@@josephius Honestly the yoke itself was never a problem. The stalks are. Also, the placement of the horn. If they would have just put in a fancier Model Y Steering Wheel in the Model S they would have made the car so much better.
It is, Amazon is basically direct to market to China, and they are often copycat products of American brands. Except most Americans don't care, as long as they save money.

the heads up display is honestly incredible for 200 bucks. they are using all the data that’s already there, and teslas have a lot, so it’s got a ton of features. but to also be touchscreen, plug and play, it has wireless car play, and the aftermarket wheel works with it too?? makes me want to buy a tesla

Same here in the US. My Model Y Performance was in the shop and the loaner was a standard Model S, but it had the yoke... it was terrible. Worst part is they got rid of the blinker stalk and moved the switch to the wheel. So bad.

As someone who races cars occasionally, the topless steering wheel is fine as long as the steering is fast enough lock-to-lock. If it's normally geared steering then a round wheel would be much preferred.

Yep, raced sprints and short track in younger years; project cars entire life; buying a tesla model s plaid was the biggest mistake I’ve ever made for hobby. Now have a 9second 4 door car that I can bring to grocery store or bring kid to school. Has ruined the hobby for me.

Any honest company would call their "full self driving" cruise control+, because that is what it really is. Also Elon's obsession with "indestructible" cars is going to get people killed for sure. Other companies have made significantly more advances in the EV field, are further ahead with self-driving software and don't constantly lie to their customers and investors. Would love to get an EV, but it wouldn't be a tesla and with my job, it isn't feasible because I have to drive long distances to places with bad infrastructure where I wouldn't be able to charge my EV for the drive home.

You couldn't pay me intentionally swap a steering wheel for a yoke. Besides that, those are some great aftermarket items. They 100% address real shortcomings of many factory Teslas.
As someone who owns a Tesla, and 3 non Teslas…nothing they showed is a short coming. It’s just hard for “car guys” to admit it. Teslas has a basically non functional cruise control (thanks cameras) and auto wipers that are worse than sticking a squeegee out the window. Paint that’s thinner than a matchbox car and a front trunk cover so thin a baby could dent it. It’s not perfect, but it’s a hell of a drivers car if people could check their ego and bias.

It's not the best solution, but I have a WRX and I put a short, wide laundry basket with towels in it in my trunk for groceries. Works really well and I get comments in the parking lot every once in a while.

If you have like a remote detect thing or like a car camera, that shelf can come in handy. Prefer screws over magnets for more permanent installation, but I think the shelf is pretty ok.
I can’t deny some of the mods are really worth it. I wanted to swap the rear usb a ports out on the fan vent but found out I could get a whole rear screen with climate control and usb c for like $200 lol. Also idk why but the rims on our 3 stick out beyond the tire so rim rash isn’t a problem on any other of our cars.
@@zacharyeversole they are the biggest pain in the ass to work on comparatively to a combustion engine. Also the way the company works ties u in to spend an obscene amount of money within 2 decades of owning a tesla. Never really able to do any work on it without going to them, not to mention the battery cells will stop holding a charge properly after a few years(that’s without even taking unideal climate into consideration) so you will need to pay another 10k minimum just for ur car to keep being drivable, otherwise it rots into a write off. Also every one of those battery cells is essentially a fire bomb waiting to go off and set off the rest if it takes one solid hit. Elon has literally publicly said he doesn’t understand the value of making a car that’s fun to drive. He thinks rwd is a stupid design and doesn’t get why anyone would drive something that be prone to drifting like a 9-11, even though thats the basis of a huge part of our community. In simple terms it’s the opposite of everything we love about cars and all we hear constantly is how great they are and how everybody should get one while u feel like some conspiracy theorist trying to explain why it’s a terrible decision unless u want to completely waste close to 100k
@@deadrose1802 so it’s because people have been misinformed? Because you can buy the new model 3 performance for $50000 and it’s a great track car it even has a drift mode. Don’t know what you’re on about. My 2015 model s with 250000 miles hasn’t ever needed a brake job, or an oil change, or a transmission flush, or an emissions test. It’s been the most solid car I’ve ever owned, and with free supercharging for the life of the car, I’ll probably just swap the battery once it dies; but that won’t be for a while still , reporting 82% battery health. Talk to some long time owners and you’ll hear similar stories. It’s mind boggling to hear some of the arguments against them after having driven one for almost a decade now. And my car still feels more modern than some of the new cars I’ll get into nowadays.
Have a model y performance, I love the car. Doesn't mean I still can't appreciate a ICE car. Love me some noise. Have the rimcase in red to accent my red car and black wheels and the screen rotation mount. Like them both.

The wheel protectors I'd wonder how long they are going to hold up with freeway driving, bumpy roads and so on. The bag hook, while a nice gadget, just has me thinking - why are there exposed bolts like that in a supposedly premium car?
Tesla doesn't have economy of scale, so that is passed onto the buyer. Meaning Teslas have less bang for the buck. I bet the Taurus mach-E has better build and drive quality than the model Y
My Mazda3 has better build quality. Body lines are perfect, body lines on my dad’s Model S aren’t great, my mom’s Model X… it’s painful. My car when new sold for like $21k. The Model S was $83k, the X was $101k. Great cars but very poorly built. On a different note, I wondered the same on the wheel protectors

The problem with the display (I have one in my Model Y) is that it blocks a crap load of your air flow from the stupid tesla vents. I need to find someone who can 3D print some air guides to fix this. Also, since the display is a touch screen I went ahead and got a yoke style wheel so you don't have to reach through the opening in the round wheel to touch the touch screen. Also, alway have been a car guy, you should see the screaming on Tesla forums saying "that will void your warranty!!!!!" every time you mention doing ANYTHING to your Tesla.
Imagine rolling down the highway minding your business then you take a chunk of the Tesla's "wheel case" in your windshield after it falls off and goes flinging backwards

As a nerd who actually drives with his hands at 10 and 2, I would also be miserable with a "steering yoke". And props to "business genius" Elon for bluntly turning down useful feature suggestions from prospective customers.
My contractor special, base model Ford Super Duty has a bag holder on the passenger side of the center dash, most useful little hook I've ever found in a vehicle
On Aliexpress these products can be had for a fraction of the Amazon price, if you can wait one month to receive them. The yoke only makes sense on a Cybertruck with digital proportional turnless (wheel only move 30deg to each side) steer by wire, anywhere else you will never find your turn signal buttons on the center.

The model 3 performance is a serious car! And more affordable than anything that can comes close to performance. Acceleration is un matched. But being able to control the power from front wheel drive to rear and anywhere in between.
I'm on the edge of being that guy too. Tested one last weekend and I had a blast. I definitely don't like a lot of it's quirks tho and my wife would rip her hair out if she had to drive the thing while her car is in the shop. I wish other manufacturers would catch up to Tesla so I can get an equivalent but with basic car functionality like interior door handles, physical HVAC controls and not needing to go through several menus to open the glove box, electronically, for no reason. Also, the Regen braking needs physical controls to adjust. The ioniq 5 got that, and general UI right, too bad range and fun aren't on Tesla's level. The Tesla handles better too, go figure.
I still maintain that physical gauges are better for stuff like speed then digital ones. You can get a vague idea of your speed in your peripheral vision just by the position of the needle without having to actually read the numbers.
The speedo I can’t get behind. It’s a small version of what you have in the center. I’ve never had a problem seeing my speed or anything. Drive different ones all day. What’s weird is getting in my Camry after. Feels so gutless

@@willanderson5088 I used to drive 1000+ miles a week, and when in a different car I could easily be fooled about how fast I was going (suspension, how close to the ground, road noise, etc can really fool you). I drive a lot of rental cars, and it was amazing how different each car felt from a speed standpoint.

You can get a round steering wheel on the new Model S and X in Europe.
The yoke only became an option after they started offering a normal wheel as standard.

The behind tray screen is actually useful to prevent stuff back there from rolling around as ive experienced. So its a great product.
I agree, it could be pretty useful. Especially as a place for your dashcam.
I 3D printed mine for virtually free, and with a regular box of tissues that you can see from the top, it's a no brainer, I love it!

You nowadays have a normal (roundish) steering wheel in Europe on the plaid cars. The yoke is an additional 1000 euro upgrade.

As someone who owns a Tesla, and 3 non Teslas…nothing they showed is a short coming. It’s just hard for “car guys” to admit it. Teslas has a basically non functional cruise control (thanks cameras) and auto wipers that are worse than sticking a squeegee out the window. Paint that’s thinner than a matchbox car and a front trunk cover so thin a baby could dent it. It’s not perfect, but it’s a hell of a drivers car if people could check their ego and bias.

Just got a model y and the aftermarket accessories are pretty impressive. Having 2 interiors for as many cars that they sell makes it worth the RND.
If I was able to install one, i'd totally use that trunk grocery hook thing in my impreza. I hate when I take a turn too quick and I hear the crashing in the back
It's not the best solution, but I have a WRX and I put a short, wide laundry basket with towels in it in my trunk for groceries. Works really well and I get comments in the parking lot every once in a while.
The sub trunk area in the Model Y is great for this reason

The aftermarket, relatively plug and play mods for these things is huge... and most are surprisingly affordable.
If you have like a remote detect thing or like a car camera, that shelf can come in handy.
Prefer screws over magnets for more permanent installation, but I think the shelf is pretty ok.

I can’t deny some of the mods are really worth it. I wanted to swap the rear usb a ports out on the fan vent but found out I could get a whole rear screen with climate control and usb c for like $200 lol. Also idk why but the rims on our 3 stick out beyond the tire so rim rash isn’t a problem on any other of our cars.
my model 3 is the first car ive driven in 55 years where the rims hit before the tires. must help with range.

@@zacharyeversole they are the biggest pain in the ass to work on comparatively to a combustion engine. Also the way the company works ties u in to spend an obscene amount of money within 2 decades of owning a tesla. Never really able to do any work on it without going to them, not to mention the battery cells will stop holding a charge properly after a few years(that’s without even taking unideal climate into consideration) so you will need to pay another 10k minimum just for ur car to keep being drivable, otherwise it rots into a write off. Also every one of those battery cells is essentially a fire bomb waiting to go off and set off the rest if it takes one solid hit. Elon has literally publicly said he doesn’t understand the value of making a car that’s fun to drive. He thinks rwd is a stupid design and doesn’t get why anyone would drive something that be prone to drifting like a 9-11, even though thats the basis of a huge part of our community. In simple terms it’s the opposite of everything we love about cars and all we hear constantly is how great they are and how everybody should get one while u feel like some conspiracy theorist trying to explain why it’s a terrible decision unless u want to completely waste close to 100k

Don’t know what you’re on about. My 2015 model s with 250000 miles hasn’t ever needed a brake job, or an oil change, or a transmission flush, or an emissions test. It’s been the most solid car I’ve ever owned, and with free supercharging for the life of the car, I’ll probably just swap the battery once it dies; but that won’t be for a while still , reporting 82% battery health. Talk to some long time owners and you’ll hear similar stories. It’s mind boggling to hear some of the arguments against them after having driven one for almost a decade now. And my car still feels more modern than some of the new cars I’ll get into nowadays.
Have a model y performance, I love the car. Doesn't mean I still can't appreciate a ICE car. Love me some noise.

The wheel protectors I'd wonder how long they are going to hold up with freeway driving, bumpy roads and so on. The bag hook, while a nice gadget, just has me thinking - why are there exposed bolts like that in a supposedly premium car?
Because the build quality is like a $20k car. I've seen $30k Subaru's better built than Teslas plastics that move under your hand pressure.
Tesla Model 3 isn't premium. It's pretty close to as bare bones as you can get in an electric car for the price.

My Mazda3 has better build quality. Body lines are perfect, body lines on my dad’s Model S aren’t great, my mom’s Model X… it’s painful. My car when new sold for like $21k. The Model S was $83k, the X was $101k. Great cars but very poorly built. On a different note, I wondered the same on the wheel protectors

The problem with the display (I have one in my Model Y) is that it blocks a crap load of your air flow from the stupid tesla vents. I need to find someone who can 3D print some air guides to fix this. Also, since the display is a touch screen I went ahead and got a yoke style wheel so you don't have to reach through the opening in the round wheel to touch the touch screen. Also, alway have been a car guy, you should see the screaming on Tesla forums saying "that will void your warranty!!!!!" every time you mention doing ANYTHING to your Tesla.
I don’t know, the fact a lot of those aftermarket parts are so good, kinda makes me feel like Tesla should have just done those to start.

Those rim protectors are actually a great idea. I mean it's best to just not hit curbs, but most Teslas I've worked on had curb rash all over.
That might be a mental issue with most tesla drivers and not knowing how to drive. Also might have been less an issue if the car didnt weigh about 1 million extra tonnes. Battery weight we get but this cars parts are so over laden with excess weight its a joke.

Jesus christ, I'm not a Tesla fan but I had no idea they were missing so many basics like a dash or HUD. I'd fully lose my mind in a car like that. As a nerd who actually drives with his hands at 10 and 2, I would also be miserable with a "steering yoke". And props to "business genius" Elon for bluntly turning down useful feature suggestions from prospective customers.
That steering yoke would drive me insane when taking corners.
You can option it with a wheel now (it's actually the default). Still no stalks though which honestly might be worse.
My contractor special, base model Ford Super Duty has a bag holder on the passenger side of the center dash, most useful little hook I've ever found in a vehicle
On Aliexpress these products can be had for a fraction of the Amazon price, if you can wait one month to receive them. The yoke only makes sense on a Cybertruck with digital proportional turnless (wheel only move 30deg to each side) steer by wire, anywhere else you will never find your turn signal buttons on the center.
By the end of this I admit the mods kinda made the Tesla look sufficient

The model 3 performance is a serious car! And more affordable than anything that can comes close to performance. Acceleration is un matched.
But being able to control the power from front wheel drive to rear and anywhere in between.
I'm on the edge of being that guy too.
Tested one last weekend and I had a blast.
I definitely don't like a lot of it's quirks tho and my wife would rip her hair out if she had to drive the thing while her car is in the shop.
I wish other manufacturers would catch up to Tesla so I can get an equivalent but with basic car functionality like interior door handles, physical HVAC controls and not needing to go through several menus to open the glove box, electronically, for no reason.
Also, the Regen braking needs physical controls to adjust.
The ioniq 5 got that, and general UI right, too bad range and fun aren't on Tesla's level.
The Tesla handles better too, go figure.

I still maintain that physical gauges are better for stuff like speed then digital ones. You can get a vague idea of your speed in your peripheral vision just by the position of the needle without having to actually read the numbers.

The speedo I can’t get behind. It’s a small version of what you have in the center. I’ve never had a problem seeing my speed or anything. Drive different ones all day. What’s weird is getting in my Camry after. Feels so gutless

@@willanderson5088 I used to drive 1000+ miles a week, and when in a different car I could easily be fooled about how fast I was going (suspension, how close to the ground, road noise, etc can really fool you). I drive a lot of rental cars, and it was amazing how different each car felt from a speed standpoint.

Plus they're working on new content and other channels, like real mechanic stuff. They built the channel up. So now they can kinda take a back seat and let all the other guys do the "grunt work" while they just keep stuff running behind the scenes and keep collecting they're check. At this point they're more like ceo's calling the shots while everyone else they've hired does more actual work. 😊
