Your video just saved me $1985 from having to install new kitchen countertops, which would have cost me $2000. You're awesome Joe for sharing. (No contractor will ever tell you there is an easy diy way)
Thank you for this video. The scratch on my laminate kitchen worktop is now only visible when it catches the light. I used a black Sharpie, kitchen roll, and furniture polish.
Great hack - really helped with my newly installed PLATINUM CYCLONE LAMINATE countertops that are meant to be anti scratch!!! - Thank you 😊 Saved my builder a £1,000
My coutertop has a clumpy scratches. I think, my roommate used steel wool to clean it! and it was terrible. Do you have any idea if I can get rid of the scratches ?
Hi Joe I have exactly the same color countertop. Did you say midnight blue for the marker? can t find it anywhere, even on the Sharpie website. Tks a lot
I have a link in the description. The marker is in the bottom row , third one from the left. It doesnt list the color name and i dont think you can buy it individually.
I accidentally scratched a new countertop while I was installing it. It was black with tan marble. Sharpie to the rescue!! Who'd a thought. Thanks for the tip. Worked like a charm.
@@Doityourselfwithjoe hi I’ve got a black diamanté kitchen work top with smudge marks and scratch’s but light loads of little ones. My worktop is only 7 months I need to know with this work and will it be black? So I need to polish after to bring the shine? Thanks
My kitchen counter is exactly the same color and I sprayed a bleach cleaner on an area by mistake which made the color lighten. Is there a fix for the stain?
I was afraid this was not going to work, but it did. I gently dabbed the sharpie over the scratches then wiped quickly. I had a few small scratched and thought the sharpie was to dark, but when I used the Murphy Oil Soap Original Wood Cleaner( bought from the local hardware store or CVS ), it looked like new. The Murphy Oil Soap Original Wood Cleaner is a must. It made the sharpie look amazing/ I did 2 light coatings of the sharpie wiping super fast and then the Murphy Oil Soap Original Wood Cleaner I literally worked small and quickly, and it looks like new. Thank you so much for this video.
Not really. It may color the scratch, however if it is really deep you will see the line of the scratch. This will require a laminate seam fill. I have tried fixing some deeper scratches with colored spray paint and clear spray paint with some success, however they are still some what visible. I will try to make a video on this.
Its called Murphy's Oil soap. You can also try WD- 40 on a rag. Im not sure if the WD-40 will remove the sharpie pen. You can also try Pledge furniture polish. If you try any of the others let me know how they work out please.
THIS REALLY WORKS !!!!!
I came across your video while searching for scratch repairs. This has saved me a fortune, Many Thanks from the UK .

Hi Joe. Do you think this trick would work also on a HPL surface?
My kitchen counter is exactly the same color and I sprayed a bleach cleaner on an area by mistake which made the color lighten. Is there a fix for the stain?
Where can you buy Murphys oil soap I'm English and would prefer to buy in store x thankyou
Im in northwest Indian and it is available in our grocery stores. You can also find it in Menards, Home Depot. Also I think Ace hardware has it.
What soap i dont have that in australia what can i use
Thinking of trying the Sharpie but sealing it with one of the car scratch clear lacquer repair pen
I believe that will work. Sorry i didnt answer this earlier. It just came across my feed. Let me know if it worked
Hi do you use the Murphys neat or diluted?
Any tips for a scratch in wood effect work top?
is it laminate or real wood?
Laminate
How about light colored laminate?
Yup I have a deeper scratch in white laminate. What filler is best?
Don't. You'll stain it.
Are you using diluted Murphy's or straight from the bottle?
straight from the bottle with a dampened rag
Will anything other then oil soap work?
never tried anything else. If you do please share.

Dude wasn't thinking and used a Stanley knife on a blotchy green countertop.. :( it was only lightly done and I'm freaking out!. What should I do!?!?!
What kind of soap it is again sorry?
