I know you've said that you love the prismacolor colorless blender, a lot of colourists love the xaran d'ache which is pricey - my absolute favourite is the derwent blender pencil. It works with pretty much all my pencils - and a light hand will give you a magical blend
I have 4 cats 2 old ones a three year old and a kitten I know what you mean not only have cola stains I also have chewed tips of pencils when I'm trying to work but who cares they are our babies love your colouring can't wait for more vids xx
I have literally thousands of colouring books lol i have nearly every Lulu mayo . My favourite are the mythorgrafic book especially kerby Rosannes.another favourite is Joanna basford , hanna kalzon, max brenner and monsoon i have a lot of favourites to be fair i just appreciate good art i don't much like ones that have patterns in like dogs with weird patterns. I love angels faires unicorns and real looking children babies mostly girls as i like ones that look like my possible daughter going off what she looked like and her eldest youngest brother x
I love your finished pages! Beautiful color work. I've been coloring for around 2 years now and you are so right about getting to know your medium and how it performs. I only have 5 books. I used to have 7 but I donated a Christmas themed book as I bought it way before I understood what quality illustrations are and it really wasn't what I wanted. Johanna Basford's Christmas book will be my next purchase. I also donated one of the Mythographic books (I can't remember which one) and I absolutely regret it because I was so intimidated by the illustrations. Now that I have some experience under my belt, I wish I had that book back 😂 I absolutely do not recommend those books for beginners but I wish I would have had the forethought to just keep it instead of donating it now that I have a bit more self confidence. Jane Maday has some really cute books, mostly flowers and little animals and birds but all of her books are one sided and she uses really good paper, at least the one I have does) and I've used alcohol markers in her books before. You will get bleed through but it doesn't matter because her pages are blank on the back side of all her illustrations. I have to say that Johanna Basford' is hands down my favorite illustrator. I know lots of people rave about the Romantic Country books by Eriy but honestly, the one I have isn't my favorite and probably won't buy another. It's a nice book with quality paper and her illustrations are really good, it's just not my favorite. Her line work is somewhat bold and I much prefer thinner line work. ❤

@@apicturedpurpose buying books is so hard because there are always going to be pages that don't interest me and books can be expensive but it's really the only way to start finding out what you, as a colorist, really enjoy. It's by far the thing I struggle with the most. 🙂 The story about your cat spilling coffee on your page really hit home. In Worlds of Wonder there's a picture of a cute little teepee tent with really cute potted plants and what not, I picked out the perfect color palette for my dear cousin and had been working on it for probably two weeks and then I accidentally cut my finger washing dishes but didn't notice it. Cut to me sitting back down to color and I notice my finger seems to be hurting and when I look down there's tiny drops of blood right where my finger touches the page and I must have smeared one because now there's this big smear of blood right on the page! Ugh. It was such a tiny cut but boy did it bleed. I almost want to buy the book again just for that page but I really can't justify that right now 🙂 Maybe after I buy her Christmas book.
@@sjfergusonoh no! I totally understand how you feel, I’ve definitely contemplated purchasing another copy of Rooms of Wonder just because I’m such a perfectionist. But maybe it’s a good lesson for me to remember that “perfect” isn’t the goal. It’s all about having fun and being creative at the end of the day ❤
My first two books were also small victories and rooms of Wonder. I really love your japan train page. I feel your coloring fits perfect ro Rita's books. I think you would create awesome colorings in her Europe and Africa book as well.

I dislike Amazon paper as well. I am one of the few people who don’t really like Johanna Basford books. The images are to small for me. My first book was a Hanna Karlzon book and she’s in my top 3 since the beginning. Ps: great and colorful coloring pages! Unbelievable what you already can do after 9 months. And all with pencils! 😮 Thanks for sharing.
Like most, Johanna was my first colouring artist too. The coffee stains in Rooms of Wonder are just another memory and story of your wonderful kitten. 😊 I love how you embrace colour, I love the idea of bright beautiful colours, but whenever I pick up my books and pencils, I always end up picking more earthy and jewel tone colours.
I'm the opposite haha! Whenever I try to do a more muted palette, I always end up going bright again 😅I think we all have a certain colour palette that we just naturally gravitate towards.

I too purchased Johanna Basford's books at the beginning of my coloring journey. I now have more books than I could color in my life time. BUT, my new favorite illustrator is Kerby Rosanes. At first I was so intimidated to color in his books that I wouldn't buy them. Then I watched Karen on her RUclips channel Mycolourfulcountrylife and that sealed the deal. I now own all of his books and have many completed pages in them. I agree that watching others on RUclips gives us inspiration and valuable coloring lessons. I am so grateful to the coloring community on RUclips. BTW, I enjoy your format and your Kitty Archie.

Hello!!! I can relate so much to you. I started coloring since October last year and I’ve been adding so many books and supplies so quickly. I started with JB too, but with Worlds of Wonders! I loved the floating islands as well. Now I got the Small Victories, Lost Ocean and Rooms of Wonders (I still haven’t touched this one). The Adorable Town book I got it to use markers and unwind my mind. With markers you don’t even care about the paper, and because it’s one sided you don’t have to worry about bleed thru. Liked your videos ❤ keep going and enjoy your coloring. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just something that makes you happy!

I am a sewer too and I haven't coloured the sewing room in Johanna's book either. I am terrified of ruining it as well! Sakura Mircon pigment pens are great for adding bits to books and they won't run either and they come in different thicknesses :)
Start small and grow at your own pace. That's my motto. As many others i also started with J.B. books (Rooms and Worlds of Wonder) but then I bought some really cheap and easy books from a bookshop to practice more (blending, colour theory and all that jazz). I also sticked to my 3 sets of coloured pencils and few water and alchool markers. I'd like to try other mediums but i'm not confident enough .. yet. For video ideas: if you're up to it, i'd like to see a colour along (any page will do). I'm not asking for a complete page: 10 minutes of whatever you're colouring is enough. Just to see your approach and the way you colour (yes, i am a nosey one). 'till the next time. Cheers from Italy. Dan 🧡

I believe the Adorable Town book is an “Amazon print” which means the paper sucks lol. I have found that if you prep the paper with a thin coat of either Golden Satin Glaze or gesso, you will have better results with pencils.

I certainly would never have thought that 2 coloring books would suddenly become 35 books for me in the space of 7 months!😅 And I really had to agree with you when you said that we support the artists with our purchases, Yes, that's true and it calms me down a lot when I have a little bit of a guilty conscience about being addicted to good coloring books 😇...

Try Denyse Klette coloring books. I adore her style. Tyfs! I enjoyed watching.
