M people how exactly are we supposed to to house, find employment or provide essential services for all these people ?. There needs to be a halt put on immigration until the infrastructure can catch up or at least cut it right back as they did in the past when it became unstainable. Other countries being targetted by immigrants like NZ, Canada, UK are finding themselves in the same position and their citizens are saying enough is enough.

      I do agree on your view of Australian first, however a lot of effort needs to be made before we shut the door.
      International student pays up to 70% of the cost to run an university, 20% by govt and 10% by Australian students. If we stop international students, HECS alone will not be enough to fund the university. There is a reason international students are called cash cows unfortunately.

      We have the same issues here in Singapore. Over 40% of our population are foreign workers. Mind you that excludes foreigners with the permanent resident permits that are counted as the local population. Plenty of challenges in terms of employment opportunities, bias hiring practices or housing prices that inevitably has a spill over effect to the rising cost of living.
      A common gripe here is that we have mandatory military service for citizens, however we're protecting people that were provided a better life and opportunity for growth but will abandon our country at the first signs of trouble. The gov expects us to die for these people?!?!?

    I've not been to NZ before. There is chaos in various parts of the world. Wars in Ukraine, Russia, Myanmar, Iran, Middleeast. Particularly in Palestine, Isreal. There is bad economic and political situations in China, and probably in USA. There potential for conflict in China-Taiwan-Philippines area. There are areas in Africa which may have internal problems. As we have seen, illegal entry of migrants into USA from mexico suggest problems in South and Central America countries. The recent kidnapping of Isreali civilian hostages with killings of thousands and the subsequent killings of many fold palestinans, shows that UN is feeding a problem. UN people don't want to be there. It is a hellhole, they employ associates which probably misuse the provisions, and the world is feeding a population that is filled with hatred. and the muslim world just do not have population control. NZ is at a far corner of the world. I heard it is a pleasant place. Mountains are rugged, there are goats and wild cattles. Recently heard boat people are arriving in Australia again. A pragmatic approach definitely is migrant control. Mass demonstrations in Australia, usa universities shows that there is cultural differences. The immigration policies for the past 3 decades are too liberal everywhere. China probably has inserted some operatives into UK, USA, Australia. China grow too big . The ego is big, breathing down Australia. The world fed into that for the past two or 3 decades of phenomenal growth in China through global Capitalism. The richers simply made so much money that I donno how to count the wealth. Economic boom, and now a warming planet at various places. Australia has a rather harsh environment in that large parts are arid deserts and they are not going to change it. There will be times, Australia will experience heat waves, and the Australians will move to NZ. The heatwaves are currently in south east asia. Cambodia Thailand Myanmar, these are dry hot places often having temperatures up to 40deg C for a few months of the year. Saudi futuristic cities construction seems to be slowing down. Back to USA, the people streaming into Texas through Mexico. I heard there are two incidents of squatters killed people and some gangsters sneaked in as asylum seekers.Border patrol is simply very difficult and dangerous drugs got through and drugs killed some people. People is human Capital. When a country is able to harness people, it can grow but often a time, there is chaos instead. In my opinion, some border controls through various policies are definitely needed. UN is too naive and keep trying to grow world population to a dangerous level.

    I think that it’s cool to live in another country but the reality is that sometimes the best thing, if you have to or want to work abroad, is to keep jumping countries and bring your skills back home or to somewhere that needs it. Yeah I may be privileged because of where I was born but I see a lot of expats moving out of the country to cheaper places and kind of pushing up prices for locals making it hard for them. And here in America I see that it’s hard to get a well paying or even blue collar job because you’re being undermined by immigrant cheap labor that we cannot and should not compete with. The rich get richer by using these exploitative methods and we shouldn’t stand for it. Endless immigration does have an effect on even a healthy economy. When there is no shortage of people you can exploit, it is no surprise when things go bad.

    Unfortunately New Zealanders have become lazy , we used to be known for our hard work ethic , now we have many who would rather be on benefits and stay at home , our social welfare policies which were originally designed to help out a few for a short time have become a lifestyle choice for too many , drugs and alcohol abuse have taken a toll on our workforce as well no doubt , and we live in a time where we have become greedy , 7 days shopping , the consumer mindset of living beyond our means , rampant inflation , money is becoming worthless, average house price in 1974 was 16k , now it’s 700-1mil ! Dad worked , mum stayed at home , life was family and simple, oh how things have changed , an Asian person was unique and exotic , travel was a trip to Rotorua , dinner was roast beef , potatoes and cabbage , we worked hard and played rugby in the weekends whether you liked it or not , we manufactured most of everything we needed , the country was quite well off and people were happy , here we are in 2024 and quite frankly it’s a circus , not only in NZ but when I look around tge world (easy with the internet , another addiction) I see chaos , much created by the west , our leaders have much to answer for going into numerous countries and causing death, destruction and anarchy, now proxy wars , a few getting super rich from much misery and no wonder people look to escape these countries to look for peace and prosperity and ways to support families back home . My parents helped Cambodians settle here in NZ back in the 70s , what beautiful people they are , so hard working and talented and generous, I don’t profess to have tge answers and this is just a rant for my own mental preservation, my heart is heavy when I look at the state of the world , I’m a 5th Gen NZer , Maori, Irish , English bloodlines but a NZer I am , all I ask is respect this little place on the backside of the world, we are lucky to be here and let’s hope for better days ahead where we can all work along beside each other in peace no matter your creed or culture.

      Because they didn't have the power to enforce it. Just because you were first doesn't mean you're entitled to the land, historically the invaders massacred everyone until no one before them had a claim. It wasn't until the 1800s where governments were able to enforce their claims against normal peoples through law and order. Not only this, but the Maori couldn't even get along with different tribes. How were they supposed to unite and kick the brits out if they were too busy eating each other, just dwindling their own population.
